Will Force Z show up at Miri today?

Allied naval search is a little hampered with the loss of 8 Dorniers (set to naval attack) and the only task force he spotted north of Miri is the covering fast Battleship force. Because Zeroes are present he knows that a CVE is there too.

Lots of action happening across the world, plenty of opportunity for a canny Allied player to hurt Japan. But the reverse is also true.

Yesterday was the first attack by an Allied sub with a Hit, but no explosion. This happened north of Luzon on a merchantman.

Japanese Economy

The Light Industry was expanded more than 180 points, but some of it has already repaired. I will be boosting it 300 points roughly.

Vehicles will expand to 210 perhaps 220. I will convert one factory to vehicles in Manchuko/Korea and think about increasing armaments elsewhere to offset the conversion.

I never, ever, turn off Armaments or Vehicles. Thank you Pax for that tidbit which my game with Tiemanj proved the wisdom of.

No plans for Naval or Repair shipyard expansions. No shipyard expansion at Tokyo so no light carrier conversions.

No manpower or resource repairs.

You do realize Barges have fuel for 3 hexes.. and Kota to Kuantan is 4 or 5.

I think the word you are looking for is precaution and not predicament. The invasion force was in a predicament, and as a precaution the invasion is cancelled.

Just wanted to make sure you accounted for that.. Probably best to use a sub (if you can) to refuel them as anything else would be targetable by naval attack.

Also interested to understand why you are using barges... I mean, as Japan you can use DDs, cruisers, to fast transport, at "warp speeds", not to mention that any xAK/ xAP is a fast transport until the end of the amph advantage

barges will need to be refueled, and they are slow and small

Headquarters:

A very important unit, and I take pains to use them.

There are 5 command HQ to start. Their normal range is 9 hexes, but if a Corp Army HQ is within range of an attack/defense base then the command HQ range is doubled to 18. A very useful number.

This allows the use of General Defense, and Kwantung to be used against the Chinese.

The 5th fleet normally goes to Luzon and helps with either Clark, Manila or Bataan.

So you can get all 5 Command HQs in action against the Allies, and if the dice gods ever cooperate it is a magnificent force multiplier.

Small being the operational word there. With an escort, they will almost never be attacked by subs. They will almost never be attacked by air -- one exception is fighters on strafing naval attacks seem to target them. If they are hit ground troop losses are minimal.

They are incredibly fast at loading and unloading. Incredibly fast. If going from port to port they can pick up and unload and disband all during the night phase. Set them not to refuel, and odds are once they are sent back to the pool they will generate their own fresh fuel they next time they are constructed.

They also add color to the game. And since they can be spawned anywhere, pose a potential small invasion threat everywhere -- even when Allied recon is good.

In this case, I am not going very far. I don't want to risk better shipping until the 2nd wave and more support arrives.

Barges are incredibly useful, as long as you have the supply.

If you look at the map, there are several great spots for quick unexpected barge invasions.

PS: You cannot use subs to refuel anything.

I wasn't sure if you could or not :(

I always use barges between Oosthaven and Merak - too close to Batavia to risk real ships and not important enough for Carrier involvement.

Dec 10, 1942 Night

Several engagements...this game is going to be such an economic game. I can't believed he put fuel on her.

One of my most favorite Revolutionary War figures.

I just want to really convey the steps the Allies are taking to cram fuel on their ships. Some might have escaped without pausing to load up with fuel.

This game is really going to focus on the economy.

This is another action east of southern Luzon.

26 more 800 KG were dropped on this run, with the Narwhal eating one. I sure hope she is gone, as the Allies are known to be studying putting infantry on SSTs.

No Val strikes on the two Allied task forces near the KB...but at least a half dozen reported hits from search planes.

More Iboat goodness.

I think this is a good tactic from the Allies. Load with fuel to deny its capture. Most of those ships will be sunk anyway so why not load them with stuff to deny to the Japanese.

Nice second strike on Pearl. Flak does not seem to be bad at all.

Those maps are really nice. China looks lush and ripe for pillaging!

From a level 1 port with almost no supply, 1 AD reloaded all of these destroyers with op points to spare. Full load of ammo and torpedoes for each destroyer.

The power of an AD!

Sure beats sending them back to Cam Ranh Bay or Formosa. Fuel on the way too, plus the AD will use her remaining op points to refuel some this turn.

Miri Invasion in good order. Follow on wave includes an IJAAF COY support unit and a day later a IJAAF Battalion. A little longer for the AA to arrive, unless I divert a ship or two from the Palembang invasion.
