Jan 25, 1942 SOVIETS: Toyohara is taken!! After some MiG sweeps and bombing runs the wore down the 50+fighters present, paras were transported by flying boat and took the base. This is huge and means that the Japanese will struggle to support Shikuka, and likely will have to invade amphibiously to regain Toyohara previous to any other big moves in the area. Another big plus here is that it looks like three fighter groups were destroyed on the ground, including one of the KB A6M2 groups!! The Soviets will transfer an engineer unit there, fly out the paras and install a naval guard unit of about 40AV. Just enough to hold in the likelihood of a return para strike. I'll now concentrate on keeping the airfields at Shikuka suppressed and begin targeting port and ground forces to kill supply and begin lowering morale. Since the base is in the clear if air strikes are successful, I may also walk a unit over and see if we can challenge for this base. In strat bombing news, DB-3M strike Keijo in a firebombing raid and get to 47,000+ fires!! That should have an effect! It'll likely take a few days to see what burns down here. SUBS: One xAK hit off of Hong Kong. DEI: The 4Es hit Balikpapan and come up against a small but determined group of A6M2. We lose a few on the day but still get 6 oil hits in total, so it's worth it. I'll now try to concentrate on Djambi for a while. In other news I'd just moved string bags back to Singers to look out for the next BB bombardment when two xAP show up full of troops! Curious what was happening there. They get 6 fish each and go down like rocks. CHINA: Some RAF units are transferring to China to add to the bombing campaign here. A strike against Hong Kong is met with a big Nate Sentai, but still gets 5 HI hits. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Jan 25, 42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Toyohara , at 124,46 Weather in hex: Light rain Raid spotted at 18 NM, estimated altitude 22,000 feet.
