One thing to keep in mind, we are using the settings that GP posted for his original release. So that means that there are no unit withdrawals. So none of the ships that normally go somewhere else have to go, I get to keep them.

The 37 Zeros due to flak losses were mostly because he didn't change the settings for them strafing at PH. I always make it a mental note to change those settings as I don't want lose 1/3rd of the KB fighters over PH on the first day. I would say your ship loses were heavy and all four sunk BBs succumbed to 800 bombs rather than the real killers of the BBS, except AZ which were the torpedoes. Your loses in cruisers and DD/DMs were higher than historic but you mentioned your aircraft loses were far lighter.

Just stopping in while sipping some joe and enjoying Memorial Day. Best of luck here. Those ship losses would
horrify me in stock, he even took a chunk out of the destroyer flotilla. Those guys are golden to me for the first
year. I do not religiously follow IJ AARs but will look in now and again to see what's what with the mod.

Hi Zulu, I know that everyone things I lost a bunch of ships, but given the mod I don't think it is that bad. I do get
a number additional DD with this mod. I get 35 Canadian DDs, 24 French, I think I get 4 more British DDs to start.
I will lose more ships as this ominous picture shows.

The Dec 8, 1941 turn is away. Everything done was for Logistic and defense needs. Started a ton of ships to locations to prepare to bring men, supply, and fuel to the front.
Started a lot of fortification building.

He only landed at Kota Bharu, Miri, and Batan Island. I see no TFs that went beyond what a stock opening would do.

Your AAR isn't disjointed. :)

Besides, my effort from the start was to disjoint it through intentional tangential conversational interjections.

The losses look steep, but I have zero knowledge of this mod. I guess this is the first screenies or AAR I've read involving Focus Pacific.

Good luck!

The R-Class and QE-Class BBs that you get to keep now should help make up for those BB losses at PH. Does Scenario 78 still have the 2 Lexington-Class BCs?

The French DD squadron at Kwang-Chou-Wan can raise cain with Japanese shipping if it is not dealt with early, though IIRC, the naval base cannot resupply torpedoes unless it is expanded above its port size rating.

Really looking forward to seeing how this AAR turns out!

I have plenty of BBs in this mod, here is a list. I get 61 BB/BCs in the game and I have lost 4 so far.
Note also that 5 of these are Iowa Build hulls that probably will be built as CVs, so I am down to only 52 BB/BCs

61 BB/BCs? There aren't that many US states/territories. The rulebook clearly says you can't build it if it would break the naming standard.

I have the replay for 8 Dec 1941, there are some bad things and some good things.

The bad.

CV Lexington took 2 torpedoes from an RO sub. No ammo or fuel explosions reported, so it may not sink.
-------------------
As expected, a number of ships were sunk, mostly the ones from the French base Kwangchowan. He starts with some
Vals and Mabels at Samah, so it is hard to get the transport out and some of the DDs were slowed by damage from
Dec 7 raid. I think some from Hong Kong also were sunk, again it is hard to get transports through the gauntlet.
----------------
The British DDs did not fare well, they encounted a TF with a CA and CL with DDs. Out gunned in the daylight, they
took a beating. I think two of them were sunk and the other badly damaged. They did manage to heavily damage a DD.
---------------
Kwangchoowan took 4 air sweeps. It appears that the French did not do well. I lost 17 and he lost 2.
-----------------
Lahina was hit again, he hit the AP Etolin. She had 21 fires from yesterdays raid, so I didn't think she would survie anyway.
She probaly went down.
---------------------------
the good :

Day Time Surface Combat, near Cam Ranh Bay at 66,77, Range 18,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
PB Kantori Maru, Shell hits 7, and is sunk
xAK Hakubasan Maru, Shell hits 18, and is sunk
AKL Haguro Maru, Shell hits 10, and is sunk

Allied Ships
DD Desaix
DD Le Casque, Shell hits 2

Japanese ground losses:
1075 casualties reported
Squads: 16 destroyed, 15 disabled
Non Combat: 34 destroyed, 38 disabled
Engineers: 4 destroyed, 9 disabled
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More good, the beasts strike from Manila:
Afternoon Air attack on TF, near San Fernando at 79,73

