I watched "White Tiger" (2012), a Russian WWII movie with English subtitles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiGDJ5-dXaI What a trip You could define it "Moby Dick, shot like David Ayers' 'Fury', but directed by either David Lynch or Nicholas Winding Refn. Everything, from the historical reconstruction, to the acting, to the cinematography, is first rate. However, be prepared for a movie heavy in mysticism and symbolism. Very different from the usual American fare, but also not "Putinesque". If anything, it is a movie about disillusionment and hopelessness, even in the middle of the Russian soldiers cheering for the conquest of Berlin. If you have seen "Valhalla Rising" by Refn, that's the kind of poetic that you find here. My mark: 8 out of 10.
