Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Allied #5. USSR. Ground Strike.

Worth a shot, though it was a long shot, to cut this unit's defense in half from 6 to 3 and to add +2 the attack that's to take place.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Allied #5. USSR. Land Combat (2 of 4).

The "shattered" 6-4 German corps was destroyed instead as it had no valid hex to which it could retreat.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Allied #5. USSR. Land Combat (4 of 4).

Ouch ... though the Soviets lost no units, took the hex and destroyed the defender they were really looking for a breakthrough with units remaining organized.

Well, the roll against the 6-3 blocking the road to Voroznjev was disappointing indeed. You can't have everything, I believe. Even without that army being organised, the Germans are in a difficult situation in the USSR. Soviets trying to keep moving into all kind of directions the Germans don't want them too, isn't that good at all.

The result should be quite satisfying to the Soviet High Command, I believe. Stalingrad and the oil fields of the Caucasus are save now. Germany must retreat, if it can do so due to weather conditions...

Seems like Manilla is just as much a thorn in your side as it was for McCarthur. Also seems like it is time to implement Manstein's backhand blow. Good stuff as usual rkr1958!

The Germany player wasn't at all ready to hear the Soviet player complain about the low roll of 4 for that land combat. Not when the Soviet player has had so many land combat rolls by the German player go their way (i.e., low rolls on critical attacks). So the Soviet player took his medicine without saying a word remembering one golden rules, which is, "if you can't afford the worst result then don't make the attack unless the attack needs to be made out of pure desperation".

Thank you. Manstein must have been at the top of his game to convince Hitler to allow him to pull back the "southern claw" to better defensive poistions.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Germany. Italy. Western Med. Italian Coast.

German put an air unit with air to sea factors into the Western Med and Italy put a NAV, which of course has air to sea factors, into the Italian Coast. What this did was to put back in supply all axis units in Southern France, Italy, Yugoslavia and Albania who needed to trace supply through these two sea areas.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Western Allies. Italian Coast.

Of course the allies wanted to find and shot down one or both of these air units and put, at a minimum, the axis unit drawing supply through the Italian Coast.

Off the Italian Coast the axis were able to avoid combat with the allies. Now the axis needed to survive the attempt by the allies to fight in the Western Med.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Western Allies. Western Med.

The allies try but fail to make contact with the axis in the Western Med. The axis successfully keep supply flowing through the Western Med and the Italian Coast.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Japan. China.

Japan uses two of their three land moves in a combine in Southern China. They save last move for disembarking a corps/army unit to replace the one they just lost in Manila.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Japan. South China Sea.

Japan uses its two naval moves the combine to move two task forces into the South China Sea. The first task force is moved to box 0 and contains 4 CPs (prior there was none), two loaded transports (land replacement for Manila and air unit) and SCS and carrier support. The second task force is a carrier strike force composed of the Hiryu, Soryu and 2 heavy cruisers.

The Japanese could have put their two loaded transports into the China Sea and disembarked both units without any risk of "interception". However, with only two naval moves the Japanese player couldn't do that AND moved 4 CPs to the South China Sea, which currently contained none, and a carrier strike force to the four box. So the Japanese decide to risk their loaded transports and put them into the 0 box of the South China Sea with the replacement CPs and their escorts.

Of course, Japan elects for no combat in this sea area. However, Nimitz orders his fleet in that area to seek out and destroy the loaded transport carrying the IJN 6-4 motorized army. However, his forces need not only to find the Japanese but get through several layers of aircraft and ships whose sole job is to protect those loaded transports and 4 CPs operating in the 0 box.

However, before moving onto what happened in the South China Sea there's one more sea area left to deal with this impulse.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Japan. Arabian Sea.

Even with air support flow into box 0, a Japanese I-boat unit operating in the Arabian Sea is able to find and force a sub battle with the CW convoys operating there.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Japan. Arabian Sea. Submarine Battle.

Though damaged in the attack, the Japanese I-boat unit is able to clear all 4 CW CPs from the Arabian Sea by sinking 1 and forcing the other 3 to abort.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Western Allies. South China Sea.

Potentially mitigating the CW loss of 4 CPs in the Arabian Sea (only 1 was actually sunk, the other three forced to abort), the USN and RN forces make contact with the IJN carrier task force composed of the Hiryu and Soryu (i.e., 4 box).

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #7. Western Allies. South China Sea. Round 3.

The allies through they were going to get a very good shot at the loaded Japanese transports when the rolled a 1. However, the Japanese spoiled their excitement when they also rolled a 1 and was able to end the air to air battle (i.e., abort) after 1 round with no losses or any units aborted.
