I know it's still early, but any thoughts to how you will break Lobo's smaller defensive perimeter?

Anachro-

For the most part, I plan to go around El Lobo's "Meat Grinder."

On June 1, 1943 Operation Sea Shark will launch with the simultaneous invasion of each of the eight Marianas Islands. The Allies will have eight plus infantry divisions with all supporting units and tons of supply and fuel. The Allies might even send the 9th Australian Division to help; that would make it 9 plus divisions.

Once the Marianas Islands are secure, Sea Shark will head for Formosa.

Once Formosa is secure, the Allies will concentrate on getting supply to China and setting up a Naval Blockade running from the Marianas to Formosa. In the meantime, the Allies will be driving through China toward Manchukua and Korea.

In 1944, the Allies will concentrate on taking Babeldaod, Okinawa, the Bonin Islands, Manchukua, and Korea.

Of course, if circumstances permit, objectives will be taken sooner.

The basic idea is to avoid El Lobo's tight Southern Defenses, set up a Naval Blockade to strangle Japan Proper from receiving troops, aircraft, supply and resources from the South, to free the Russians, and bombard Japan Proper from Korea.

Not sure how it will all work out, but it should be interesting and fun.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Combat Report

for

October 20, 1942

El Lobo's Imperial Japanese War Mongers shoved the brave Chinese out of the forest due South of Chungking. Lack of supply makes it impossible to counter-attack. The final days of Chungking are upon on us. The Chinese have held out longer than I had expected they could with little supply and against an overwhelming experienced army hell bent on conquering all of China. If the Chinese can hold Chungking until December 6, 1942, I will be immensely pleased.

Combat Report

for

October 23, 1942

The majority of the combat today centered around El Lobo's continuing invasion of Adak Island. The Japanese are taking a beating from Adak Island Coastal Guns. El Lobo is in the process of landing his 3rd Infantry Division. Consequently, unless Adak Island is sent reinforcements, Adak Island will fall into Japanese hands. Though it hurts to lose so many good ground forces at Adak Island, I doubt reinforcements will be sent considering El Lobo's Carriers and Surface Combat Fleets are protecting the Japanese amphibious assaults.

What is our latest staff estimate on enemy defenses and strength in Meiktila, etc.? Tactical and strategic objectives? Are you thinking of the operation as schwerpunkt to achieve breakthrough?

Anachro-

Japanese Defenses and Strength in Burma

The most recent intelligence indicates that the following Japanese ground forces are at the following Burma bases:

Lashio: 114th Infantry Regiment
Shwebo: 4th Guards Division
Magwe: 1st Air Army
Ramree Island: 19th Infantry Division
Rangoon: 21st and 56th Infantry Divisions
Moulmein: 55th Calvary Regiment

I suspect that El Lobo has more ground forces in Burma than is set forth immediately above.

Burma Goals

The initial goals for Burma are as follows:

1.) Trap and destroy as many Japanese as possible.

2.) Secure the following bases: Akyab (already secured); Ramree Island, Prome; Bassein; Rangoon; Pegu; Toungoo; Kalemyo (already secured); Katha; Warazup; Myitiyina; Bhamo; Lashio; Shwebo; Mandalay; Magwe; Meiktila; and Taung Gyi.

Initial Thrust

The Allies will attempt to trap Japanese ground forces by moving as quickly as possible to capture Ramree Island; Prome; Rangoon; and Lashio.

The goal is to prevent the Japanese from retreating to China, IndoChina, the Burma Peninsula, or by sea.

Allied Main Spearhead

The Allied main spearhead will be led by General Douglas MacArthur marching with the Americal Division to capture Meiktila.

The Americal Division will be supported by 2 Base Forces; 1 Combat Engineer; 4 Tank Battalions; 3 Tank Destroyer Battalions; 2 AA Regiments; and numerous Artillery Regiments and Battalions.

Present Location of Operation Land Shark Ground Forces and Their Objectives

The following Allied ground forces are either at their individual objective or are presently marching toward their individual objective:

ABDA forces are at Akyab and will remain at Akyab.

The Eastern Army is at Akyab marching to Ramree Island.

