This confuse me. If there are lots of GX series for Y-8/9 and is still producing more, then what is the purpose for making Y-30?

Y-8 and Y-9 are equivalent to the C-160 or An-12, while the Y-30 would be the C-130J and A-400M.

"June 7, The USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) was moored at Berth A2/A4, Pier 3 on Naval Weapons Station Earle, N.J., for ammo onload."

I took a few pictures like last year but they are too blurry to post. The NWS is nearby.

War novels and video games predicting a nuclear war between US and NK might stay fictional forever. But hey, you can't build Rome in one day, so does the peace needs actual progress too:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-kim-sign-joint-statement-promising-complete-denuclearization-korean-peninsula-075453594.html

EDIT: Some people are still dreaming on: when will US to deal with totalitarian regimes by their "liberial" solutions, which means they never agree NK and other nuclear states just back down and talk peace easily. If Russian and Chinese regional aggression are still there, how could US suggest NK will be different?

I would not post any quote about this one, it's around Twitter.

After one day, the rumored Y-30 have been mistaken -- it's actually a static model of TTC, as known as the Ukrainian-designed heavy lift aircraft demonstrator in 2009. Back then China has yet capable to design large aircraft, and have to build the airframe with aid of Ukrainians. Thus named Y-20. The Y-20A is the domestically enhanced design and conducted maiden flight in 2013:

For the next PLAN news update, some detective work yet again:

It is about the long-rumoured follow-on to the Yu-6 Heavy Weight Torpedo, reportedly designated the Yu-10.

It has, more or less, officially began with Bill Gertz usually alarmist, but rather reliable and authoritative article in the Washington Free Beacon about China "Testing a high-speed precision guided torpedo", accompanied with an ill-fitting photo of a Yu-7 LWT launch, dating November 14th 2013:

http://freebeacon.com/national-security/china-tests-high-speed-precision-guided-torpedo/

Due to the typical cryptic and inexpressive nature of Chinese military report on which this Gertz article was based, it was largely ignored by the western PLA-Watching community.

Then, in Summer 2014, Chinese state media leaked some pictures of an unknown and never-seen-before heavy-weight torpedoe, featuring what could be flank-array and pump-jet propulsion according to some analysts:

More here:

http://slide.mil.news.sina.com.cn/h/slide_8_203_30089.html#p=1

Again, people didnt know what to do with these pictures and quickly forgot about them.

But now, Chinese military forums are buzzing with people discussing recent insider leaks about certain "Yu-8, Yu-9 and Yu-10 torpedos" having finished their trials and are being introduced into service for quite some weeks now. What makes me doubtful at first is that noone has ever heard anything about these designations at all. But now, after consistent buzzing over multiple chinese military BBS boards, and lots of "Big Shrimps" (Chinese term for insiders/leakers with well known credentials) supporting these rumours with selective leaks, I began digging deeper into that matter.

Coincidentially, Feng, a long-time fellow Chinese military blogger writing for Information Dissemination and Defense News, and who has good reputation among professional military analysts who are often quoting his posts, has written an entry mentioning the ongoing ruckus about the new torpedo:

http://www.informationdissemination.net/2015/03/the-most-secretive-chinese-naval.html

In his view, the Yu-10 rumours seem credible, as the PLAN has acknowledged the need for a high-speed and long ranged torpedo that is able to chase down the very fast and deep diving USN Nuclear Attack Submarines, as the previous Yu-3A and Yu-6 family arent all that suitable for that role anymore.

Today, a "Big Shrimp" has leaked the prospective stats of the Yu-10 heavy weight torpedo:

Translation:

Yu-10, the next generation heavy-weight torpedo and the successor of the current Yu-6, was long rumored to be roughly comparable to the Mk-48 Mod-6.

According to the big shrimp, the stats are following:

Low-speed not slower than 28 knots
Medium-speed 40 knots
Top-speed not slower than 55 knots

(possibly top speed still same as the Yu-6/Mk-48 i.e. 65 knots)

Smooth, level-less transition to the different speeds, resulting in low noise emission.

