Game 4

Me as Natiolist Chinese and AllenK as Communist Chinese.


What kind of set up are you planning for Communist Chinese?

I plan something like shown in picture. I broke down one CAV.

I have strong defense in center (red circle). I can put 3 units stack to one hex in north depending on how Communist are planning to set up. What would help you most? I'm prepared to defend southern coast.

Edit: In north I can place my stack also to SE of Sian.

My concern would be the INF on the resource hex. It looks a bit of a vulnerable target. Could you find another unit from the centre and have 2 unit stacks in the two cities instead?

Most experienced WiF players seem to suggest holding Chengchow is a good move, so I'd go with that.

The Communists will deploy in the mountains around Sian and Yenan.

I like to put three units into Chengchow too. Apart from that, I would always put the NatChinese as for forward as possible, in either mountains or behind rivers in wood hexes, and always at least two unit a hex. This forces the Japanese to put units into defensive positions too. Consider fast Chinese units near Wuhan or the mmountains south of Chengchow, who might run towards Nanking or Suchow if the Japanese don't put at least one unit at defense.

The same goes for Canton and Hainan. Always put a Chinese unit within reach of those area's (but not on the coast), thus forcing the Japanese to put units in those cities at start too.

The more Japanese units forced to set up in places where they can't be used for attacking the Chinese in the first good weather turn, the better it is, I believe.

You can always withdraw your units later towards the huge mountain range west...

Game 4 (I'm playing CW)

Egypt does not look like being under immediate attack.

CW did not get any INF units to be placed in UK (2x MOT, MECH and INF HQ) so The Queens can't take INF to Egypt. Sydney MIL will go there asap.

CW sends ARM HQ from Egypt to France (please leave port of Toulon empty for CW units).

Italian have MTN on French border, make sure you have all 4 hexes occupied after reserves arrives.

CW is determined to support mainland Europe with all means.

Don't send Wavell into France, if Balbo is on the Lybian-Egyptian border, until the Sydney MIL is in Egypt.

Italy can attack with invading INF to Egypt.

CW planned to place CA to all Mediterranean sea areas so that it can't go very high box. CW also sends CV to East Med.

True, but those attacks will be made by divisions, which can easily be destroyed by the TERR and the gun currently in Egypt, especially if the Indian Ocean fleet moves into the Eastern Med, which you are doing now.

Game 4

It looks like they've gone with more or less the same set-up as Game 2.

It's a bit early to predict a Close the Med strategy but the Italians are set up to either run west to take Tunisia and Morocco or evacuate to the mainland. It'll be interesting to see whether the Germans set up for Fall Gelb or Poland first as in Game 2.

With 3 chits in the Ge/It pool, getting the CW CV's into West Med for an early DoW on Italy and port strike the TRANS would help secure the CW position in North Africa (and limit the potential use of MAR's if Gibraltar is a target).

France and USSR combined, China land.

France can send 2 5 speed BB's to Italian Coast to hunt CP.

Ground strikes

TB-3 in Odessa hits Sofia.

Rail moves
USSR rails INF from Pskov to Kaunas.

I can do my land moves and USSR will attack Sofia.

Just checking whether or not the French 105mm wants to try a groundstrike on the either of the stacks opposite. Brussels has the 9-4 INF, 8-5 ARM and 150mm ART. Other hex has INF, MECH and 88's.

Wonder what the different options being debated are?

With the UK nearly empty, Sealion using the GARR at Kiel and the PARA's springs to mind. The PARA's can reach Dover or Harwich. Have to watch to see if von Runstedt moves to the coast for follow up landing and/or the PARA's move to increase their options.

Hope you are okay with my use of your BB's.

I did consider just going for the CP but it seemed a waste of the surprise points when I could get an X on an Italian ship. I could have used 3 points to choose a target, which would have given X, 3A. The X could then have been put on a CP (or BB) but it's a bit of a waste to use and X on a solitary CP.

Edit: Oh well, they put the X on the CP in the end anyway.

Curious ground strikes. I would have sent at least one for the stack with the Paris MIL as that looks the one they can get the best odds for an attack on.

I'm off out for a couple of hours.

CW & US Combined, China Land.

CW sends 4 CVP's with a NAV factor to Port-Strike Kiel. Leave the Gladiator on deck. That's for CAP over the CW forces in Belgium if necessary.

That leaves 1 air move. I think I need to ground strike the 8 factor ARM and MECH in the hex they have just taken. If they aren't stopped they can get a 3:1 minimum +2 + Blitz bonuses. If the Blitz works and they send through 16 factors, I think they will overrun that lone Bordeaux MIL. Send the DB-7 and escorted by the Spitfire. Hopefully Germany will have to commit the remaining Me-109, leaving your remaining LND an easier chance against a Bf-110.

Naval move - move Queens from Arabian Sea to Suez.

Catch up in a bit.

May not be available at all tonight.

Thinking on the implications of that breakthrough, I think that needs a bit more effort towards it. Amend the port-strike to the best 3 CVP's, leaving Nimrod and Gladiator on deck and send the Wellington as well as the DB-7 on the ground strike.
