Italy

Via decision event Italy has agreed to ship military equipment to Spain, obviously I still have hope that Spain will join the Axis.

North Africa

Fighting has broke out in Egypt, and looks to be a dog fight to gain ground for both sides. At turns end Italy received Infantry Weapons I which may turn the tide.

Germany

The French have surrendered! Although we have installed Vichy France, the UK has rather decided to recognize the Free French.

At this critical turn I must begin to focus on building up for war with the USSR. Franco is dangerously close to joining the Axis after the fall of France and will be a priority to bring into the Axis Camp after significant investments since the beginning of the campaign (Supply shipments, Military Equipment, Diplomacy and the arrival of Wolfram mine engineers). WIth the plunder of France I have purchased 3 HQ and 3 Tank Groups.

Italy
Our primary focus with Italy is the war with Egypt. I would rather not direct any German forces other then the future Afrika Korps to Egypt. Italy will have to fight out the remainder of 1940 alone.

Not too much to report. East of Tobruk both Italian and Commonwealth forces are inflicting heavy damage on each other. The Allies were able to destroy an Italian Corps, while in turn the Italians Destroy an UK Army. Air support from the Carrier stationed in Alexandria has made use of Italian Air almost absolutely too expensive to eat the losses. I have decided to commit a German fighter group, which is currently en route though Italy.

German has decided to built a U-Boat based off the Atlantic Coast of France. I have submarines in Que that I have been waiting to launch from the proposed base.

Allied Turn August 1940

The UK has taken interest in Swiss diplomacy. This is rather an annoyance as I have opted on Turn 1 of the game to store our plundered gold reserves in the Swiss bank system. I do not want Switzerland to fall within the Allied sphere of influence.

Italy on this turn was asked where to deploy the remainder of her submarine fleet. I decided Italy would be best served answering Germany's call to participate in the war of the Atlantic. In Italy further skirmishes continue in Egypt, neither side has gained an upper hand. Germany continues to shuffle forces East and purchasing garrison for France and air Units for the long war ahead.

The Balkans

Germany was granted the opportunity to settle a number of territorial disputes in the Balkans this turn. First, Germany chose not to intervene in territorial disputes involving Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria which resulted in Romania joining the Axis. Second, due to Greece's Axis leaning, Germany was presented an opportunity to sway Greece to sign the Tripartite Pact and join the Axis. This has seemingly upset Bulgaria beyond repair, as Bulgaria now leans 66% towards the Allies and has signed a defensive Pact with USSR albeit guaranteeing her protection from Axis invasion, at least for now. Italian morale has also been largely effected, and now more then ever I must protect her National Morale objectives with garrisons. (I Admit there was one error here where some Albanian territory did not transfer to Greek control, which I have already fixed on my end going forward.)

Another Italian Corps is Destroyed. The Allied forces in Egypt are on the verge of pushing the Italians back towards Tobruk as our front line begins to thin. Reinforcements have sailed to Tripoli and are walking the desert while the Italian 5th Army is marching from El Agheila.

Mediterranean

This turn the Allied Armour surprised and outflanked the Italian front line and destroyed the only Italian fighter group stationed in North Africa. Rather then risk the Tank formation attempting to cut off our supply route to Tobruk I have pulled back my forces to regroup at Tobruk. The German fighter squadron has finally arrived just in time to replace the Italian fighters. I also receive a first this game - Malta effects Med. Supply.

Europe

- Some garrison units are dispatched to the French coast.
- Italian submarine sail into the Atlantic from Bordeaux.
- Build up begins along the Russian borders
- Since the fall of France I have purchased the following units which remain in que: 3 German Tanks, 1 Romanian Tank, 3 HQ's, 3 Mobile Infantry, 1 Fighter, 1 Tac Bomber, 1 Strat. Bomber
- Germany finalizes trade agreements with Switzerland
- Germany develops Infantry Weapons II

Atlantic

I have so far thwarted most attempts of the Allies to detect my raiders and business continues as usual

North Africa

The Gariboldi HQ retreats into Tobruk as the Italian 1st and 10th Armies hold at Bardia just East of Tobruk. Our mobile forces have pulled back in retreat as supply was weakened and full reinforcement impossible. German reinforcements (and their Infanty Weapons II) are desperately needed.

Spain
German was faced with some tough decision events regarding Spain. The first was a decision to export Military Equipment to Spain at a rather high cost. However, if Spain Joins the Axis the costs are basically recouped. I am confident that I can continue to sway Spain towards the Axis so I select "Yes".

Details to the above event which can help explain my reasoning to select yes.

The second event which would occur irregardless of my decision to the first, is a direct result of my investment into Spain's wolfram mines, presented earlier in the game.

This even was particularly tough as it has pretty much undone any and all diplomatic gains I have received from the first of the two events. I selected "Yes" just in case I can not entice Spain to Join I will really miss these MPP and will receive nothing for all my efforts.

