The Singapore Issue
From VADM James Somerville
to Office of the Prime Minister

After a detailed staff by both the American and British Naval staffs we do not see that it is possible to relieve Singapore at this time. While Lieutenant General McLeod forces have withheld all that could be asked for of mortal men, we project they will be overrun in the next thirty to sixty days as their stockpiles of supplies run out.

At this point Singapore has ~24K of supplies on-hand and all naval routes above the water have been cut off. Supplies of critical materials along with the evacuation of the wounded continues via submarines but these simply can't provide the level of supply needed to prevent the stockpiles form being exhausted. We have also see the Japanese forces bring in additional forces, rotate units into the line and rotate them to the rear to recover. None of which we can do.

If you are paying tribute to him by using him in game, might be an idea to spell his name right ...
I am a fan of his so I find "Summerville" a bit disconcerting.

Fixed can't have anyone disconcerted, so I corrected the oversight.

I agree but in fairness to my opponent it was more of a target of opportunity. After the submarine ambush on the Yorktown it was safer at the landings to head west and then on to Pago Pago. If along the way I can get him directed to the Central Pacific so much the better.....

It seems that the estimation of power of the Chinese army is far greater initially projected. While it is not likely the Chinese army will be able to project power and launch a massive counter offensive, when properly lead and in strong defensive positions they are a formidably forces that will fight to the death for their homeland.

Ironhide

In the air we have unleashed Ironhide to take Cairns, as some of the land forces reach Cairns. In the past we have only swept for a day at a time. This time we are going to sweep until we secure complete control of the air and for the First time the P-38's are committed.

Next Turn the bombers switch to the "day" and some of the fighters switch to escort. As some added fun two Navy DB ACU's and one Marine DB ACU will be added to the mix to go after the ships. We might take some losses but the hope is that with simply more air units in theater he can't pull enough reinforcements to fight by day four or five.

Operation Hound in has ground to a halt over the last 30 days at the City of Cairns. The US Army 27th Infantry Division and Australian forces are investing the city. The UK 18th Infantry Division and Americal Division are resting outside of the city ready to join the offensive when the grinding begins. The US Army 41st Infantry Division is moving to Townsville to redeploy for operations elsewhere.

With the arrival of the B-17's and the two days of carrier strikes we have gained control of the air over Cairns with the airfield currently showing 99% damage. The B-17's will soon being bombing the port while the medium bombers ensure the airfield remains closed.

In fifteen days, the airfield at Charter Towers will complete its expansion allowing six additional medium bomber air units to operate at the front along with the six medium bomber air units to rebase closer from Rockhampton. When this occurs all the B-17's along with two squadrons of P-38E's will close down the last remaining airfield held by Japan in Australia.

With the limitation of frontage and the fortifications present we are limiting our forces to bombardment until the airfield expansion is complete and the slow battleship force is available after Operation Gears. Do we have an updated timeframe for Operation Gears?

As Always......

Prime Minister

After several months of heavy combat, it is my deep regret to inform you that as of two days ago, I ordered the Burma Corps to abandon Rangoon. With the arrival of two additional Japanese divisions they have been able to reduce our fortifications from five to one, albeit with heavy losses over the last five days.

Between the inability to use the closer airfields and the arrival K-44 IIA Tojo we are no the air war has shifted towards neutral. As we fall back to Prome and the Burma Line we should be able to shift this back to 2:3 or 1:2 in our favor. However, both our fighters and the Americans will need to be concentrated and we will need to continue to outnumber the Japanese to achieve this….

Staff Study Operation: Gears

With the forces gathering at Wallis Island for Operations Gears, please find the staff study review below of the operation. The overall objective of the operation is to secure Luganville and small forward bases.

--- The Combined Allied carrier fleet will support the operation with three task forces - each task force is centered around one US carrier and one British Carrier.

--- “Ching Lee’s” task force centered around the North Carolina, Prince of Wales and the Repulse will provide surface cover.

--- The Allied 1st Bat Division will provide shore bombardment for the operation. He This force is centered of Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania and the Warspite.

--- Local air cover will be provided from the level four airfield at Aoba.

--- Current intelligence shows 8,200 troops at Luganville and 26,000 at Noumea.