Maximum range of 60 km (at unknown speed)

You are in luck. After 3 years, the rumored Yu-10 has been shown during Xi 's 09III visits in CCTV footage:

If the specification is true with "Top Secret" importance, then range extension and bow passive sonars are giving US submarines some nightmares. On top of YJ-18 missile canister there are 4 black-painted Yu-10, meaning it has to be in service and is mass manufacturering.

Finally!

According to big shrimp who was asked to comment on this shot: "All that someone need to know is the missile (bottom) is secret, the torp (top) is top secret"

This indicates two things: Not only that the Yu-10 is in mass-service, but also that the YJ-18 can be tube-launched like its Russian cousin.

Also, President Xi's visit to the nuclear submarines has given us a treasure trove of new information about the secretive 09III Shang-class SSN/SSGN family.
There seem to be multiple versions of the B-modifications around, each with progressively smoother humpback and sail.

YLC-8B also joining the rank of long-range and portable anti-stealth radar alongside with JY-26, the one that featured in Commonwealth Collison DLC. It reported it can track 0.04m2 RCS of target at 'several hundred kilometers'. Estimated range will be the same JY-26 because of the frequency limitations.

https://www.twitter.com/HenriKenhmann/status/1008283174495969280

The airshow also displayed other phased array radars in different working frequencies and purposes, serving as supplements for an entire land-based early warning system, so those are recommend to run as a set rather than an individual radar:

And YLC-29 is a passive surveillance radar to track stealth targets by reflection of civilians FM radio frequency, but didn't stated it's specification:

JY-300 UAV with conformal AESA array. It is described as AWACS UAV, which will fulfill the role of air, ground, sea-search and missile defense, as well as providing targeting data for HQ-9B SAM to engage sea-skimmers over the horizon.

I wouldn't call it an AWACS, because it has no "C"ontrol (and command) cabin. AEW drone is more likely to be called, and using other comm methods to tell pilots what to do.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5867469/The-stealth-sheets-hide-soldiers-vehicles-infrared-cameras.html

"A team of researchers have developed a device that can make soldiers and vehicles disappear. Called the 'stealth sheet,' it's a paper-thin device that can obscure objects from being detected by a drone's infrared cameras."

Lead scientist was born in China. Similarly, a Chinese researcher is working on new sub propulsion.

https://today.uconn.edu/2018/05/uconn-researchers-advance-submarine-power/

I am sure this is not uncommon at American Universities and there are few bad actors. But it must be difficult to track all the research all the time. I wonder how many Americans are working in China on military related technology?

Is it built by metamaterial? If yes, China was demonstrated it publicly too:

Many.

But I cannot tell what was happened after 1989. Otherwise, some areas like aerospace and other civilian project can still have some foreigners involved.

Today = 0; I would imagine. It's an entirely different geopolitical landscape today. But it would be interesting to see if there are any American scientists employed by Chinese Universities and if they are working on military related projects. Of course "military related" can be broadly defined. For example, material science can provide technology with both military and civilian implications.

No, these two individuals do not. I hope you have not searched all day to find these old men as examples since you are validating my point without knowing you are I am talking about today's scientists born, raised and educated in America possibly being employed by a Chinese University related to China's military research establishment. Please search for those young American scientists and/or engineers and see what you find. Let's PM this. Thanks.

Christ, I stepped into your minefield, thanks for your... excessive... politeness though.

And not to forget, how outrageous would that be if Chinese military fans found out their advanced stuffs are developed by foreigners, even with Chinese citizenship only. This is both nationalistically and politically unacceptable for millitary branches, and possibly civilian sectors. The government's openness for foreigners to enter Chinese R&D does not prove they're trustworthy until they understand the benefits outweight the concern, maybe a decade later.

The best examples would be the Ukrainians' aids for Chinese aircraft carriers, heavy cargo aircrafts and attack helicopters. I don't hear any foreigners are dual-citizenship (with other western countries) or a Chinese descendent involved with those, and at that time China can't make anything better by themselves yet.

