I'm going to run an errand and let some steam off while I'm doing it. Be back in an hour or so.

Let's roll back the game start. I would recommend that you do a complete "fresh start" with the original game disc. If you can't find it , let me know and I can drive over so you can use it. I'd recommend doing a new desktop icon (or whatever it's called under windows 10) I'm still on 7 (and will be as long as possible or until someone convinces me that 10's reliable) with a name like "Stock install" or something like that. A completely different folder , with all the maps , and other data there. Once installed , use the "auto update" feature that will take you up to the current "official patch". Then stop. Walk away from the program. TALK to me. Tell me what patches , artwork, mod's , Beta's or even God forbid house rules you'd like. We can negotiate and come to a consensus and go from there. Let's hold on the AAR's till we're stable , organized and ready , unless we have a tech problem which the forumites can help us with. Let's start over and do this by the numbers. That should reduce chaos, angst and teeth-nashing to an absolute minimum. Whaddya say sirs?

Hell, I would like to help but I cannot even remember what side the Gorn is playing!

It might be very simple fix.

So, what you are saying is the Gorn actually finished his first turn, sent it to the Allies.

I am guessing the Allies didn't have the PW error, and then the Allies did their turn 1 and sent it back to the Gorn.

Whereupon the PWhex error raised its ugly head for the first time when the Gorn went to watch the glory of turn 1?

This should be an easy fix - without the need to redo turn 1

Gorn sends his pwhex file over to allied player who overwrites existing pwhex file with it (assuming he has no other games in progess - if other games then make a copy of the game). Gorn runs turn and sends over replay. Allied player runs replay and checks he gets same results.

If results different then the allied player goes back to the turn 1 save file sent by the gorn and allied player reissues orders (with the new pwhex in place). repeat the replay test.

This shouldn't cause too much of a delay (thank god) so get to it!

Only other problem is if one of you is using extended map and other isn't. then is a matter of the allied player chaning the art files to match pwhex (just get the gorn to zip his and send them over)

That may be more a problem than you suspect. If the 'agreement' was for a stock scenario 1 with the latest 'official' patch and a standard map and the gorn drew up turn 1 on a beta on an extended map, then the Allied player should not feel compelled to play a whole game with these 'unapproved' alterations to the game.

Is my understanding correct that the beta patch does not impact OOB or anything else and that it just affects the .exe? In that case it would be possible for two players to play two different types of the game, right (the Japanese with the beta and the Allied with 'stock')?

I don't see a way around the map issue though. Then again, I've never played with extended map, so maybe it's peachy keen either way.

I'm pretty confident I exterminated the extended map. I'm thinking the PWHex error thing might be because I'm using a chemkid mod of the map. If that's all it is it should be no problem. I'm including a screenshot of it here which should be conclusive.

I did confirm that I started the game using the latest beta. I'm cogitating on this and as many of you know that's quite difficult for a gorn. My position at this time is that 1) I don't want to play using Steve's serial number and I haven't found my original disc yet. 2) I propose downloading the latest official patch and making sure it replaces that beta. 3) After having done that start from scratch, I should be able to enter all the orders I did before in a day.

Anyways, if anyone sees that there is a map problem, please advise.

That is the stock map and Aden aligns right so you are correct( who knew? ).
I do not think that chemkids map mod changes the pwhex files, just the artwork.

OK this sounds more like I need to do a third install (I have two other's which I'm running PBEM's). My intention was NOT to either screw up my other two PBEMs and their installs, hence the reason I wanted stock. Please be so good as to tell me EXACTLY what you want/need/prefer so that I can figure out what I need to do to fix this.

Whatever you guys do, test before you leap:

Gorn create a second PBM in a different save slot but of course in the same installation.
• Gorn enters password, don't bother with any orders, end turn.
• Gorn sends to Human.
• Human enters password, no orders, end turn.
• Human sends turn to Gorn.
• Gorn runs turn rsolution.
• Gorn opens turn, no orders, end turn.
• Gorn sends turn to Human.
• Human runs combat replay.
• Human opens turn, no orders...

Now the inter-species conspiracy has effectively run a game through giving orders for turn 1, running turn 1, opening turn 2, and should have encountered NO ERROR MESSAGES. If error messages were encountered, figure out the problem and try again. When there are no error messages encountered, delete that test PBM and go back to creating the real PBM in the slot desired.

A separate install for each PBM is definitely recommended!

+1 to that recommendation!

Also, I believe that error can be caused by one player using stacking limits and the other play not using them. A simple way to check is if the file dates are the same. The SL file is dated 5/06/12 while the non-SL map file is dated from 2010 I believe.

Forgot to mention that if this is the problem, simply copy the desired map file into the appropriate game folder and you are good to go. No restarts needed!

It's deception. Steve will be lethargic by the time the game starts, then Gorn The Graceful will appear, moving with dazzling speed and decisive power.

Or something like that.

Lethargic? Probably in the final stages of rigor mortis Hoping they both are able to get over this
bump in the road patiently and efficiently.

Negative. You need to be on the same patch. The betas are fine and both they and stock have some glitches. Beta is better IMHO.

Right, the artwork files don't matter as long as its not on an extended map. As opposed to a standard map.

I will add my feeble attempt to clarify that last one.

The pwhex data (three files) is the map the computer reads. The map art files are the map the humans read. They must match up, or else the human will be misled. For example, the human might think there is land where the computer knows there is ocean, and so on.

So, yes, you can change map art at will and even have different map art for each player, but make sure it faithfully represents the "real" map that the computer uses.

Please stop calling Steve names before Bill locks this thread!

I believe we will do this but first I need to back up the WitP-AE folder, then install the latest official patch. I think I'll put the ugly stock map in there and then run those tests.
