Jungle warfare. 5000 points, 10% arty, 1 air. Meeting engagement, large map. Visibility 24 (or something).
Teräspantteri has not yet had the time to write anything, but here's how i see the battle.
Turn 1: "Marine company sat in their LVT 1 Alligators. LVT's were driving slowly through thick jungle and swamp. If marines would've looked what's in front of them they would've seen a scout car driving into a little stream and stuck in there. Scout car crew started to dislodge the vehicle as Alligators swiftly splashed across the little river.
Suddenly horrible explosions shook the ground. Infantry that were running along dived into the gound. Enemy heavy artillery fired upon their apporoach. Screams mixed into the explosions as artillety fire cut down two soldiers. Also one scout car took a little hit and the crew started to change the tire on that one.
There were no sight of enemy."
Turn 2: "Marine company B had just crossed the river as they heard several violent explosions nearby that sent big piles of water in the air. Soldiers immediately recogized the explosions to be from a japanese tank. They noticed three tanks to their left at about 300 meters distance. They were targetting the alligators just as they were getting out of water. Two alligators were hit and the squads jumped into the swamp to seek cover.
M3A1 platoon noticed a lone airplane approaching from the sky. Alligators opened fire as soon as they saw that it was a zero. Several AAMGs fired at the plane and someone scored a hit, but that didn't prevent the airplane from dropping the bombload on top of a poor M3A1 tank.
Company A was badly pinned down due to heavy artillery fire to the area. They wished their commander would've requested those alligators too.
Marines took a few potshots on the enemy but it was all just a waste of ammo."

Japanese pilots just don't mind getting hits. "Heavenly wind", you know...
There wasn't much action but colonel Endo's valiant troops managed to destroy one more alligator and damage another. One of those rugged japanese armored cars took a hit that destroyed one of it's machine guns.

Marines are still pounded by heavy artillery. Slow advance, little casualties. Secured one patch of vhexes (though I haven´t claimed them yet). Setting up a defense perimeter.
Lost another Alligator to a tank again plus some men down. Called in some artillery to support the grunts.
Advance is really slow, the terrain really isn't as good as I would've hoped. Middle vhexes are about 300 m away with enemy tanks in vicnicity.
Still no sight of enemy infantry except one poor squad that was caught crossing an opening in the forest, almost got the whole bunch of them.
Two surpises so far: No motorcycle squads and where is the enemy infantry going.

This turn Japs blew up some Alligators and sent some marines to see their ancestors. Semper Fi! :D
My troops are just inches away from occupying all the middle victory hexes. Dare I say that things are looking very bright for the sons of the rising sun?

It was me who suggested the DAR and it was also me who didn't write any. To say long story short, I've been too ****** to write a single word on the battle.
All I have been doing the whole game is that I have been digging the marines out of the ground where they dived to take cover from that constant 105mm shelling. No change to move in any direction forward or back. And I guess they all dumped the radios. No changing the objectives for the suppressed troops. Continuous bombardment has slowly inflicted so much casualties that the whole raider company is almost wiped out.
The whole battle has been a total disaster for me. I just have to hang in there and teach myself a lesson about jungle strategy! I am so embarassed to not be able to put up even a half decent fight.

Well, I must admit that I've been more than lucky so far... Anyway I'm very surprised how well I've been doing, afterall it's my very first time in the jungle.
One more Stuart plus a 37mm AA-gun annihilated this turn. Also one of my Chi-Ha's got toasted by your cursed flamethrower squad...

Another turn of marine massacre...
How he's aniihilating my artillery park (Can you imagine the wonderful overrun possibilities "Forward! Reverse! Forward! Reverse! Hey there's another!")
I really feel sorry for the companies caught under that ongoing barrage of 105mm battery. Those poor men are very easy mop ups for Teräspantteris combined arms assault.
Half of the turns still left, there's no question about the battle outcome.
Mistakes I did: 1. Didn't adapt my strategy when I found out that enemy starts shooting those 105mm's. I should've held back and moved out of sight. 2. I used the cursed alligators, they are good otherwise but I didn't notice their too low speed in buying phase. If I would've walked my men I would've been able to get a decent defense perimeter set up in time. 3. Didn't protect my artillerypark or buy some transports for them. I did leave a M3 platoon to protect them, but two turns ago I went and met the enemy only to be shot dead with those. The Raider company that was supposed to take the north vhexes and defend the artillery is long gone. 4. I set the objective flags way too far. Once the companies were caught in the barrage, all they could do was try to move forward. 5. Plus a horde of small little mistakes I made due to frustration.

Found and (after unreasonable amount of effort) destroyed USMC command post. :) Major marine massacre just went from bad to worse in the middle.
Japs are after the back hexes now... They seem to be well-protected so capturing them won't be just a piece of sushi.

YAY! My 81mm mortar scored a close range hit and killed a tank!
"Reinforcements are on the way!", that is the five words I was going to say.
Here's some more words though...
-------------------
A brief moment of marines of the battlefield..
Sgt Dale and 2Lt Ferguson had managed to gather their squads together. They could see nothing. Only huge walls of fire and smoke in the area where they had few moments ago very bloody engagements with the enemy. Their ears were ringing from heavy gunfire and they could hardly breath the smoke filled air. "Where is your radio!?" shouted 2Lt Ferguson. "I have absolutely no F'n idea!" cried Sgt Dale, "Why don't you use yours?" They had lost many men and their radios were somewhere in the smoke. "Should we fall back!?" asked Sgt Dale. 2Lt Ferguson didn't reply, he just looked desperate.
Few hundred yards back. 2Lt Quick and 2Lt Terry had managed to gather their company together, most of the men were missing or wounded. They had met just few moments ago in predetermined fallback point. They started to set up a defense perimeter and wait for reinforcements.
Colonel Marsh was running. He was sweating and he just ran like never before. He sure didn't want to meet those SS eng tanks or 97 dozer tanks face to face. He tried to reach the fallback point and ask for permission to retreat.

The battle has been so straight forward that I haven't even bothered to look at the replays for sevral turns. This must be the worst game I have played.... ever!

Usually I think that games are lost due to poor strategy or tactics. Or games are won by good strategy and tactics. But now I almost think that some games are lost by luck...
Several times during the match I have been shooting the enemy armor with my AT-guns, displayed percentages 30-50 and only a few hits. This turn was the same but I scored a hit! But to compensate that the next gun malfunctioned.
I have so little equipment left that I really don't need additional malfunctions. I just hope that time runs out before Teräspantteri gets his troops in my positions.

Luck has definitely been playing larger role than usualy, but I think I would have won this one (by far smaller margin ofcourse) even without Lady Luck flying Japanese colors.

Score:
Japan 10504 - USMC 1596 Decisive victory.
About the artillery... All I can say that my gold spots were spot on. :)
I really like the Japanese OOB and most certainly will be using it again as soon as possible. I also fell for jungle. After all those countless fights in European landscapes I found jungle a very refreshing environment for a battle.
