*An unusually sheepish Captain Haggard gives his report*

Gudgeon I can explain as being in the proper station but overwhelmed with surface muscle.

The others are my fault. I tried to fill-up in Adak, which currently boasts plenty of fuel but also plenty of Japanese troops. It was supposed to be an overnight in-and-out, but his surface forces doubled-back.

Lesson: I'm through getting cheap gas. I didn't even get to swipe my card at the pump before he jumped me.

QUESTION FOR THE WAR COLLEGE: 6.6.1.2.1 Minefield Decay, states "The number of mines in a minefield in deep water decays by 33% per day, in shallow water by 5% per day... [etc.]"

Now that means, on average your deep water field lasts 3 days, and your shallow approximately 20 days, right?

Why is it, then, in regards to my sub-lain fields, the deep water is lasting as long as the shallow and the shallow only lasted 4-5 days?

I might mention that the deep water sub-layer is puny Dolphin, and the shallow sub-layers much bigger (019, 020, Narwhal, Nautilus), so size of minefields should not be an issue.

Thank you for any insight.

Regards,

Hag

It isn't 33% of the starting total on each subsequent turn, but 33% of the amount at the start of each turn. So if you laid 100 mines in deep water, next turn there would be 67, and the turn aft that (67 - 33%) = 45 and the turn after that (45-33%) = 30 ...and so on.

Allied Ground Forces in Burma

as of November 3, 1942

Approximately fifty percent (50%) of the Allied ground forces presently earmarked for Burma are swatting flies and cutting through jungle as they march to their individual objectives in Burma.

Approximately forty-five percent (45%) of the Allied ground forces presently earmarked for Burma are ten (10) days or less from crossing the India border into Burma.

The other five percent (5%) of the Allied ground forces presently earmarked for Burma are drinking beer either at Perth, Cape Town, or on a transport bound for India.

Later tonight or tomorrow, an update will be provided to The War College regarding Allied aircraft in India that will support the invasion of Burma.

Ah, good. That makes more sense.

The only reason I can think that my shallow minefields disappeared so rapidly was they were swept. Maybe prompted by something hitting them...?

(Insight into the submariner's mind-set, LOL)

Thanks, BB!

Combat Report

for

November 11, 1942

It seems strange that El Lobo has three infantry divisions plus at Colombo and he hasn't attacked for at least three weeks. El Lobo also has three plus infantry divisions on Adak Island and he hasn't attacked once since landing. The Allies have 283 AV, a level 3 fort, and 32,000 supply at Colombo. The Allies have 179 AV, a level 4 fort, and over 80,000 supply at Adak Island.

The Allies win the air combat today.

The Allies bombarded the Japanese at Adak Island resulting in zero casualties.

No other Combat Action today.

Japanese Ground Forces
In Burma
As of November 13, 1942

Allied Intelligence Reports indicate that the following Japanese Ground Forces are in Burma at the following bases.

There are two Japanese units one hex NE of Ramree Island and five Japanese units two hexes NE of Ramree Island. I am not sure if these seven units are in addition to the units set forth below or whether they are simply units that have moved from the bases set forth below.

I suspect that once the Allies begin attacking bases, the Allies will find that El Lobo has more
Japanese Ground Forces in Burma than I am presently aware.

114th Infantry Rgt.
94th JAAF Bn.
50th Field AA Bn.

Shwebo

4th Guards Division

If your intelligence is correct, then I'd be thinking about an amphibious assault on Moulmein and Pegu (depending on the defenders present in Pegu). A complete flanking of his forward defense beats the hell out of marching and fighting through the jungle and forcing a river crossing.

poodlebrain-

I am not sure how accurate my Intelligence Reports are.

I have considered amphibious assaults at Pegu; Moulmeim; and other locations.

However, El Lobo owns the Bay of Bengal. He has Carrier and Combat Surface Fleets in the Bay. Any Allied attempt to amphibious assault Burma would no doubt be crushed at sea.

For now, though the Allies may face stubborn Japanese resistance in Burma, the invasion of Burma will be by land only.

-Terry
