Questions on communications feature - 4/19/2017 11:02:01 AM

A couple of days ago, a detailed article appeared on warfaresims.com about the upcoming DLC and its comms feature.

My questions on the upcoming comms feature (if you are so inclined):

1. Is ELINT able to detect communications in the simulation similar to radar detection? If not, is this planned for the future?

2. Are low key wireless communications like cell phones, cell phone towers etc. covered?

1. Not in the commercial version.

2. Any comms link can be disrupted/jammed. If you're thinking of modelling counter-IED ops (jamming the cell phones that detonate IEDs) it's probably the wrong tool for that.

Ouch, my most hoped-for function - not for us. Thanks for the prompt answer!

So no need for radio silence?

Do comms networks as described on Warfaresims have an in-game presentation/UI to set them up, or is it all in lua, like "kill that command bunker, then units xyz are scripted to be out of comms"? I wonder how, as a scenario designer, you decide (and script for many units) what's realistically connected to what at which ranges and what kind of data they can exchange? Things like that.

With the tools provided for the commercial version you need to use the editor and Lua to establish comms nets. A simple example is that you can establish that Bunker A is a vital communication node and if it is destroyed then a variety of other units you choose have their comms deactivated. There are no in-game communications and data link systems you need to knit together at this point.

How are comms between units within the same group going to be handled? Even modern navies practice the use of signal lamps, and capable air forces should be able to sort targets intra-flight completely comm-out. Obviously, these methods are lower fidelity and dependent on unit proficiency, but provide lots of information over nothing.
