With the patch, the editor is now looking at \Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War IV\Scenarios folder, rather than \My Games\etc etc.

This applies for opening, and also for saving - no matter where you opened a scenario from. You need to manually browse to the correct folder each time you want to open or save.

I don't see any way of changing this - or is there something in a config file? It's very annoying.

Edit: Don't waste time reading my posts here, he clearly said it is an issue with the patch and I don't have the patch so what I say here has no bearing

It used to be stuck on the last folder opened in the game. No matter how many times you saved in the Editor, it would always default to that folder. In the video I did for TOAW III on the Editor, I described this and how you needed to first open the scenario you were editing in the Game, then close that and open it in the Editor in order to have it point to the proper default save folder.
That has now been changed to default to the last folder opened/saved to, which means that you will get the behavior that you mention, but after you save in the Editor the first time, it will then default to that same folder. So it is hopefully less 'annoying' than it had been in previous versions.

It is function exactly as it has since at least TOAWIII, just took a look. It goes to the folder you last had open in the game, not in the editor. When opening a scenario in the Editor the scenarios that are shown when clicking File/Open Scenario is always the last folder you opened a scenrio from in the game. Never the last folder you looked at in the Editor. So yes, when in the Editor you have to navigate to the proper folder if it is not the same one you last had open in the game.

Doesn't work that way for me - remains stuck on the \Matrix Games\etc etc folder. This path is also embedded in the toaw.cfg file & doesn't change.

Again, that's not the way it's working for me, after the patch. What you say is how it worked for me before the patch.

Well, Steam has its issues, and I don't have it so I thought maybe that was the difference. The thing is, there is no Scenarios folder in Program Files ..., the Scenarios folder is only in Documents/My Games ... So you have me lost.

Too weird - I certainly have a Scenarios folder there, with all the "official" scenarios. The date stamps show that it & its contents were created when I ran the patch .exe ...

Ok, I am confused because I had typed up an 'issue ticket' to post in Development about this issue as I noticed it over the past few months, and now I can't reproduce it. So maybe it changed again ? Whatever the case, it is giving me a headache

I get new folders for Scenarios, Graphics Overrides, Languages and Uninstall. Strange! Thanks for taking a look - it's not a dealbreaker.

Maybe it depends where you run the patch .exe - I did it from the Matrix Games folder ...

Steam version works fine for me. It's not garbage at all. Of course if you want people who use Steam to not buy TOAW at all then sure, keep calling it garbage. There is one difference between the Steam version and the non Steam version. In Steam all the folders are almost exactly like they were in TOAWIII except for Saves and now Alt Graphics is called Graphics Override. TOAWIII and the newest version of TOAWIV are different in how they look for files. "the scenarios and the related files can all be located in one directory instead of requiring parts to be in the Graphics or AltGraphics directory." Not sure if that is mentioned in the What's New doc. If not it needs to be.

This is contradictory to the release version of IV [and other games that I am aware of]. You like Steam, I don't, we have our opinions and that is fine. I will not defend a third party middle man software program that skims $$$ from consumers for no reason. Steam does nothing that Matrix can't do [but apparently doesn't]. That's on them, not consumers.

All we hear about is how TOAW IV is constantly compromised due to limited coding time, yet this precious coding time was spent on catering to Steamers who have yet to show me what they want it for, other than they are lazy in keeping track of their game files. Don't argue with me, give me proof of value. Explain what it can do for me that justifies the effort of TOAW Development that is direly needed elsewhere. TOAW has knows bugs/issues that have been around for years, yet work on these had to stop in order to accommodate Steamers. This is a serious affront to me and it should be to others.

Same with JSGME or whatever it is called. No reason for it, never had it, never seen a need for it. Yet both Steam and JSGME raise many posts on these forums concerning how to use these unnecessary programs.

Learn how to use what you have. No need to add more confusion [and wasted effort] to your life.

Subscribe to a scenario and don't have to worry about what to put where which is a problem that crops up time and again. Auto update so you don't have to worry about what goes where which is a problem that crops up time and again. So if the same question has to be answered time and again, year after year after year, where is the wasted time?

That little line is about TOAWIV Steam or non Steam.

In any event, to get back on topic, I don't understand why the OP has a problem different from other people who are running the same thing so I'm outta here. Adieu.

Anyway, deleting toaw.cfg seems to fix this.
