ORIGINAL: Canoerebel Appalachian Trail backpacking trip with my youngest son, who is 20, begins early tomorrow. We'll return Wednesday night if everything goes according to plan. I started section hiking the AT from Springer Mountain, GA, in 2007. My oldest son, who was 12, joined me. The next year, his younger brother, who was then 11, came along. Since '08, the three of us have walked every step to Damascus, Virginia. It's been a blast. Hard often. Painful occasionally. Wonderful always. I'm going to miss the company of my oldest boy, who has work conflicts. But I'm looking forward to this father/son trip with my youngest. He's 20 now and soon will have conflicts of his own. One of these days it'll just be me. I don't know if I'll enjoy that after all these years with such good backpacking companions. Y'all have a good weekend and I'll see you sometime next week. Have fun! And as usual throw us a few pics of the deep woods and vistas when you get back!
