Like this....

You will find the above Fairey Battle graphics files in the attached .zip file.

This link contains instructions on how to install them: Aircraft Art Request (specifically post #5)

Please note the zip file contains a choice of three airplane tops so pick the one you feel is most appropriate. You will also have to rename the files to the correct slot number (slot 102 for this scenario).

quote:

The files should be named as follows ;
A_PlaneSide0102.bmp
Aptop0102.bmp
Aptop_alpha0102.bmp

Save these files in the "\Art\AlliedPlanes" folder in your game directory. (Please create this folder if it doesn't exist).

I probably should get Andy to include these files in the scenario pack. (hint, hint...)

Best of Luck

Oh sorry about that. You have to create that folder "\Art\AlliedPlanes".

Information about this folder can be found in the attachment to post #1 of this thread: Art Mods by MichaelM.

Andy,
Here are some suggestions, The following ships may need to have the initial positions changed. I looked on the Net so I do not know that the following is 100% accurate.

BB West Virginia should still be at Pearl Harbor. She sailed for Bremerton on 7 May 1943.

BB Nevada should be at Puget Sound Navy Yard (Seattle hex). “refloated on 12 Feb 1942 after only two months. She received temporary repairs at Pearl Harbor and sailed to Puget Sound Navy Yard for further repairs in Apr 1942.

BB California should still be at Pearl Harbor. “On 25 March 1942, California was refloated and dry-docked at Pearl Harbor for repairs. On 7 June, she departed under her own power for Puget Sound Navy Yard”

DD Shaw should be at San Francisco with damage. “On 9 February, Shaw steamed towards San Francisco where repairs were completed, including the installation of a new bow, at the end of June.”

DD Cassin should be at SF for Apr 44 “Recommissioned 5 February 1944. Cassin reported at Pearl Harbor 22 April 44”
DD Downes should be at SF for Mar 44 “Recommissioned on 15 November 1943, Downes sailed from San Francisco California 8 March 1944”
“Both Cassin ans Downes ship's hulls were damaged beyond repair but machinery and equipment were salvaged and sent to Mare Island Navy Yard where entirely new ships were built around the salvaged material and given the wrecked ship's names and hull numbers”

CM Oglala at Pearl but with major Damage (she was not raised till mid Apr 42)
“She received temporary repairs during much of the rest of 1942 and, in December, left Pearl Harbor for the U.S. west coast, there to be refurbished for active service. She was redesignated ARG-1 in May 1943 and recommissioned at the end of February 1944 ”

Thanks Daryl

Andy,
Suggestions for the mod.

The 131st Field Artillery (Unit 5621) should be removed from the mod. It was sent to Java on 11 Jan 42
and surrendered to the Japanese on 8 Mar 42.
147th FA Reg (unit 5620) and 148th FA Reg (unit 5622) I believe should be at Darwin.

Also, I would think that after about 6 months of war all units on the map should have some fatigue and/or disabled units.

Some Japanese unit examples that have 0% would be the 56th Div (3945) /18th Div (3944) in Mandalay, the 16th (3851) / 49th Div (3852) at Bataan, and the 38th Div (3813) at Davao
Some Allied unit examples would be the 23rd Ind Div (6466), the USA 41st Inf (5615) / 32nd (5117) in Australia and the 25th ,(5563) 24th(5559) and 27th (5071) at Pearl Harbor.

Thanks Daryl

VS-1D14 2839 – Samoa
VS-2D14 2840 – Bobcat (Bora Bora)
VS-4D14 2842 – Bleacher Comm. (Tongatabu, 805) Maybe put this at Suva so it has some support units???
VS-5D14 2843 – Roses Comm. (Efate, 1289) Maybe put this at Noumea for support units???

Source https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/Building_Bases/bases-24.html
“For the Efate and Tongatabu assignments, coded ROSES and BLEACHER respectively”

Hope this helps

Question? Are Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu in port with significant damage to simulate being ridden hard and put away wet?

HIJMS Kaga hit a reef in February 42 and was damaged to the extent of losing a significant amount of speed. She missed the Indian Ocean Raid because she sailed back to Japan for permanent repairs. She was newly repaired for the Midway Operation. Expedited repairs were ordered at the beginning of April to allow participation in Operation MO (Coral Sea) but she didn't clear dry-dock in Sasebo until May 4.

HIJMS Hyuga suffered the permanent loss of one of her main gun turrets due to a gun explosion in early May 42. She was also repaired by the Midway Operation with extra 25mm AA installed where the turret used to be.

HIJMS Ise suffered a major machinery casualty (flooded engineroom) about the same time as the Hyuga's gun blew up.

G'day,
While downloading files that Kull suggested would help with the AI, I found the may 42 Scen. Very interesting! Before I start, was wondering if the anybody found if the AI (particularly the Japanese AI) was working OK?

Also, is there a later version that has the Hornet starting at PH along with the Nashville and Atlanta and DD's that are currently down at the Panama Canal. Wasn't Saratoga repairing on the West coast at this time from a torpedo hit?

Anyways, I'm more interested if the Japanese AI can offer a reasonable effort.

thanks,
terry

Saratoga was up at Bremerton (Seattle) at the time repairing torpedo damage as you suggested; it would barely miss the Battle of Midway in June. From what I've read, the Ironman scenarios (and Nasty variants) are the way to go for a challenge from the AI. I think there is a reasonable argument that a non-Ironman AI game is still worthwhile if you are learning various aspects of the game.

I'm playing through my 1st 'stock' GC (ever so slowly) at least until I have some practice organizing major amphibious operations beginning mid to late '43, even though the bulk of the KB didn't last past Jan '42. It's the start of Feb '43, so the APA conversions will start soon.

Does anyone know if you can play this scen as the Japanese? i.e. is it designed for this? (will the AI work for the US ok?)

Thanks!

This scenario is playable on both sides against the AI, according to this post.

Only checked the Allied side but few if any of the corrections/modifications sought have been included in the version I downloaded. Is there a "copy" that does have the various suggestions incorporated?
