December 12 at Zhukovsky flew preproduction MiG-35
http://djoker-lj.livejournal.com/271446.html

Looks like a regular MiG-29K to me?

Yes, he really is like ha MiG-29K, but there is no landing hook, and an infrared detection system (near the main landing gear).
And writing on board the Russian Air Force

Well, I'll be damned:

U.S. Navy Announces Need for 355-ship with More CVN, DDG, SSN, Amphibs & Auxiliary Vessels
The U.S. Secretary of the Navy announced the results of the 2016 Force Structure Assessment (FSA), a year-long effort which began in January that was conducted to evaluate long-term defense security requirements for future naval forces today at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.

The new fleet goal calls for 1 more aircraft carrier, 16 more large surface combatant, 18 more attack submarines, 4 more amphibious warfare ships, 3 more expeditionary support bases and 5 more support ships. The number of LCS (including the Frigate variant) and aircraft appears to remain unchanged (despite calls in the US Navy to reduce the number of LCS and procure more Super Hornet fighters).

The 2016 FSA recommends a 355-ship fleet including 12 carriers, 104 large surface combatants, 52 small surface combatants, 38 amphibious ships, and 66 submarines. The assessment will be one input to the Navy's FY-2018 30-year shipbuilding plan. The current proposed Navy budget is seen as a bridge to this larger Navy, with shipbuilding on an upward glide slope towards 308 ships.
Any chance of an intelligence fallout because of that? Acoustic data/sonar specs?

Technology wise, UUV gliders arent anything new for China, though.

Kinda a funfact;

it seems that the "SHOOT IT" and "Shoot Them!!" helmet writing on those J-15 drivers are a homage to the VFA-27 video "Shoot 'Em If You Got 'Em" released in 2014.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnsxWrPUHN8

It seems that the PLAN has watched this video and widely circulated it amongs its pilots and carrier-personell, making it kinda a "goal to be strived for" for the fledgeling PLAN Carrier Aviators. This is in line with the notion that the PLAN Carrier Programme uses the USN experience as benchmark and example for its efforts.

ESG likely to be based in Darwin as well. Definitely makes sense for US foreign policy and maybe AU's too depending on how they view Chinese aggression

Guessing they've had blue prints for years.

Copy and paste is easy. Its figuring out how to use the platforms meaningfully that's key. They might have captured data they didn't have the means to collect on their own.

France UK to Launch Concept Phase & Feasibility Studies for Future Anti-Ship Missile in March 2017

quote:

MBDA will start working on its next gen anti-ship missile, currently known as the Future Cruise and Anti-Ship Weapon (FCASW) / in French: Future Missile Anti-Navire Future Missile de Croisiere (FMAN/FMC), in March 2017. The announcement was made December 16th in a joint statement by UK's Minister for Defence Procurement Harriett Baldwin and Laurent Collet-Billon, the head of France's defence procurement agency (DGA).

Délégué Général pour l’Armement, Laurent Collet-Billon said:
"I sincerely thank the French and British teams for the huge amount of work that has led to this achievement. Several major milestones within our equipment cooperation await us in 2017 and we will work just as hard to pass them. I am specifically thinking about the FC/ASW programme conception phase contract award in March 2017 and the launch of the FCAS programme demonstration phase at the end of the year."

The UK and France intend to jointly develop several new missiles, one of them being the FCASW. FCASW should eventually replace both anti-ship missiles used by the Royal Navy and Marine Nationale (Harpoon and Exocet respectively) as well as air-launched cruise missiles used by both countries (the Storm Shadow / Scalp). In service date is expected to be around 2030.

Contacted by Navy Recognition, an MBDA source said the studies would likely take place at MBDA France in Le Plessis-Robinson as well as at MBDA UK in Stevenage.

After few searches on Google, it looks like this underwater glider is LBS-G, developed by Teledyne which is a company for building sea research instruments . And surprisingly, China also have WPOS (Western Pacific Ocean System) program aided with many nations, although no clear hint if Teledyne is involved with it. The Chinese UUV was developed since 2015.

While medias disregarded WPOS and presumed Chinese UUV is for military purposes, LBS-G is a project contracted by US Navy, incorporated with LBS system. So Teledyne is clearly not a victim.

Mike, while your post made me sensibly chuckle; Dysta does have a point. POTUS-Elect's statement is a departure from 1. Current US policy on freedom of navigation and 2. his statements during the campaign about taking a harder line with the PRC.

It appears that the F-15E is getting it's AESA upgrade this year. Per Raytheon, the AN/APG-82 is an AN/APG-79/-63(v)3 derivative. This will likely be a huge plus to the Mud Hen, improving it's ability to target PGMs at stand-off ranges.

Got a name for this big guy? Think I've got it with designation in the db. Just no name. IIRC this is the first class fast enough to travel with the CV correct?

Also noticing the ciws at the corners.

Don't blame me I didn't vote him.

I'm honestly going to be fair and give the guy an honest shot. I think there is going to be a fairly large gap between what he's said and what his policies end up being. Honestly I think he likes busting people's chops. Kinda like Dysta!

It was just revealed that when the Chinese techs opened the drone they found a box of fortune cookies. All but one cookie had slips of paper with lottery numbers. But one slip did read, and I quote:

"how much deeper would the ocean be without sponges?"

The techs ran off in a panic thinking their sub program was just set back 10 years.

Kongsberg Joint Strike Missile completes long range flight test

quote:

The Joint Strike Missile (JSM) has successfully completed a flight test in the United States. The missile was launched from an Edwards Air Force-based F-16 over the Utah Test and Training Range west of Salt Lake City.

The JSM is a unique strike capability designed for internal carriage on the F-35. The test demonstrated safe separation from the aircraft performing a number of challenging flight manoeuvres, long range while continuously alternating speed and altitude, unique capabilities for this class of strike missiles.