Operations by the US Army air force from Suva have destroyed the airfields at Luganville and reduced the port to 50% operations. To keep our true objective hidden these same forces have been switching targets every three days between Noumea/Luganville with the 1st Bat Division bombarding Noumea every five days from Suva.
During this same time frame US Marine Para and Raider Battalions will secure Vanua Lava, Duff Islands and Vanikoro. This should allow future operations in this area.

Operations Update: Gears

The forces are at sea and are an estimated three days from landing, at this time all forces remain undetected.

The eleven heavy bombers based in Suva are bombing Noumea as a distraction (@ 20% rest). This turn they moved to 50% rest and the following turn will move to 70% rest. The objective is to keep him focused there are on the objective Luganville. As the forces land at Luganville the bombers will be unleashed in the ground support roll for the first time in the war.

Don't overlook the Naval Guard Unit. Some of them are as potent as an SNLF.

You landed your Marine Air wing before you even secured the island? That's optimism!
Now give him the Gears!

I believe in the power of positive thought!!! At least when paired with a US Infantry Division and US Marine Division

Operation Gears

As commander of all forces Pacific Theather of Operations it is my great please to inform you that we have secure the airfield and port at Luganville. In soliders and marines from the 32nd Infantry and 2nd Marine landed on day one, renforced their portions on the second day and then stormed the facilities with little loss on the third day. We expect the clean up of the major forces to take less then a week.

The port and airfield were heavily damaged in between the fighting, aerial and navel bombardments. It may take several weeks to repair and start the expansion of the facilities.

Operations: Gears Day 5 and After

We secured Luganville on Day five with little loss on the ground. The only real losses in this operation and the one before were the CVE Long Island took some damage in the first operation and now the CVL Hermes has taken a submarine torpedo on the way back. Both ships will repair in Auckland/Sydney and are out of the fight for 30 days.

He has begun an air offensive at Arorae from Tabiteuea for the second time. We are going to run operation Prowl to have the Combine Carrier Fleet escort reinforcements for the Marine Def BN and USN Standard Base forts being Level 3 forts. Two USN Spe Cont BN's, one Coastal AA and one US Infantry BN will deploy under the carrier's cover.

There is a high probability that Operation Prowl will have to be scrubbed, it seems Japanese forces have landed on Arorae. We are seven days from having the shipping to depart with reinforcements. However, the Carrier Fleet from Pago Pago has been dispatched if we can hold for one more day its possible (though unlikely) that air power could turn the tide......

The Singapore Issue
From VADM James Somerville
to Office of the Prime Minister

Burma
The situation in Burma is growing dire quickly, the Japanese Army has moved on Prome in force and arrived before we were able to shift forces from the south. If the limited forces at the base can hold for two days we can reverse the situation --- if not our forces will be forced back. There is some possibility them being cut off.....

To help swing the balance for the next two days, for the first time the bombers forces will be unleashed on the Japanese Army in the Clear terrain around Prome.

1) Level 3 Forts, Six BR AF Base Forces, HQ-A, Light AA Rgt, Burma Inf Bn and one USA Base Group.

2) 1st Burma /C Div, 334th Cavalry Rgt & 7th Armored Bde.

3) 16th Aus Bde (26/46 miles, move mode) & 1st Burma / B Div (0/46 Miles, move mode).

4) 17th Ind Div, 17th Aus Bde, two AA Light Rgt, one AT Rgt, HQ-C and two Base Forces.

Operatation Hound

This area was in overdrive this turn. Two land attacks by Japan and several Naval Engagements. The Japanese Army counter attacked at both Coen and Cooktown. Battle of Townsville
From VADM Willis, A.N.
to Office of the Prime Minister

It is my honor to report that the Japanese forces which attempted to bombard the facilities at Towensville on the night of August 13th have been engaged and repulsed. During the engagement the DMS Elliot was lost in exchange for the DD Hokaze and CL Katori. Damage to the Japanese and allied forces are listed in the summaries below. Our forces were unable to achieve a more complete victory as we were in the process of rearming after the bombardment at New Caledonia in route to our new station.

Current Status of Forces
(a) Warspite 33/39(32)/50), Perth 30/21(8)/7(0) and Trevor 35/27(11)/7(0) under escort to Sydney for repair.
(b) Nevada 22/0(0)/4(0), Arizona 18/0(0)/8(0) & Pennsylvania 8/0(0)/0(0) are moving to resupply at the AKE's at Townsvile and are ready for action.

It my under understating that two repaired slow Battleships from the American Fleet are in route from Pearl at this time to reinforce my task force.