Atlantic

North of Newfoundland UK destroyers have ambushed a German submarine group damaging the unit down to 6 strength. I fear I may lose the unit next turn if other Allied fleets are near.

Mediterranean

The Italian 1st Army was destroyed at Bardia. The UK and Commonwealth are clearly on the offensive and winning as I lose units each turn.

The Italians are in full retreat. Still no help arrives from Germany, as it is all hands on deck for war with USSR which is nearing. There is not even enough breathing room to upgrade our infantry weapons.

Yugoslavia has joined the Axis alliance! Surrounded by pro-Axis nations, including Greece the UK was not able to have the opportunity to support a Coup. The Turkish government has expressed deep concern towards the Balkan Alliance, presumably in fear of war breaking out with Bulgaria. As a result Turkey has swung 30% towards the Allies.

1940 - Reflection

France

Since the fall of France, the Western Front has been very quiet. I have stationed garrisons to protect from pesky Allied coastal raiders. I have had experience with some random mini-invasions of a UK corps at inopportune times so I decided the best course of action was to garrison the coast now to avoid this. Having garrisons on hand is also very valuable to operate to the Eastern Front in a pinch.

The Atlantic

Germany currently has 6 Submarine Groups, 2 Battle Cruisers and 1 Heavy Cruiser flag raiding in the Atlantic, as well Italy has committed a submarine group. Collectively the Axis has sunk 17.3% of total UK convoy income. We have yet to encounter a formidable submarine hunting naval force, and have yet to lose a unit in the Atlantic.

1940 - Reflection

North Africa

The UK has just captured Tobruk, destroying the Italian 10th army. Luckily, the Afrika Corps has finally arrived and appears to have stabilized a defensive line and perhaps even enough to steal the initiative in this region. The loss of Tobruk, coupled with slumping Italian morale from concessions to Greece has national morale hovering at 50%. It is imperative that I do not allow further gains to the Allies in this region if I want to keep Italian Morale from sinking to war exiting levels. The Italian Navy will should soon make an appearance as well after remaining at port since the onset of the war.

1940 - Reflection

The Balkans

With Romania, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Greece all signing the Tripartite Pact there is no reason to delay war with the USSR. This was possible due to Axis pressure and concession intervention. This has definitely benefited Germany but Italian Morale has suffered due to her ambitions against Greece. Bulgaria has signed a defensive pact with the USSR and while the country will likely not join the war if USSR is attacked, Stalin has promised to protect Bulgaria from invasion. Turkey has since leaned towards the Allies due to concerns of an Axis invasion against neighboring Bulgaria.

Yugoslavian troops are heading North to support Army Group central, while Hungarian and Romanian troops are directly towards their national borders with USSR. Greece troops have yet to march and ultimately will likely find themselves dispatched to the Mediterranean after A) Priority USSR preparations are completed and B) the Italian Navy can escort a mass passage.

Non-Belligerents

A large portion of German income is now being collected from non-belligerent, Axis leaning nations including Spain, Switzerland, Vichy France, Norway and Sweden. Spain remains 75% Axis leaning, and now with less pressure on the Italians perhaps Italy can invest in diplomacy chits to help lean Spain the final amount necessary to bring her into war.

Germany

All eyes are now on the Eastern Front and war with USSR. I have focused on mobile units for an ultra fast advance. I have achieved Tanks Level II, Infantry Level II, Advanced Aircraft Level II, and near Ground Attack Weapons Level II to support the invasion. In early 1941 I will have to focus on upgrading units, and afterwards turn my attention back to Research was has been very neglected since the surrender of France.

The Atlantic

A troop transport (UK Corps) was sunk West of Portugal I assume on route to Alexandria.

North Africa
Intense Fighting West of Tobruk. UK Armour destroys an Italian Corps, in turn the Armour is destroyed by the Afrika Krops Tank Group. Bad Weather grounds Axis air forces.

Eastern Front
Snowy weather continues, the combined Axis forces are still reinforcing, upgrading weapons and moving into invasion positions. Germany launches the light cruiser Lutzow which was denied to Stalin via decision event earlier in the game.

Oil
Now that Germany is in control of the Ploesti oil fields they have agreed to divert 15 MPP of oil to Italy per turn as long as they control the oilfields.

North Africa

The Italian 5th Army and a UK corps is destroyed as heavy fighting continues.

Turkey

The UK has begun shipping military equipment to Turkey, which in turn has leaned Turkey slightly closer to the Allies.

Ireland

The UK has occupied more ports in Ireland, this time Limerick.

Greece

UK Bombers from North Africa have leveled the city to supply 0 (back to 1 on my turn).

Greenland becomes a US Protectorate.

More attrition warfare.

Upgrading is proving very expensive and costing me precious time.

The Allies capture the settlement of Mekili, destroying the Italian Armour formation. Italian HQ is in a bad position, and we are struggling to send Italian reinforcements. After Germany can spare a single MPP I may send Greek troops to help the deteriorating situation.
