What is going on with saving equipment files? I have been trying to understand it and have been battling it for several weeks now and I just can't take it anymore.

This screenshot represents 3 saves, in one folder, using one name, the same name every time.

I have used the name 1876 AP Test all 3 times I saved the equipment file and I have a 1876 AP Test.eqp..eqp. file, a 1876 AP Test.eqp.砀⥹. file and a 1876 AP Test.eqp file, and the changes I just made in that last save of 1/3/2018 will not load.

I saved them, went and tested 1 round of combat and reloaded the scenario and it said 'wrong eqp. file' and is showing me the state of the equipment file from 1/1.

Why won't it overwrite and only leave me with 1 file? Why are the names so crazy? How do I keep from having to deal with this issue?

Edit the file name.

I removed the two that didn't match and that worked, but is this a bug or do I just need to always edit the file names and/or remove other saves?

Suggest 2 things:

1- Update with the latest beta patch 4.0.1.23. I first had the same problem, but I think it went away after that patch.

2- Use the F11 key to generate the eqp and nqp files with the scenario name in the My Games/TOAW4 folder.

Both worked in my case

Thank you, I will give it a shot, because I'm running into a ton of issues other than this with the equipment DB, will post here how it goes.

I updated it and I am still having the same problem, which specifically now is the .eqp file refuses to save changes to the defense strength rating, always reverting it to 5 no matter what I do. Thanks for trying to help, might as well be running the beta anyway.

I posted about this in the main forum but I'll put it here too.

You mentioned something about the beta? Do make sure after all you got 4.0.1.23 installed, mate. Also, dump you .eqp files here in a .zip and I will have a look after my morning hike.

I ran it last night, copy/pasting and overwriting with the 2 files that came with the 4.0.1.23 beta. How do I check ingame to see the version? Can't seem to find that. I will note that since the beta install my eqp file saves are consistently an xml file now, before it would show me some of the craziest file names I'd never seen ha.

Here is a link to my .eqp and the test scenario. https://drive.google.com/open?id=13vOhcazjH72D_o3aJoZahXqqAI1xeQJj

Now I was editing the db extensively for the last month with no issues like this, it just started.

Again, thank you sir.

Ok, so I just tried to make the same changes in another DB, the oldest one I have for this scenario and testing, the one that has never had a problem (I was thinking this other .eqp was corrupt maybe?).

Now it's looking like the game does not like defense strengths under 10, as any change to that effect gets reverted to a 5. If I change it to a 7 0r 8 or something, it stays like that into the actual battle, but when I reload the scenario it has changed to a 5. In this DB it is not reverting to the old strength, which was 22 in this case.

Ok so some additional testing is telling me this is not an .eqp problem, other than it continually telling me I have the wrong .eqp file, when I'm doing exactly as I have done all along and never had that problem before, but most importantly, entirely new edits are being saved, except for the defense strength.

Exhibit 1:

I edited this to have 2cm armor, I gave it the 'armored' attribute and set it's defense strength to 10

And after saving .eqp file and scenario, I reload to find that the defense strength has been changed to 5.

I edited this one to have a defense strength of 10 as well, but gave it no armor.

And after the reload we see that it still has 10 defense

This is a screw-up by me. Armored equipment derives its defense strength from its armor thickness. The DF value itself is used to set the weight of the equipment instead. The value being entered here is the DF value regardless of whether the equipment is armored or not. It should have been the weight when the armor flag is set.

So, you can still vary the defense strength by varying the armor thickness. But you can't set the weight. What you can do, for now, is look for an existing equipment that has the right weight, and use it as a starting point (copy and paste).

Ah gotcha, glad it wasn't a bug in the editor at least. So how about this, since I'm experimenting with using armor for personnel: In the default database the Mounted Rifle Squad (Late) has 1cm of armor, but not the armored attribute checked, so last night I found that you can set the armor any thickness and as long as you don't check the 'armored' attribute, the game does not overwrite your defensive strength.

So now my question is, are these different armor thicknesses being recognized? Are they still coming into play in the battle results?

Now, I found this jewel for you to see how Mark Steven simulated the Zulu Wars of 1879...

http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/scenarii/the-operational-art-of-war-scenario-828-The-Zulu-War-1879

I think there's a modified .EQP, incl. Henry Repeaters etc. So, have a look at this scenario.
