pontiouspilot-

No doubt and a well deserved demotion too.

If I hadn't been so stoned on weed and hammered on scotch, I might have really blown it because I meant to put one hex East of Rota, not one hex East of Ramree Island. That mistake was fortuitous!

....speaking of scotch, I would recommend a nice single malt called Balbir. I received a couple bottles for X-mas. It is sometimes hard to get on this side of pond but it isn't outrageously over-priced, even by our over taxed standards!

pontiouspilot-

I've never seen, heard of, nor tried Balbir Scotch.

I will try to find that scotch and give it a try one evening.

Thanks for the tip.

I don't drink too often, but when I do it is usually tequila with El Lobo when he visits once a year, beer and vodka with my brother-in-law when we go camping/fishing for a two weeks once a year, and occasionally Johnnie Walker Black (reasonably priced) when orchestrating events in the war against El Lobo.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Pont—

Rio doesn't drink with me because we start calling each other names. In fact, stone-sober, I happened to think of a few just the other day, when I learned he sent top-secret information to the enemy.

Hmm. Lemme see if I can't remember those...

Capt. Haggard-

*laughing*

With you I never know what we are going to drink or when we are going to drink it.

As I recall, the old days use to be scotch.

Now days...umm, wine, beer?

Your pal,

By the Numbers

as of March 31, 1943

Victory Points

As many of The War College members are aware, El Lobo and I have agreed not to fight for Victory Points. However, for those of you that are curious as to the Victory Point Standings, the March 31, 1943 Intelligence Report is depicted below.

Ships Sunk in March of 1943

Japanese

1 xAK
1 TK
6 Submarines

8 toal

Allies

4 xAKL
1 xAK
1 AM

6 total

Japanese Rule the Air

At the end of February, 1943, for the entirety of the war, the Allies had shot down 340 more Japanese Aircraft than the Japanese had shot down Allied Aircraft.

During the month of March, 1943, Japanese Aircraft have ruled the skies, especially in Burma, and the Japanese shot down 200 more Allied Aircraft during the month than the Allies shot down Japanese Aircraft.

To date, the Allies have shot down 138 more Aircraft than have the Japanese shot down Allied Aircraft.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Strategic Map

as of March 31, 1943

The ownership of turf changed little during March of 1943.

Adak Island

El Lobo has withdrawn most of his troops off of Adadk Island, including but not limited too, 3 Japanese Infantry Divisions.

China

The Allies still hold Chengtu and Chungking.

An individual post providing more details on China will be posted a little later today.

Non-Chinese Allied units have entered China and have stalled one hex East of Paoshan.

Burma

The Allies hold Kalemyo, Akyab, Warazup, Myitkyina, Katha, and Bhamo.

An individual post providing more details on Burma will be posted a little later today.

Operation Sea Shark

As many of The War College Members are aware, the Allies are on schedule to invade the the four Southern Marianas Islands in June of 1943.

In preparation for Operation Sea Shark, five outlying Pacific Islands (Wake, Midway, Canton, Shortlands, and Rabaul) have been built-up. The forts, ports, and airbases are building nicely. Each base either now has or shortly will have a minimum of 1 BF, 1 SeaBee unit, 1 Airwing unit, 1 search squadron, 1 fighter squadron, and 1 dive bomber squadron. In addition, Wake and Midway will each have a defense battalion. The forts, ports, and airbases are growing fast. Each base now has adequate supply and fuel with more supply and fuel in transit to each base.

5/6th of the ground forces earmarked to amphibious land at the Marianas are consolidated at the Hawaiian Islands. U.S. Marine troops (Guam) are at Pearl. U.S. Army troops (Saipan) are at Pearl. New Zealand troops (Tinian) are at Lahaina. Canadian troops (Rota) are at Hilo. The other 1/6th of the ground forces earmarked for Operation Sea Shark will arrive at the Hawaiian Islands prior to June 1, 1943. All ground forces are close to being 100% prepped for their individual objective.

Non-trained carrier capable aircraft are on carriers training.

All combat ships earmarked for Operation Sea Shark are dribbling into Pearl on almost a daily basis and all combat ships earmarked for Operation Sea Shark will be at Pearl prior to June 1, 1943.

Sometime within the next thirty days, more detailed plans regarding Operation Sea Shark will be provided to The War College.

The Strategic Map is shown below.

China

as of March 31, 1943

The honorable and brave Chinese have stalled the Japanese advance in China.

Though the Chinese have zero aircraft, only 16 bullets, no shoes, food, nor dancing girls (they have all fled to Japanese troops...traitors), the Chinese hold Chungking, Chengtu, and the mountains North and Southwest of Chengtu.

Chengtu's fort level is at 1 (11%), supply is at 200, and AV is at 2,784.

Chungking's fort level is at 5 (6%), supply is at 420, and AV is at 7,086.

A force of Non-Chinese Allied units have entered China with AV of 542 and are stalled one hex West of Paoshan. These units consist of the following: U. S. Army 27th Infantry Division, 754th Tank Battalion, 632nd Tank Destroyer Battalion, 268th Motorized Brigade, and the 70th Coastal AA Regiment. The troops are adequately supplied, morale is excellent, and disruption below ten. The RAF 225 Group BF is marching to join this group and will bring the AV to 578.

