I guess it was already mentioned here, but I just discovered this Russian production. It is a 18 parts documentary about the Russian Front in WWII.
It is called "Soviet Storm". Very, very little propaganda, lots of facts, and a well realised blending of real actors and CG. I'm hooked.

Looks interesting. Thanks for posting.

Très bon. But it won't be quite the same sans Henrietta.

"Yesterday's Enemy"

In WW2, during the Japanese invasion of Burma, the lost remnant of a British Army Brigade HQ, led by the ruthless captain Alan Langford, escapes through the jungle toward the British lines.

Anyone see the new Doctor Who episode?

I thought it was pretty good and the new assistant - Bill - offers something very different to Clara.

A reasonable start to the series.

It reminded me of Shada - an absent minded timelord professor.

Battle of the Bulge (1965).
Learned alot of new things;
1. The Tiger II looks exactly like the Patton.
2. The Sherman looks exactly like the Chaffee.
3. People took way longer to die back in those days.

Why would you (voluntarily, I assume) subject yourself to this movie?

Don't forget that fuel drums, when kicked downhill, make superb antitank weapons.

Just revisiting the movies my grandfather made me watch when I was a kid.
Yeah true, those fuel drums...Wonder why no more attacks like that were made

Heehee! Back in the 1990's, having not watched it for yonks, I bought Battle of the Bulge on VHS.

I couldn't believe how bad it was! As a kid that was such a great film....

I watched "White Tiger" (2012), a Russian WWII movie with English subtitles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiGDJ5-dXaI

What a trip You could define it "Moby Dick, shot like David Ayers' 'Fury', but directed by either David Lynch or Nicholas Winding Refn.

Everything, from the historical reconstruction, to the acting, to the cinematography, is first rate. However, be prepared for a movie heavy in mysticism and symbolism. Very different from the usual American fare, but also not "Putinesque". If anything, it is a movie about disillusionment and hopelessness, even in the middle of the Russian soldiers cheering for the conquest of Berlin. If you have seen "Valhalla Rising" by Refn, that's the kind of poetic that you find here.

My mark: 8 out of 10.

Ive seen a couple Russian movies recently on Youtube that are very well done.
White Tiger, Star, Come and see, and the one where the Lieutenant is charged with cowardice and is guarded by the Asiatic solder.

Big Little Lies ended last night. Looks like no one here watched it, but this was an excellent series with excellent actresses (Kidman, Witherspoon, Dern, Woodley) and a gripping plot and series of sub plots.

Please can we have a season 2? Please?

On a darker note was the first of 4 episodes of Little Boy Blue. Based on the true story of an 11-year old Everton-mad little boy who was shot and killed in 2007, having been caught in the cross-fire between rival gangs while walking home from football training on a summer's evening.

Fine script, fine acting - but a thoroughly, depressingly sad episode.