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid spotted at 19 NM, estimated altitude 6,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 12 minutes

Allied aircraft
Vildebeest III x 8

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
DD Inazuma, Torpedo hits 1, heavy damage
DD Ikazuchi

Aircraft Attacking:
8 x Vildebeest III launching torpedoes at 200 feet
Naval Attack: 1 x 18in Mk XII Torpedo
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blenheims actually hit something:
Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Prachuap Khiri Khan at 54,66

Weather in hex: Severe storms

Raid detected at 16 NM, estimated altitude 11,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 5 minutes

Allied aircraft
Blenheim I x 6

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
xAK Kyokko Maru, Bomb hits 1

Japanese ground losses:
15 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Aircraft Attacking:
6 x Blenheim I bombing from 6000 feet
Naval Attack: 4 x 250 lb SAP Bomb
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I do have dive bombers at Midway:
Morning Air attack on TF, near Midway Island at 161,85

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid spotted at 12 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 5 minutes

Allied aircraft
SB2U-3 Vindicator x 16

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
AO Shiriya, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage
DD Ushio, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires

Aircraft Attacking:
8 x SB2U-3 Vindicator releasing from 3000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb
8 x SB2U-3 Vindicator releasing from 4000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb

Heavy smoke from fires obscuring AO Shiriya
Massive explosion on DD Ushio
Heavy smoke from fires obscuring DD Ushio
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He took Miri but was unsuccessful at Kota Bharu, getting a 1 to 1. but I did suffer extreme losses.

He did not land at any new bases.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

He hit the Airfield at Pearl Harbor, with not good results:
Afternoon Air attack on Pearl Harbor , at 180,107

Weather in hex: Light rain

Raid detected at 54 NM, estimated altitude 17,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 20 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 73
B5N2 Kate x 25
D3A1 Val x 47

Allied aircraft
P-36A Mohawk x 28
P-40B Warhawk x 52
F2A-3 Buffalo x 11
F4F-3 Wildcat x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 6 destroyed
B5N2 Kate: 6 destroyed, 7 damaged
D3A1 Val: 10 destroyed, 23 damaged
D3A1 Val: 3 destroyed by flak

Allied aircraft losses
P-36A Mohawk: 3 destroyed
P-40B Warhawk: 4 destroyed, 2 damaged
F2A-3 Buffalo: 1 destroyed
F4F-3 Wildcat: 2 destroyed
SBD-1 Dauntless: 1 destroyed on ground

Allied Ships
DD Selfridge, and is sunk

Allied ground losses:
6 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 10

I lost another DD, but downed a number of KB aircraft. Most if not all of his pilots in those aircraft should be lost.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everything considered, this was not a bad turn for Dec 8, 1941. The torpedoes the Lex took are concerning, but this is war, things happen.

I can also convert 5 Iowa BB build hulls into Iowa CVB and 6 Alaska CB build hulls into Alaska CV
One thing to note about both of these is the armor. An Essex is 100/25/100. Only a 500Kg SAP bomb will
penetrate their deck armor. And the 800Kg GP bomb will only penetrate the Iowa Deck armor.

You don't get the two Midway class CVBs that appear after the historical end date in scenario 40?

They have 137 plane capacities, better than the Iowa conversions.

I played an early version of this with the Soviets active, but don't recall what the end date is.

Its March 31st, 1946 in scenario 40.

The end date is the 31st of March, 1946. Bruce might of removed the two midway class. But I don't know why. But I would rather have the 5 Iowa class CV's for the added number of planes and flexability plus the Alaska class....GP

This is not only Focus Pacific but Pocus as there are ships listed for the Pac that didn't even exist. Hitler must have invaded Russia only and got bogged down and didn't bother with the west.

All sides get stuff that never existed. Somewhere there is a light back story on why the Pacific became the Focus of WWII and how and why some of the new classes came to be.

Hmmm, do you also get more of Bradley's Army Group than the First Army, which appears in scenario 40?

I recall some one creating a scenario that lasted till '48 with huge transfers from Europe.

Can't recall the scenario name or number, but I couldn't get to to run.

the only scenario I know of that goes to 48 is Long Road to Toyko.

And, no, I do not get more than the 1st Army.