A map of China is below.

-Terry

Burma

as of March 31, 1943

The Allied progress in Burma has been disappointing.

But then again, the Allies had reasonably assumed that El Lobo would not ship over 125 Japanese ground troops (with a minimum of 18 Japanese Infantry Divisions)to Burma. I suppose that the good news is that the Allies have tied-up a significant number of El Lobo's ground forces in Burma.

The Allies have blocked Japanese troops in China from reinforcing Burma. The Japanese are stalled in their attempt to reinforce Burma one hex West of Paoshan.

The Allies hold Kalemyo, Akyab, Warazup, Myitkyina, Katha, and Bhamo. The airbases at these bases are building nicely, as follows:

5 (47%)Kalemyo
5 (58%)Akyab
3 (76%)Warazup
3 (62%)Myitkyina
4 (18%)Katha
3 (79%)Bhamo

The airbases along the Impahl-Ledo line are all at level 4 or higher, most at 5 or 6. 150 Fortress and Liberators are stationed along the Imphal-Ledo Line. 238 Hurricane IIc Trop are flying into these bases to provide CAP over each base.

209 Airacobras and 202 Warhawks are at bases in Burma presently providing CAP.

El Lobo is attempting to advance 17 Japanese units toward, I suspect, reinforcing Lashio. The Allies have blocked the Japanese route to Lashio and the Allies are confident that El Lobo will not reach Lashio prior to it falling into Allied hands.

The Allies intend to commence deliberate attacks at Lashio on April 4th or April 5th. Perhaps, give or take a couple days to await an Indian Division and a British Brigade to march past Bhamo and into Lashio.

A map of Burma is below.

Best Regards,

-Terry

I am amazed you loss rates are lower in your game than in mine and I am 10 months behind you, Jun 1942. In my game it has not been a bloody affair by any means. Interesting how different players conduct their games, some are virtual blood baths, others a study in maneuver and less losses. I will be following you AAR with great interest as I am the Allies and may be able to take some cues from your operations.

I'd think long and hard on taking clues from my operations. *chuckling*

Thank you for your interest in El Lobo and my war.

Are you playing a PBEM?

Yes I am in June of 1942 as the Allies against an opponent i have played several times. Our loses are greater than yours and you are 10 months ahead of the us. As an Allied player conserving forces is always good but a balance between losses of units and losses of territory, VP victory conditions.

Bifi-

Do you or your opponent have an AAR on the forum?

I have had the luxury of not having to worry about a Japanese Auto-Victory based on Victory Points. El Lobo and I agreed to only have two rules: 1.) To ignore Victory Points and 2.) To have fun.

Accordingly, I only had to be concerned about loss of territory. However, I know El Lobo very well and I knew that he would be very conservative in expanding his Rising Sun Empire in exchange for building-up a formidable tight-perimeter wherein his forces can easily support each other. Further, El Lobo chooses to conserve military assets, fuel, and oil. He is merely preparing and waiting to defend from a stronger position with fully supplied stronger forces. The Allies will eventually face an inter-connected series of beehives.

Consequently, as El Lobo puts it, The Allies performed a Sir Robin on steroids until the Allies crossed the Burmese Border after the Monsoon Season last year. I have intentionally tried not to give El Lobo many targets to shoot.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Whoa!

I have a difficult time doing one turn per day and this AAR.

In terms of Grand Strategy, it appears that both of our wars are similar.

I reckon time will tell whether the Japanese conservative approach to war will pan-out for our opponents.

Operation Sea Shark

Southern Marianas Islands

Earmarked Assault Ground Forces

Opening Notes

The Allies are less than two months away from leaving Pearl Harbor on June 1, 1943 to invade the four Southern Marianas Islands.

The Allies haven't a clue as to the strength of Japanese ground forces, aircraft, and combat ships either on or about the Marianas Islands. The Allies are hoping that El Lobo's attention has been drawn to the recent Allied activity at Rabaul and the Shortlands. Considering the early date of Allied invasion, the Allies are hoping that El Lobo has not yet built-up the Marianas Islands. The Allies are banking on surprising the Japanese.

Over the course of this month, I will provide The War College with specific details regarding Operation Sea Shark.

Today, by objective, in separate posts, I will set forth the specific ground force units earmarked for amphibious assault of Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Guam.

Later this month, I will set forth the combat ships and aircraft earmarked for Operation Sea Shark. I will ask Captain Haggard to provide a synopsis regarding his planned submarine operations and other ships under his command operations in support of Operation Sea Shark.

During the month of May, 1943, I will have numerous questions for The War College, including but not limited too, the configuration of Amphibious Landing Task Forces, Carrier Task Forces and Mine Sweeping Task forces.

Assault Value Per Objective

Saipan (2,088)
Tinian (735)
Rota (569)
Guam (3,103)

Total Assault Value: 6,495

Best Regards,

-Terry
