Damn. Was hoping 7th Armour would at least survive the turn.

I've learned one valuable lesson from all this at least.

Allied Turn October 14, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

The Wehrmacht goose steps through London and both German and Italian (??) morale soars.

A Garrison in Cambridge and the 7th Armour behind a river to northwest of Cambridge are destroyed by German air and panzers.
A German Medium Bomber takes a hit from AA fire, as English fighters have little to no effect.
On the ground the German Army takes 1 damage and one of the Panzers takes 2 damage (but also earns a 2nd pip of experience).

A German paratrooper does 4 damage to a Garrison in Birmingham. While the Garrison in Coventry is ignored (for now).

Elements of the Luftwaffe stage to southern England.

In the Atlantic the U30 sub continues the engagement with HMCS Saguenay (1 exp) and get the better of the encounter (2 dmg to the DD, 1 dmg to the sub) and then flees in the direction of the French west coast.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Mud in Europe.

On probably the last turn that the UK can put a crimp on the German supply situation in England, Sterling Heavy bombers first strike at Oxford where a German HQ has set up.
The Sterlings are escorted by fighters from HMS Courageous and encounter Me109s flying from Portsmouth: GE FTR -2 dmg, Oxford -1 dmg, Courageous Air wing -1 dmg, Strat Bombers -1 dmg.
A 2nd wave is launched at Southampton (Portsmouth's port) and is escorted by Spitfires and intercepted by German fighters in Caen: GE FTR -2, Port -1, UK FTR -3.
Oxford is now at a 2 while Southampton and Portsmouth are both at 3.

HMS Javelin surprises the Italian sub Leonardo da Vinci and does 3 damage while taking only 1 back.
ORP Blyskawica then comes to help Javelin and forces the da Vinci to dive.

Hungary joins the Axis

Raiders hit the Indian (iirc) and Egyptian convoy lines for 36 MPP damage.

I also believe that my poor weather luck continues as it appears that it will be clear (yet again) for the Axis in England.

--------
*I was hoping the Armour would survive the round. Probably too wishful thinking. Same goes with the weather rolls.

I am having issues with my computer and will likely have to take it to the shop.

It won't access the Internet a couple minutes after booting up. Including jamming up whatever I could get started on briefly after logging in.
Then it won't shut down. It gets stuck on 'Waiting for Task Host Window'. If I force that closed it gets stuck shutting down. I get the 'Preparing to Configure Windows' message that will stay up for hours and hours until I kill the power. When I start it up the process repeats itself.

I've tried logging on with a different (wife's) user id;
and I've tried shutting down immediately after logging in;
and I've tried shutting it down at the login prompt screen. Always the same results.

---
*Sigh I was hoping for fall rain; but why should 1940 be any different than 1939. I was also hoping I did enough to the supply situation to stop paradrop shenanigans.

Allied Turn November 5, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Mud in England. Rain in the Atlantic.

An elite Garrison unit in Coventry withstands 3 attacks from 2 Panzer units before succumbing. They even manage to do 1 damage to one of the Panzer units.
The damaged Panzer (str 7, 2 exp) then pushes on south of Sheffield, defended by a Corps. A German Tactical bomber is sent to soften up the defenders and is hit by AA fire twice (1 by an AA unit, the other by the city/Corps).
The Panzer then attacks and the defenders hold after taking a total of 4 damage while managing a point of damage to the Panzer (now str 6).

The elite Garrison in Birmingham doesn't fair as well and is destroyed by a paratrooper and a German Army, with only the German Army taking 1 damage.

A 2nd Paratrooper moves next to Manchester and Liverpool and triggers a surprise combat against the Corps in Manchester (too bad not the Army in Liverpool).
The Corps in Manchester takes 1 damage while the Paratroopers take 2. The paratroopers do spot the Strategic Bombers between Manchester and Leeds.