Or put it in rather dark perspective: Americans does helping China with military projects, passively and without consent. That news about F-35 down below is the prime example, giving it to the adversaries will defeat the purpose of what F-35 are made for:

---------

Senates want to stop the F-35 deal to Turkey, but they can still have two of them 'for training' until a proper handover in 2019:

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/21/turkey-f-35-joint-strike-fighter-delivery-begins-from-lockheed.html

EDIT: Nope, not handed over.

------------

And it gets better after the Sea Dragon leak: US Boston arrested Qin for smuggling submarine warfare devices to China:

So, the US intelligence did know about the chinese railgun for quite a while, it seems. Why the all the surprise, tho?

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/21/china-will-have-worlds-most-powerful-naval-gun-by-2025-us-intelligence-report.html

quote:

US intelligence report: China will have the world's most powerful naval gun ready for war by 2025

The warship-mounted electromagnetic railgun is expected to enter China's arsenal by 2025, according to sources with direct knowledge of a U.S. intelligence report.
Railguns have long appeared on Russian, Iranian and U.S. military wish lists as cost-effective weapons that give navies the might of a cannon with the range of a precision-guided missile.
China's railgun is capable of striking a target 124 miles away in under 90 seconds, according to the report.

China is currently testing the world's most powerful naval gun and people with direct knowledge of a U.S. intelligence report say it will be ready for war by 2025.

Railguns use electromagnetic energy instead of gunpowder to propel rounds, and China's is capable of striking a target 124 miles away at speeds of up to 1.6 miles per second, according to the report. For perspective, a shot fired from Washington, D.C., could reach Philadelphia in under 90 seconds.

Railguns have long appeared on Russian, Iranian and U.S. military wish lists as cost-effective weapons that give navies the might of a cannon with the range of a precision-guided missile.

The rounds used in China's railgun cost between $25,000 and $50,000 each, according to the intelligence assessment. Though not an exact comparison since the weapons have different technologies, the U.S. Navy's Tomahawk cruise missile has an estimated price tag of $1.4 million each.

China's railgun was first seen in 2011 and underwent testing in 2014, according to people who spoke to CNBC on the condition of anonymity. Between 2015 and 2017 the weapon was calibrated to strike at extended ranges, increasing its lethality. By December 2017, the weapon was successfully mounted on a warship and began at-sea testing, a feat no other nation has accomplished.

The U.S. Navy's railgun, years away from being operational, remains a classified system still in development under the Office of Naval Research.

China's sprint to develop a weapon of this magnitude comes on the heels of Beijing's recent deployment of missile systems to fortified outposts in the South China Sea.

The railgun coupled with the new coastal defense systems represents a significant addition to China's military portfolio in one of the most contested regions of the world.

Might be the first time seeing the new smart-fuzed air-burst 76mm anti-missile rounds in action. Here, a PLAN Type 071 LDP is doing an anti-ship cruise missile defense test, using its PJ-26 76mm naval gun.

Long rumored to be in testing, now apparently deployed for the 76mm dual purpose naval guns of the PLAN. Each 76mm round contains a "high-precision time fuse" that uses a muzzle system, comparable to the Oerlikon AHEAD concept, detonating 222 pieces of prefrabricated tungsten alloy fragments towards the frontal arc. It suppossedly can intercept incoming supersonic missiles at 3km to 10km.

Previously, we have seen a model of the round, as well as excerpts from research papers.

China already deploys the AHEAD-concept with their own PGZ-07 SPAAGs, armed with AHEAD-enabled copies of the Oerlikon 35mm AAA guns that the PLA acquired in the 80s. So, the technology for muzzle-programmed time fuze is well understood.

And in previous arm sale shows, China is offering the truck-based SA-2 76mm AAA compatible with these smart rounds.

Melara and AK-176 are capable to use 76mm as a CIWS as well. This will significantly increase the 056's survival rate against AShM, given by a bigger caliber than 57mm (MK-100) and 35mm (SkyShield).

And 76mm gun is not clumsy too, if only it can have bigger capacity: https://youtu.be/nESfMlI19jY

This is an interesting summary of Russian Air Ops over Syria. The author assess that the Russians appear to have issues with target development and operational use of carrier aviation, but have been able to sustain high sortie rates for almost the entirety of the conflict.
