Allies with seemingly unlimited ships...kind of a disappointing attack, and unfortunately no follow up attack in the afternoon. The Well escorted Vals had a milk run, but Allied flak was quite strong.

Elsewhere, two Mavis flying boats flew at 1000 feet and nailed an xakl. Yippee!

60 Beasts at least make for Saigon after a sweep, and of course the damaged baby carrier that I had been nursing blows up while repair crews work on her....the beasts seemingly unaffected by the presence of my fighters and fighter bombers.

That is the huge Allied fleet SE of Cam Ranh Bay...making for the paratroopers at Quinhon, perhaps? 32nd Division of Yanks with ABDA forces in support easily take Phnom Penh.

... and now I've managed to catch up on this amazing game. What a ride!

Congratulations for putting up an outstanding fight under these circumstances, Lowpe! I'm sure you have learned a lot from this game. I know you will never forget this one.

Hey, thanks...it has been a series of unfortunate events!

Lessons learned...don't start a ground war in Asia! Ooops, failed that one, bigly!

Hm. I don't understand.

I had a similar thing happen in my SCEN 19 game aginst the AI.

If a unit has to cross into a contested hex in strat mode and is just a hex away it will stop moving and start unpacking.

If the distance to cross is larger that will not happen.

This is the thread where I discussed it.

On the image below the numbers in red are dates and the unit is moving towards Sittang bridge, which is a dot base SE of Pegu.

EDIT: wrong image linked.

Live and learn. I could have flown in a handful of infantry squads...which I am busy doing all over. I have so many fractured units...

Movement code hiccuped.
The turn the enemy moved in they remained in RR strategic mode and only moved 10 miles, which is less than they would have moved in move mode on a major road.

The arrival of an enemy unit in the destination hex after the initial movement calculation took place caused the calculation to crap out.

In non-code talker terms at least. Someone who knows code lingo can describe it more accurately I'm sure.

Part of why I like the game so much...somebody down the chain got cold feet, unexpected locomotive breakdown...or perhaps some infiltrators took out the rail line....sounds so much better than talking code.

I wonder if the unit was attacked before it arrived? If the unit is attacked in strat mode it pops out of strat mode - right?

No, wasn't attacked prior.

Generally anything that could go wrong, has gone wrong in this campaign.

Sweet relief when Admiral Lowpe gets to play a 'normal' game.

That is nice to say, but not really truthful. Obvert is outplaying me.

He's knocking me around in a normal game right now. No worries :]

Again, that is nice to say, but without the Bear Japan should early on.

Something is wrong with my radio, I'm not picking it up on any channels...

Hey,
Wasn't it you vs Mr. Kane in a fast paced game?
How do you flip turns so fast?
Me --- I spend a couple of hours minimum on a turn, sometimes 4 or 5 on a busy one managing pilots or setting up a new offensive/ defensive move.

I would wish you luck but assume you are playing the Ever Virtuous Allies where little luck is needed.
Or did Lowpe flip to take up the Allied banner?

Questions and questions, but my radio is broken, no answers.

Thanks for the update.

I can't keep up the games with two AARs too. I did post a quick series on taking Singers before Jan 1, 1942 in the war room I think (scen 1 game) without suffering a shock attack to get into Singers.

Me too, and that's against Andy AI … to consider a PBEM game. And I simply can't find time consistently, life is crowded with an 8yo and all of his activities in addition to mine and my wife's.

Let's see, the first turn on my current game has a save date of 9/10/17. I have made it all the way to 1/8/42 as of today. If I am lucky I get to work on a turn once/week. I can find the 15 mins or so to get my morning "Lowpe" fix, but that's it.

Maybe when I retire.

So, my kids are in their 20's, and I have to tell you the older they get the busier it seems to be for all the right reasons...way busier than when I coached their sports as 8-14 year olds.

I have a full dress military marriage upcoming, another off to ROTC basic training at Fort Knox this week, and a third leaving on a choir trip to old Venetia.

Enjoy that time with the 8 year old...great age that goes way too quickly.

After great deliberation, we are sending the freshly rearmed heavies into Quinhon, with the KB in support position.

This could get super ugly as I am staging for an all out naval strike. Two carriers and one baby can't make it in time to reinforce, but will be available on the following day.

The rest of the night is peaceful here...Allied bombardment by Boise and destroyers on Malaya. Typical super heavy damage.

In hindsight, I should have just sent the Kates at 26,000 feet, but instead sent in this package low a 10K strike package.

I had the right idea, but definitely should have sent just the Kates high looking to attrit the Allied carriers.

Nells flew west unescorted and got chewed up.

No Allied strike as expected.

Well, now you have the root of the problem … I have a 26yo to go with the 8yo.

Man, what an outcome ... the allies lose only 2 fighters?! 2?

The A2A results just seem preposterous. The Allies did better here than the turkey shoot in the Marianas -- and that with Wildcats going against Zeroes?

It is my bad, I should have waited a day and combined CV forces...but I was hoping the IJN battleships would have gone into Quinhon and run into the surging Deathstar at night...but the Battleships hanged back.

I was hoping that 140 Zeroes would have been able to shepherd more of the strike package thru...but not to be.

I have to admit, that while the usefulness of the Yamato is debatable, there is absolutely nothing more pleasing than getting her into a fight (big IF), getting her to hit something (another big IF) and see the other ship go down (not that big of an IF).

I believe you can make it happen :D

She is on her way...and picking up escorts as she goes.

I changed her commander, too.

Those 46 cm shells are ... impressive. But as Mahrgell noted, you have to get through a lot of ifs firsts. May the luck finally shine on the IJN!

Trade one for one in fighter sweeps, Allies move ships outside of strike package, an Allied sub blunders into a mine, and I am hunting for AV troops anywhere I can find them...just don't have any. Stretched so thin everywhere.

I am still astounded that the Allies can put so many troops, ships, and equipment together for this level of counteroffensive operations in August 1942.