The Strategic Bomber (str 5) air field is then targeted by Tactical Bombers (which take a hit from the AA unit between Sheffield and Leeds), a German Fighter and are wiped out by the 3rd set of paratroopers
dropping safely in the mountains between Sheffield and Manchester.*

The Corps defending Bristol is hit by 2 Medium Bombers, 1 Tactical Bomber and a German Corps. It is reduced to half strength with only the first Medium Bomber taking a hit.

In the Atlantic the scouting Italian Sub Leonardo da Vinci runs into ORP Blyskawica and manages to do 1 damage to the Polish Destroyer without repercussion.

Allied Turn
Mud in England. Rain in the Atlantic.

Tactical Bombers, escorted by fighters from HMS Glorious, strike at the 7th FSJ paratroopers (str 8) south of Manchester. German fighters stationed at Oxford intercept:
Glorious Air Wing -1 dmg, UK TAC -1 dmg, GE FTR -2 dmg, GE Para -2 dmg.

The BEF Army in Liverpool then attacks the 7th FSJ (str 6, supply 2, morale 49%, readiness 40%) and does 3 damage to them. The paratroopers retreat south, thus denying the Corps in Manchester a chance to kill them with low supply.

The Corps in Sheffield hops on a train and flees northward.

HMS Suffolk runs into the Gneisenau west of the southern tip of Ireland and west of the convoy lines. Both ships are shocked to find the other at relatively close range in the storm and put shells into each other.
Gneisenau -2 dmg, Suffolk -3 dmg.
HMS Salmon then slips in close from the south and puts a torpedo into Gneisenau for 2 more damage.
HMS Norfolk then arrives from the north to help her sister ship and exchanges 1 damage with the German Pocket Battleship.
Gneisenau flees eastward away from the British Cruisers and next encounters HMS Rodney. Rodney and Gneisenau exchange 3 damage.
HMS Duke of York then puts a shell into Gneisenau's magazine and blows her up, but not before taking a hit back (1 dmg).

The half strength Corps in Bristol boards transports and is evacuated.

The UK convoy lines are ravaged for 75 MPP in losses.

The weather gods continue to hate me as it appears to be clear skies and ground for Germany in the UK next turn.

--------
* A landing in mud in the mountains and no damage whatsoever.

Kudos, IG.

I was not expecting a push in Egypt until after Malta was delt with.

My sparse units were placed lazily and now I've apparently paid for it.

This game is rapidly approaching ROFL Stomp territory.

In addition to all the normal German advantages, there is now a 30% (possibly more) national morale difference between the UK and both Axis powers.

The UK fleet can't defend the Isle, and the convoys, and prevent Italy from getting into the Atlantic. I haven't done any of those 3 things very well. All I've done is kept it from getting ambushed/picked off.

That's about the only thing I've done better than the AI would have.

The USSR is looking at not only a Germany with very high National Morale, but a very likely Barbarossa that includes Rommel attacking into, or possibly even from, Persia.

Allied Turn November 27, 1940

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in England. Storms in the Atlantic.

An Italian Battleship finds the Transports (str 4 after rough seas last turn) from Bristol, but doesn't attack (Cruise mode, I presume).
An Italian Destroyer then moves in and does 3 damage to the Transports.

Another Italian Battleship (str 8) is observed entering the Atlantic.

The Italian Naval Bomber flies to the English East Coast where HMS Glorious flew her escorts from and is intercepted by Glorious's fighters.
There are no escorts and the Bombers take a hit of damage with none to Glorious's air wing.

The Corps in Manchester is destroyed.

The Garrison in Leeds takes 2 damage.

The USA Volunteer Fighter Group engages an Italian Fighter and a Medium Bomber. The UK Fighter takes 4 damage while hits are scored on both Italian air units, and the Bombers taking a 2nd hit from AA.
In Egypt the Corps south of Sidi Barani is forced to retreat and then destroyed. An Italian Army takes 1 damage and a German Panzer Grenadier takes 2 in the fighting.
A German Panzer unit bypasses the UK Army in Sidi Barani and destroys the fighters* on the ground. It takes a 2nd attack at O'Conner's HQ in Mersa Matruh but fails to do any damage.

