Just seen the dice results for the naval search. FFS I am having one of those gaming days

I do not get it? I think it is 'no combat', although I have to check CPs to be sure, and that isn't all bad.
warspite1

I saw the 10 - and then the 4 and automatically assumed we were in the brown stuff again..... phew!

The rainy weather saved our grass... eh.. hide... convoys.

Without the modification for rain they would have found us on a 4.

Have you seen they've partially moved out of Sian? Don't know whether they will put another unit in there but I doubt it... It will be interesting to see their movement phase.

Yes, I saw. Very interesting. And somewhat surprising.

Even more surprising is that they have completely moved out of Sian! One resource less for the Japanese and one more for the Chinese is very nice.

My only piece of advice for you this turn is that you should pick well on US entry chits.

Indeed. Although China has to repair the factory before they can use the resource.

I have looked at what is currently face down. I cannot stop a German declaration of war next turn. Shall I make some withdrawals from the front - just a few to ensure nothing important gets lost or surrounded? He has few aircraft on the Eastern Front, but all the same, I don't want to give him any easy wins of key units.

Same procedure as last impulse? Land for USSR?

Remember that this is, most likely, our last impulse of the turn so use the air power. Strat bomb Japan if there is a opportunity.

And remember that it is snow already so the swamp hexes are treated as forest. So some nice encirclement moves can be made.

I think we should welcome a German DOW next impulse.

Although I now notice that USSR needs to rebase back their bombers from the front line instead of bombing the Japanese.

I think USSR should hold the front rivers and try to stop a crossing on the surprise. Since Germany is light on bombers I would place a few cheap units as sacrifice to ZOC the German advance on the surprise and to help protect the main line.

And since the HQI in the Pripet Marches can't retreat and the swamp might be no protection when Germany (or if) attacks. Therefore there is need for units protecting the HQI from being attacked or encircled on the surprise.

Good that is my thinking. Cheap units to frustrate the possibility of any breakthrough.

Yes a land for me. Nothing until movement phase.

No - I cannot see an appropriate unit to swap with the cavalry in Persia

The infantry in Murmansk can be railed and then can a reserve take its place after the DOW. I doubt that Germany can get the unit there in supply so it will not matter much that the reserve is disorganized.

True but the unit in Murmansk 4-3 is decent enough to stay there. I think we should wait until the reserves kick in, when there will be something more appropriate.

Indeed.

I just meant and by transporting it to the front you get another organized front unit next turn.

Yes, but I don't think that will make a difference if my sums are right.

I have some trouble with my convoy points. I have only one CP that can reach the East Med to give supply to Malta. And that CP is the only one that can reach East Indian Ocean. And if it is in EIO then I can use two of the NEI oil during the end of turn. But at the same time the supply in Malta can mean that it holds if Axis attacks as I expect they will.

Any suggestions?

I meant that it will be one more unit to move once the war begins and becomes mobile. The Murmansk unit will be stationary either way.

And I have a Indian militia that I can transport to Malta. Although the TRS might be doomed if I do. Especially if I do not get Malta in supply.

Thoughts?

Or should I save the militia for the Japanese front?

a) if you really want to move the Soviet that much then I leave to you.
b) At this stage, I am not sure that Malta is that vital - especially with the Marine quitting Africa. I certainly wouldn't risk a TRS for the move.

A) Not that important. I just wanted to make sure we talked about the same thing.
B) Malta is needed for a possible invasion of Italy.

If it was easy knowing what the right move was then this wouldn't be much of a game. And not much fun either. And we both know that this is the greatest game ever. Fact.

Mmmmm... maybe but I was think more of a North Africa / Spain (secure the Western Med) / Sardinia / Sicily type approach?

But if Malta is key then I guess if we can spare the downside then we should go for it.

The Chinese first build priority will of course be to repair the factory (assuming that actually produces a build point; I haven't checked the fractions.) After that, though, have the Chinese build their artillery? IF they can flip one of the many out of supply Japanese units, they might even be able to attack. And the Communists certainly would be able to.

No, China has yet to build any artillery. Although it is planned to do so.

However, the current Chinese production is only 5 BPs. And PM is currently at 0.75, unless Japan attacks and then it increase to 1.

Edit: Picture added.

The Chinese might not be able to hold on to Changsha with the Japanese HQI in the area. It is a big prize, but I might have taken Wuhan if the Nationalists have any units arriving next turn.

If the Mongolian CAV gets back in supply, it could soon threaten Mukden itself the next time it snows on those swamps in central Manchuria.

Isn't Harbin the capital of Manchuria?

I have long thought that MWiF should change the hex graphic of swamp hexes in Snow weather. Most players forget about the terrain change ... The Russian player should plan for it and exploit, exploit, exploit...

The initial plan was to threaten to take Wuhan. I didn't actually think I would get the opportunity to do so. I was going for annoying the Japanese with the cavalry. And when the opportunity to liberate Changsha arose as well I thought that would be more annoying. And as a bonus I could place the CAV on the resource. I wouldn't have gone for Changsha if the cavalry hadn't been able to stay organized. Now it has two in defence and the possible support of two Chinese fighterbombers.

And I do not mind if Japan attacks and destroys the cavalry. As long as he disorganizes while doing so. Attacks increase the Chinese production with almost as much as the cavalry costs. And might increase the odds for Chinese partisans.

Edit: And I suspect that the CAV is pretty annoying for Japan.