III India Corps is at Chittagong marching to Prome.

1/2 of Burma Corps is between Chittagong and Cox's Bazar marching to Bassein.

1/2 of I Australia Corps is at Chittagong marching to Rangoon.

1/2 of I Australia Corps is at Chittagong marching to Pegu.

1/2 of Burma Corps is between Chittagong and Cox's Bazar marching to Toungoo.

The 159th (SEP) Infantry Regiment; 138th BF; 205th Coastal AA Regiment; and 206th Coastal AA Regiment are at Kalemyo and will remain at Kalemyo.

The 87th Mountain Regiment is at Kohima marching to Katha.

Warazup: Not sure how I will garrison Warazup as all infantry units are sorely needed elsewhere.

The 24th Infantry Division is one hex south of Jorhat marching to Myityina.

The Chindit Group is at Dimapur marching to Bhamo.

The 25th Infantry Division is one hex south of Ledo marching to Lashio.

The 27th Infantry Division is at Dimapur marching to Shwebo.

The 32nd Infantry Division is at Imphal marching to Mandalay.

The 40th Infantry Division is one hex north of Kalemyo marching to Magwe.

The Americal Division is at Kalemyo marching to Meiktila.

The 41st Infantry Division is at Silchar marching to Taung Gyi.

Each of the above individual combat groups are supported with BFs and AA units. Most all of the above individual combat groups are supported with Headquarter units; armor units, and artillery units. The combat group at Akyab; marching to Ramree Island and Rangoon also each have a CD unit.

A map of Burma is below.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Battle for Adak Island

And

Questions for The War College

October 27, 1942

Gentlemen of The War College-

Question Number One: The Wasp is short 12 F4F-4 Wildcats. I can buy them from Restricted F4F-4 Wildcats located at Pearl Harbor. My question is whether it matters which Command I buy them out? Pacific Ocean Command alright?

Question Number Two: The CVEs Altamaha; Prince William, and Nassau have too many aircraft on them. It is best to fly off the excess to somewhere, right?

The Battle for Adak Island

Below is a map of most of the Aleutian Islands. The Japanese Carriers are the furthest South red ships.

At this time, I have decided not to reinforce Adak Island. El Lobo's carriers would most likely destroy any attempt by the Allies to land more ground forces at Adak Island.

However, the Allies have recently slipped into dutch Harbor to land an Infantry Regiment and a Calvary Regiment. A Marine Defense Battalion is just 240 miles East of Dutch Harbor and should begin to unload at Dutch Harbor on October 28, 1942. This will bring Dutch Harbor's AV close to 400.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Question 1: I'm extremely familiar, but do you mean adding another flight group to fill up the carrier to its full 90 capacity? Can you not manually resize the airgroup already existing?

Question 2:Maybe send the excess back to the pool to be used elsewhere. Or perhaps as aircraft replenishment for your main carriers.

Anachro-

Thank you for responding.

As to question 1, after looking at the Wasp aircraft capacity, I can just fly two aircraft to a squadron to fully fill the total aircraft capacity of the Wasp at 78 aircraft.

As to question 2, I like the idea of having lots of aircraft replensihments. Accordingly, I will fly the aircraft off the carriers at Pearl.

By the way, the 115th USAAF Base Force is almost fully unloaded at Rabaul.

Best Regards,

-Terry

pontiouspilot-

I don't know what OOB is. However, El Lobo doesn't have any Japanese at Attu.

The Allied status at Attu is as follows:

Port: 3
Airfield Capacity: 1
Fortifications: 4 (57%)
Supply: 21,195
Ground Forces: (please see illustration below)

Best Regards,

-Terry

Anachro-

Well, your questions led my thinking in a certain direction to fill-out the low squadron on the Wasp and to flying off the excess aircraft to keep in reserve for carrier aircraft replenishment.

The end result: You helped! Thank you.

Best Regards,
-Terry

Presently, the major areas of contention center around Adak Island, Chungking, and Colombo.

The Allies continue to feed Pearl Harbor with supply, fuel, aircraft and ground forces in anticipation of the launch of Operation Sea Shark on June 1, 1943.

Strategic Map is below.