Romania joins the Axis.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in the Atlantic.

The Garrison in Leeds is reinforced, while the AA unit north of Leeds bugs out northward.
The BEF Army in Liverpool digs in determined to be a thorn in the side, for a little while at least.

In Egypt, The O'Conner HQ and the WDF Army dig in as to attempt to escape would compromise what little defense there is.

In the Atlantic the it takes a major effort by the Royal Fleet but they manage to sink the RM Conte di Cavour (BB) and do 7 damage to the RM Lampo (DD).
HMS Duke of York (str 9) takes 4 damage and the HMS Rodney (str 7) takes 1 in the fighting.

The badly damaged (str 1) Transports then manage to high tail it out of the area.

The UK convoy lines are ravaged for 112 MPP in losses.

Rain appears in England, finally.

--------
* Funnily enough it is the USA Volunteers that is the name of the FTR group that is part of the Egyptian Reinforcements.

Allied Turn January 20, 1941

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in England. Storms in the Atlantic.

A German Army (str 8?) is surprised running into a UK Corps defending Newcastle. It takes 1? dmg (ends at str 7) and does 2 dmg to the Corps.
A massive air battle then occurs over Newcastle. UK Fighters take 9 damage spread over 3 Fighter wings and 3 damage to the air wing of the newly christened HMS Formidable.
4 hits are recorded over 2 German Fighters as well as 2 hits to the German Maritime Bomber, and single hits to a Medium Bomber and 2 Tactical Bombers.
The defenders are finally shattered after the mass bombing raid, and the weak (str 5) German Panzer seizes the city and then retreats back south.

In Egypt the Aussie Corps is destroyed after bombings and Panzer attacks. The Panzer does take 1 damage in the fighting and an Italian Medium Bomber is hit by the Corps AA.
The Italians attack the cut off WDF Army in Sidi Barani doing 2 damage while one Italian Army takes 2 back.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Storms in the Atlantic.

The Kiwi troops give up their fortifications and retreat to El Alamein, where they will probably be destroyed next turn.

Bulgaria joins the Axis.

UK looses 51 MPP to raiders.

For defense air battles, I only see the explosion to your units without any numbers.
So I describe them as 'hits', instead of specifying a damage amount.
I could/should have noted that 1 or 2 of them were against bombers that didn't have any escorts, but it is hard enough to keep track of it watching 1 play through.

Allied Turn March 3, 1941

Previous Axis Turn:
Snow in England. Storms in the Atlantic.

The WDF Army in Sidi Barani is shattered, but not before damaging 2 Italian Armies (1 dmg each) and a German Medium Bomber with AA fire.
An Italian Battleship (str 8) is spotted off the eastern side of Gibraltar entering the Med.

German forces gather at the gates of Carlisle.

Allied Turn
Rain & Mud in England. Storms in the Atlantic. Clear in the South Atlantic.

Carlisle is abandoned as the defending Corps moves northward.

El Alamein is also abandoned.

HMS Sheffield (CL) finds the repaired Scharnhorst on the Egyptian Convoy line southwest of Santa Cruz.
The Sheffield takes a heavy blow (5 dmg), but manages a hit (2 dmg) of her own against the Battle Cruiser.
HMS Ark Royal's swordfish strike Scharnhorst twice for 7 dmg, while the air wing suffers 2 dmg in the fighting.
Scharnhorst limps to the southwest but is chased down and sunk by HMS Malaya (BB).

HMCS Assiniboine finds U30 (str 8, lvl 1, 1 exp) northwest of Ireland. Both Destroyer and Sub miss each other in the stormy weather.
HMS Jersey coming to help Assiniboine finds U35 (str 8, lvl 1) north of U30. Both miss each other.

43 MPP raided on the Egyptian and Canadian Convoy lines.

Sandstorms spotted moving in on Egypt. Unknown weather in England.

