First, let me apologize for seeming harsh. That was not my intent. I had no complaints about your deployment of defenders in anticipation of the invasion. I would have done much the same. It is only with hindsight that I realized the problems with such deployment. I should have done a better job of trying to communicate that an active defense would likely have been preferable to waiting.

I plead guilty to sacrificing clarity for brevity. I hope you will take some unsolicited advice. Keep the pressure on constantly. His units will wear out before yours.

Absolutely no need to apologize.

There was nothing harsh about your post and I hope there wasn´t in my reply.

I went back and started fortification construction in San Diego after seeing this,

The strategic reserve was good preparation as well.

I always built forts at SD, LA and SF on turn 1. Not on this scale though and I never leave extra engineers for it. Glad I did this time though!

Joc-

I think you are doing an awesome job!

You have been under intense pressure from day one and have countered with sound moves every step.

I agree with Crackaces, the Japanese must be using up a heap of fuel and supply. The Japanese will pay for their over-aggressive Imperialist expansion in 1945.

Hang in there, Joc!

Run that War Monger into the sea.

Jocke I agree that you are doing an amazing job here. Your prep and awareness of each step along the way is remarkable, especially the prescient move to send troops into LA early. That is the base you could not afford to lose.

I do disagree with Crackaces and Rio Bravo that this is an overextension for Japan IF, and this is a big if, he can take SD. Ruining that aircraft production and gaining any troop VPs plus the possible leftover fuel would essentially pay for the operation.

What kind of fuel/oil is in SD now?

That is a good point. San Diego might have 1,000,000+ fuel.

Fuel should be accumulating at L.A. and S.F. rather than S.D. L.A. because of production and S.F. because of command HQ. S.D. should only have been drawing for its needs. I'll be shocked if there are large stocks sitting there.

It depends how much shipping you have assigned as home port at each base.

And 250k to Japan is like another 75 oil production site for an entire year. That assumes it could be used or hauled back of course.

Yeah, 1,000,000 fuel would be HUGE, but the ability to get that much out would be unlikely too.

I guess he could set up a convoy system to Hawaii which would be what, a two week turnaround for fast tankers? So say 2 TFs of 10 x 12k capacity, 18knot TK/AO (if he has that many available). It's 61 hexes to PH. So at 240k per month he'd need four months to get it out. Or a LOT of tankers. Losses from sub activity would also make a dent, but still, it's a good opportunity for Japan here.

It would be quite useful if it only got back as far as PH.

Even a quarter of it would be good. Fleet ops, not production. And as the Inuit (supposedly) say, "The best place to carry food is in your belly." He could run his fleet around SoCal for a long time with what SD offers. Seal the Balboa wormhole for sure.

One of the B-24 assembly plants in San Diego in 1942. Huge buildings and still there.

I fear there might be jumping of some description if he was aware you only had 50k supplies there! Notwithstanding that there's some industry, that doesn't seem like an awful lot - you're certainly on a timetable to lift the siege...

Invasion Day 6
_____________________________________________________________________________

Got the replay but no turn!

Basically the remnant of the PT boat fleet was annihilated during the turn. Japanese bombard LA heavily but to no avail. I´ll not declare this a victory yet but things do look grim for the Japanese.

Their should be ready to attack in 2 days. Hopefully they will tip the balance.

It is interesting that the armor is at LA and is not in the SD attack. That is to your benefit.

A suggestion, if you have combat engineers available, airlift them to SD to both defend and help rebuild any lost fortifications.

Very much so. And looking at the losses his tanks took a beating. Then again it could all be motorized support.

Sadly all the combat engineers are in SOPAC...good idea though.

First attack at Chungking. Can´t complain. I think Jeff closed the last hexside hence the shock attack.

Good news is that he didn´t lower the forts. Bad thing is that it doesn´t look good for the Chinese. I think I have a month here. Maybe two.

Much of the Chinese army have already escaped into the mountains though. They will be paramount in the recapture of China.
