I started 1800 scenario, gave Egypt to Russia as a bribe, and all my soldiers happily floated back to France. (so far, so good)

When I finally went to war with Russia, I marched my waiting army from Syria to Egypt, used a card to turn it blue for France as a new minor territory and everything was fine... UNTIL I used the Tilsit treaty card!

After whipping up on Russia, I then used the Tilsit card and Egypt reverts back to OTTOMAN OWNERSHIP?, and my troops are sent flying back to Italy with Ottoman Empire becoming active? At this point, I attempted to declare war on Ottoman Empire via card, but there was a message saying there are no available countries with which are allowed to declare war. Ottoman is no longer a friendly neutral at this point.

Once I defeated Ottoman and made them a friendly neutral and Russia was also made a friendly neutral, Egypt SHOULD have remained owned by France as this was the last valid owner and occupier of this minor territory.

Seems like a bug or an oversight, despite the description on the card:

"Treaty of Tilsit (x1)
May be played if Russia has lost a major battle within the last
3 turns where they had 7 or more units eliminated. Russia
becomes a friendly neutral to France and has their diplomatic
rating set to 8. The Grand Duchy of Warsaw becomes French
owned if it wasn’t already. Any foreign troops in their territory
are removed and placed in the closest region owned by that side."

Latest version 1.0.1.

MORE: According to the manual, the above behavior is a software defect.

"The Ottoman Empire
The Ottoman Empire does not have a Diplomatic Rating
and does not go to war like other Major Nations. In the 1800
scenario, it starts at war with France, and becomes neutral if
Austria is defeated by France. France can declare war on the
Ottoman Empire by landing troops in Egypt (triggers war
immediately), or by using a ‘France Declares War’ event card.
France may also play the ‘Ottoman Empire Declares War on
Russia’ card, in which case The Ottoman Empire and her
troops are French allies and controlled by the player.
These are the only ways that The Ottoman Empire can go to
war. If they are defeated by having their capital captured, they
immediately become a friendly neutral of whomever defeated
them and remain that way for the remainder of the game.

I am looking at this. It does seem that there is an error here. Also, we made a number of late changes to the diplomatic rules especially in regards to the Ottoman Empire and the manual may need some clarification or addendum in this area.

When the Treaty of Tilsit is played the Ottomans should get their possessions back but that should only happen if the Ottomans are an active ally of France, not a friendly neutral. I assume that when you played the Treaty of Tilsit card the Ottoman Empire was a friendly neutral of France?

There is en error in the game in that case. I also see that there is a problem with the way Turkey's neutrality is being reestablished in this case, and that is why you couldn't use the France Declares War card. Turkey should not have become neutral, but should have remained a friendly neutral. I have marked these for correction.

I am not sure that Glenn intended to allow Egypt to be used as a bribe, to be honest. That may get changed, too!

Correct. I knocked out Austria with Napoleon early, then marched on Constantinople since the Ottomans were still not happy I gave away Egypt as a freebie to Russia, so they never made peace at Austria's demise. A 20-unit balanced army with a minor general was then marched to Syria through the Ottoman capital, now permanently friendly-neutral, and awaited patiently for the correct moment of war with Russia.

Hey, don't take away making Egypt a bribe! First, the French meager forces in Egypt are too small to defend against the British who take it the next turn by force. Those French forces are useful to combine to deal with the Austrians on turn one. My thanks to the free air-tranport back home! Plus, it also prevents the temptation to use the India card, which becomes useless when the French army in Egypt is too small to hold out against any British invasion. The political improvement is a plus also to delay war with Russia until France is ready.