You're right. Somehow my mind equated Pocket Battleship with Battle Cruiser.

The Pocket Battleships were really just Heavy Cruisers (variants? perhaps).

I modded my own private scenario with a ship in between heavy cruisers and battlecruisers (defense of the former, offense of the latter-the Graf Spee had the same guns as the Sisters, albeit 6 vs. 9).

Allied Turn April 4, 1941

Previous Axis Turn:
Rain in England. Clear in the Atlantic.

A German Panzer (str 6) Grenadier moves next to Alexandria and attacks the Garrison twice, doing 2 damage and taking 1 back.

The Germans push up into Scotland, with an Army (str 7) now south east of Edinburgh which is defended by a UK Army.
The strong German Panzer (str 10, 2 exp), bumps into the UK Corps that left Carlisle along the road 2 hexes to the northwest.

In the Atlantic to the northwest of Ireland there is plenty of action and blood in the water.
The RM Eugenio di Savoia (CL) is surprised by HMS Parthian and takes 5 damage while doing 1 back to the sub.
Four U-boats attack HMS Jersey and sink the destroyer.
Jersey goes down fighting to the last doing large amounts of damage to each U boat that attacks her, particularly to the last sub which thought it would have an easy kill with Jersey at str 1:
Damages to each of the 4 subs: 4 dmg, 3 dmg, 2 dmg, and 5 dmg. The last was an 8 strength sub now at 3.
That last sub (U30) then moved to the north and encounters HMS Glasgow (CL) and HMS Amazon (DD). Amazon does another point of damage to U30.

The US is alarmed at Axis gains in Egypt (+6%, so on the bottom side of the swing barely makes up for the loss mobilization of Yugo being conquered, not to mention the still neutral Netherlands)

With no Coup, Yugoslavia joins the Axis.

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in the Atlantic. Clear in the South Atlantic.

Churchill grudgingly declines Roosevelt's offer of Tanks for Egypt.

HMS Parthian (str 9) sinks RM Eugenio di Savoia (str 5), before the light cruiser can get away.
HMS Amazon sinks U30 (str 2) with a well placed depth charge (odds predictions were 1:1, but we are talking about a full strength DD vs a 2 strength sub. I'm just glad it didn't dive).

UK Tactical bombers strike the 14th German Army (str 7, 1 exp) southeast of Edinburgh. Spitfire escorts engage the intercepting German fighters north of Liverpool:
UK FTR -2 dmg, UK TAC -3 dmg, GE FTR -2 dmg, GE Army -2 dmg.
The UK's 11th Army in Edinburgh forgoes attacking the German 14th Army due to bad combat predictions.*
The last vestiges of spare anti aircraft equipment are scrounged together in Edinburgh.

HMS Formidable and Glorious each launch a strike at a sub, that almost assuredly took part in the sinking of HMS Jersey, that was within range of their scouts. Both times the sub escaped via emergency dive.
HMS Courageous has similar results against another sub that was within scout plane range as well.
HMS Montgomery closes in on the 4th sub (U73, str 8, level 1) who was caught broadcasting with an out of date enigma code, but only manages to force yet another dive.

The damaged HMS Suffolk (CA, str 5) making it's way to Canada well to the south of the convoy lines is surprised by Bismarck. The German Battleship splits Suffolk in two with her big 15 inch guns.
HMS Suffolk does manage to land a lucky blow with one her own 8 inch guns, doing 2 damage to the Battleship.
HMS Salmon (str 11, 2 exp) then sneaks in from the south and puts 2 torpedoes into Bismarck for 3 damage and chases the Battleship eastward.
HMS Illustrious launches a single strike of Swordfish and Bismarck takes too much damage to be saved. A noticeable number of the biplanes fail to return (2 dmg to the air wing).
The great Battleship's stern starts sinking into the water, slowly at first and gradually more quickly.
As the stern sinks the bow rises until eventually the great ship stands nearly vertical for a brief time before slipping under the waves forever.

