[b]JA40. Initiative.

Both sides wanted to move first. The allies won the first roll, the axis requested a re-roll, the allies won the second roll too and elected to move first.

As I emailed Pat, I need some time to think about my move and don't plan to start my impulse until tomorrow evening.

JA40. Offer to Extend of Japanese-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact.

To: Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov, Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars and People's Commissar of Foreign Affairs of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

From: Yosuke Matsuoka, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jusanmin, Cavalier of the Order of the Sacred Treasure of the First Class

Re: Extension of Japanese-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact

I'm opening discussions on an extension of the JP/RU treaty. If we can conclude to continue the same agreement now, I'll agree to a 2 year extension (through J/A 42), if we wait through the end of this turn, I'll only extend it through J/A 41.

JA40. Clarification on Offer to Extend.

Interesting offer. It sounds like I have until before this turn ends before I have to give my answer? Well, before this turn ends to get the two year deal?

Re: Offer to Extend Out Mutual Non-Aggression Pact.

Comrade Stalin agrees to the 2-year extension with the stipulation that the Soviet Union is free to attack any other power at any time during the period of the extension. And with the additional stipulation that Japan would not intervene in any country attacked by the Soviet Union during this time.

Re: Offer to Extend Out Mutual Non-Aggression Pact.

Your conditions seem fair and should be applied to both powers not just the Soviet Union. So, Japan can also attack any other power at any time during the 2-year extension and the Soviet Union will not intervene in any country attacked by Japan.

Is this further addition acceptable?

Sincerely,

Pat,
Administrative Secretary for Yosuke Matsuoka

Comrade Stalin agrees to the offer. Considered it signed and in effect from Sep/Oct 1940 through Jul/Aug 1942.

Of course, Comrade Stalin recognizes that the terms and conditions of our current non-aggression pact will remain in effect until the end of this turn (Jul/Aug 1940). After which the terms and conditions of our modified pact takes effect.

Sincerely, Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov, Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars and People's Commissar of Foreign Affairs of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

A second signing of a non-aggression pact between the USSR and the Empire of Japan. Looks remarkable similar to the first signing doesn't it.

JA40. Allied #1. China.

Post movement, no air or land combat.

Mao is not very happy with his communist ally, Comrade Stalin who just agreed to a 2-year extension to the USSR-Japan non-aggression pact. But such is the world of politics and war.

JA40. Allied #1. Antwerp.

I'm learning ... we're playing with limited oversea supply. I returned all TRSs in the North Sea at the end of last turn and without any CPs at sea there this put my forces in Antwerp out of supply. This move prevent me from reorganizing the fighter unit there.

Here are the results of one Strat Bombing and 5 ground strikes. Better than my normal. Hope my attack rolls are as high as the 4 die rolls in the second ground strike (artillery all missed).

Here are the results of the 3 attacks (nothing for the allies to do in any of them - I assumed the Chinese would choose assault in Kunming). I did roll another 3 on a +16 attack (the weakest of the three attacks). The net will be on ART will not be reorganized and the FR units are shattered not destroyed.

Here is the situation in Europe. I did use Rundstedt and Von Bock to reorganize, so all of the land units (including both ART) and two Stuka's were reorganized.

And here is the situation in China. It is now time for the southern army to turn North. No need to worry about closing the Burma road via politics. Now, if I could just strat bomb the saved oil that is deep in China :-).

That Nell is the most dangerous unit the Chinese face...until/if/when the Sallys come along.

Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #3. Soviet Deescalation of Manchuria Theater.

due to the Soviet-Japanese non-aggression pact enforce until the end of Jul-Aug 1942 (i.e., 2 years from now).

With only 1 rail per impulse it's going to take the Soviets a while to move their units in Asia to more important theaters but they will.

Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #3. RAF, France. Ground Strike.

The RAF puts maximum effort into slowing down the spearhead of the Nazi breakthrough in France. The results are mixed. Better than missing both units but not as good as getting them both.

Note: The RAF ground strike was out of the intercept range of all axis fighter units.
