Status: offline 		In the interest of giving the hawks something they can really splash around in I've got a collapsible pool (5' dia.) coming. I won't want to empty it and clean it real often so I'm thinking of getting treatment stuff to use. Is the following stuff appropriate and what else do I need?

Status: offline 		You're right. I'll just have to give it a good cleaning every week. Hope I get some good pics of them in it. I'd like them to visit more often and get some of the rabbits that have been eating my garden. They've killed two rose bushes and eat a lot of other stuff as it comes out of the ground. I've even seen them eating milkweed! That's got latex in its veins.

Status: offline 		Hai! Probably not appropriate to use pool cleaners on anything you suspect would be consumed by wildlife.

FWIW, in the commercial poultry setting, a 2PPM-5PPM solution of chlorine in the drinking lines is tolerated well by turkeys. Anything north of that level will result in water refusal, which can be a disaster. Anything north of 20PPM (dilution errors occur-Oops!) may result in chemical burns or esophageal/crop/gizzard ulceration.

BTW, shock is an intense dose of chlorine. Bromine and hydrogen peroxide are usually used as safer alternatives to chlorine, but they aren't as effective.

A circulating fountain with a filter is probably a better way to go. There are a lot of cat and dog drinking fountains, we have a couple for our cats. One for a large dog might be the best way to go.

In general, people rely too much on disinfectants to do the work of detergents. You don't want to / need to 'shock' a bird bath. Simply dump out the standing water and use a little elbow grease and a brush to get off the vast majority of debris. Bromine / iodine are absolute non-starters for use around wildlife. The sort of applications you're thinking of-purifying water for potable use in humans-are a non-sequitur for use as a bird bath.

After a thorough cleaning and rinsing, then you can apply a dilute chlorine disinfectant spray if you're particularly concerned about pathogens or high bacterial levels adhered to the substrate (clay, metal, what-have-you). Then allow to dry or off-gas. Then rinse. Then fill with water for reuse.

Exactly. Except the Gorn thing. I've no idea about whether or not a Gorn's nether regions [shivers] can be cleaned by anything known to man.

Status: offline 		I’m trying to do a film treatment, and I need some help. As most of you know, the word “super”, which is Latin, is an exact synonym of “hyper”, which is Greek. Somehow in English, “hyper” has come to mean something beyond “super”, but that is not an accurate portrayal. In any case, Hollywood is insistent, they want something bigger and better than “Superman”. So, I am in the middle of constructing something I might call “Hyperman”.

Casting. How do we cast this character? My first urge is to cast Rowan Atkinson as “Hyperman”. I’m looking for someone paralyzed by indecision. Perhaps he could peek out of his rabbit hole to assay the plain before him. Friends of mine suggest Crispin Glover would be better suited, but I ask how long his tie will be?

There will be those among you who will militate for Johnny Depp to be “Hyperman”. I understand your point but remain devoted to Crispin Glover in the role of “HyperMan”.
