Oh well, each to their own .

Your taste for ABBA I can understand...Barry Manilow is in a different category.

It's not unusual.

Oh wait-that's Tom Jones.

Tom Jones...now there is a voice...at 76 he still has it!

I feel a little guilty for maligning Barry Manilow in the Bermuda Triangle thread (although that particular track is toilet). So to make up for it, here are three of Mr Manilow's top toons:

No, Orm. No one said "ABBA". I don't think anyone's said "ABBA" since 1978.

As a result of the posts above I thought I would listen to a few ABBA classics. The next band in chronological order in my library is ABC.

So I kept the music going and it was great to hear these guys again. Here is a really rather beautiful toon

S.O.S - ABC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-DJOF8W8ZA

By coincidence one of ABBA's finest toons was also called SOS.

I realised this morning that I have not got an ABBA playlist on my Ipod. I know roight?

Anyway, I intend to rectify that glaring omission by selecting 10-12 tracks. From comments recently I know that this will be an eagerly anticipated event so stay tuned as I count down the official bestest ABBA tracks of all time

Edit: Yeah right. 10-12? Impossible to whittle down less than 20.

So here we go with the countdown. Stay tuned and don't get too excited

No.20 I do, I do, I do, I do, I do (1975) UK Singles chart highest position No.38

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW3HN_pvbE4

Nice sax. A fun, rousing song that beautifully show cases the girls incredible voices - unmistakeably early ABBA but their second best toon from that time.

Choosing an order for these wonderful tunes is just impossible. I will keep in the order I first chose, but suspect some of these are misplaced. This next toon is a case in point. Even the brilliant Steve Coogan cannot ruin this song for me.... A-ha!!!

No.19 Knowing Me, Knowing You (1977) UK Singles chart highest position No.1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUrzicaiRLU

One of only two tracks that made it from the album Arrival. A bittersweet track - there are one or two of those coming up. Great lyrics. And Frida looked nice here too

The next track is the second and last offering from Arrival.

No.18 My Love, My Life (1976) UK Singles chart highest position No. Not a single?

Sadly this track is blocked on You Tube

Sung by Agnetha, this beautiful record is sad as heck.....

As I don't want to disappoint all you ABBA fans out there I will instead attach the track that just failed to make the 20. From the same album its:

Dum, Dum Diddle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PLf7cP2bkM

EDIT: Please see post 4543 for My Love, My Life

The next track is the first from The Visitors.

No.17 Slipping Through My Fingers (1981) - not a single in the UK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PilSlKzhYn4

As a parent I can really identify with this song. It's about your child growing up. Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful.

My second track from the Visitors comes next.

No.16 One of Us UK Singles chart highest position No.3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIKAe8Wi0S0

Another track with Agnetha as lead, but their voices worked so beautifully together it is sometimes difficult to tell. And its another sad story of love gone wrong.

My first Super Trouper offering is up next. On reflection worthy of the 20 but possibly at 19 or 20.

No.15 Happy New Year UK Singles chart highest position - not a single in the UK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Uo0JAUWijM

Don't get me wrong this is still a quality song but probably got its place in the 20 more for sentimental reasons. To sing about what will happen in 10 years i.e. 1989 is a bit sobering to us oldies....

The next track is the title track from The Visitors.

No.14 The Visitors (1982) UK Singles chart highest positon - not a UK single

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1hK8CWlYcA

Were ABBA getting political with this one? No one knows - the band aren't saying but it was banned in the USSR.....

ABBA The Album has four entries - and the first appears at no.13. The singles chart position is a strange one - but the reason why it probably didn't achieve No.1 is that it was only released in 1983....

No.13 Thank-you for the Music (1977) - UK Singles chart highest position No.33

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dcbw4IEY5w

I'm nothing special,
in fact I'm a bit of a bore

Er... I don't think so Agnetha

A second Super Trouper offering.

No.12 Lay all your love on me (1981) UK Singles chart highest position No.7 (12-inch)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNVzitkT7gM

This is the first really upbeat, dancey type number (more of those to come).

It's Super Trouper again for the next one.

No.11 Me and I UK Singles Chart highest position - not released as a single

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTQ5kxuZ-Bg

Another departure for the Swedish maestros with a sort of synthpop sound. Frida takes control of the singing for this one.

I suspect that most of you are on the edge of your seats wondering what this officialist of official lists will confirm. What are the top 10 bestest ABBA songs of all time?

Well be prepared for one or two shocks. But I can confirm we have:

3 tracks from Voulez-vous
3 tracks from The Album
2 tracks from Super Trouper
1 track from The Visitors
and 1 track from the self-styled ABBA album.

I trust you can contain yourselves.....

The album Voulez Vous provides the first of the top 10.

No.10 As Good As New (1979) UK Singles chart highest position - not released as a single in the UK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxv2vF9S0bY

This is the second track included, at least in part, for sentimental reasons. This song always takes me back to a more simple time - playing Waterloo with Airfix HO/OO figures with my big bruvver. The song is an upbeat number with a good bass line and I love the 'string' sound that starts the track off.

The next track appears on recent versions of Voulez Vous (although I don't think it was originally on that album) is another that Steve Coogan cannot spoil for me - even though hearing it invariably puts me in mind of Alan Partridge singing it!

No.9 Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A man after Midnight) (1979) UK Singles chart highest position No.3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEjLoHdbVeE

Another Agnetha led song and a bouncy fast paced synth based piece of pop with another great into.