The Indian Corps and the Desert Rats (Recon, 5 str) move next to Baghdad.

The Danish Ambassador allows US troops into Greenland.

The Convoy lines are clean, Freighter captains are thankful for the respite.

--------
* UK Army (str 10, supply 10, Morale 93, Readiness 87, Adjusted HA = 3) vs. GE Army (str 5, 1 exp, Supply 1, Morale 37, Readiness 66, Adjusted HD = 2)... Combat prediction: 2:1.
This just makes me cry. I know the defender is in the mountains but he has 0 entrenchment.

Allied Turn April 26, 1941

Previous Axis Turn:
Rain in England. Clear in the Atlantic.

The German 14th Army outside of Edinburgh is reinforced back to a 7 strength.
The elite German 4th Panzer Corps (str 10, 2 exp) attacks the Polish Corps in the mountains south of Glasgow twice.
The Poles rebuff the Panzers with no losses, while the Panzers take a single point of damage.

In the Atlantic the Prinz Eugen (CA str 10, lvl 1), perhaps looking for the Royal Navy carriers, stumbles into HMS King George V (BB str 10, lvl 1) north of the convoy lines.
Prinz Euguen takes 6 damage while King George V takes 3. Prinz Euguen is then seen fleeing to the north.
A U boat approaching from the east or southeast encounters HMS Southampton and backs away without combat.

A Panzer Grenadier (str 5) takes 1 damage while destroying an Egyptian Garrison in Alexandria.
A Panzer takes 1 damage while destroying the other Egyptian Garrison in Cairo.
Rommel's Recon unit moves towards the port of Suez and engages with a UK Corps waiting to board transports. Both the Recon and the Corps take 1 dmg.

Egypt Surrenders.
The UK Anti Tank unit (str 5) is caught out of supply, 1 hex west of El Arish.*
UK morale sinks some more.
German and Italian morale continue upward.
Franco is impressed by the Axis success in Egypt (+11%)
German/Italian diplomats use the capture of Cairo to expound on Franco's leanings (+9% diplo hit).

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Storms in the Atlantic. Clear in the South Atlantic.

The Kiwi Corps bugs out of Suez.
The half strength AT moves into El Arish and sets up for it's likely last stand.

HMS Glasgow (CL str 10) finds Prinz Euguen (CA str 4 lvl 1) and does 2 damage to her while taking 1 back.
HMS King George 5 (BB str 7, lvl 1) then finishes off Prinz Euguen, but takes 1 damage in the exchange.

The Iraqi government collapses and the flow of oil is reestablished. At least temporarily.

12 MPP are lost to Axis raiders on the newly reestablished Iraqi convoy line.

--------
* Didn't think he'd get Cairo that turn due to supply lengths. I could have left the AT just north of Cairo.

Didn't think about it that way, but I still probably would have turned them down.

Ask me again why at the end of the game year and I'll explain.

Allied Turn May 18, 1941

Previous Axis Turn:
Clear in England.

The half strength AT unit in El Arish is destroyed with ease.
A German Recon makes it just short of Jerusalem, while a Panzer is observed in Gaza.

German air power destroys Alexander's HQ in Glasgow.
In the fighting 2 German Fighters and 2 Medium Bombers take 1 hit each. Both the German and Italian Maritime Bombers take 2 hits each. The Maritime Bombers were absorbing AA fire and scouting.
Paratroopers land splitting Glasgow from Edinburgh and separate an AA (str 4) and a Corps (str 6, damaged from Panzer attack) from any supply source. The Germans took no damage to any land units in the fighting.
Casualties to the UK fighters were excessive (11 damage over 2 fighters).*

The convoy lines to the UK are now completely cut off.**

Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in the Atlantic.

10th Army in Jerusalem is reinforced.

In Scotland the decision is made to fight to the bitter end.

--------
*In part due to the bug I reported about HQ range/attachment.

**Is there a reason they couldn't go to Cromarty?
