I send my tanks East . Clearly the river will be defended. With all those Guards corps around it will be difficult to cross.

This is the point where you really want every armored unit waiting to attack. That is not my case as I've had to deal with Leningrad.

And since a large force is still up near there, a large number of tanks are supporting the middle.

Thus my German fist is missing a one finger.

just further North the river could be taken but my view is south and release of the 4th army group by taking Rostov area.

2 turns ago the Don was mostly undefended. Now forts are at 1.25 to 2. Looks like a tuff nut to crack and keep open.

Also getting late into the summer season

Open

russain air having field day on units in clear

Also heavy ground attacks near Kursk. Nothing major just a softening up of the area: for future Russian attacks? And annoying as units are taking a slow pounding.

Kursk is nearly overrun.

Lenigrad North is attacked but too strong against a middling attack force.

I air transfer fighters from north to south. Miles only show at 1% used.

Nice.

This set up is where one learns how to group power for concentrated attack.

So far it's feel like a b-

Millage on tanks not all full. I have OKH, ags and agc in area.

OKH will soon leader per recommendation. Even though it's not clear to me that OKH Morale HQ checks have no map limit? When did that happen.

This attack toward Rostov reveals a 11 CV on far bank. Can I cross and can I move a side hex. Otherwise very tight. I really don't want to have good units chopped up and sent back over the river.

plus its a 28mp to do a cross major river attack for armor.

Not enough good infantry in this area. They have been sent more east toward Stalingrad.

Lineup for the cross major river attack:

Odds do not seem great but this is the turns best chance. The spot taken offers better advantages than the 11cv hex

See 11.3.2 in the manual. AFAIK it has always been like that.

Also morale does not suffer a penalty for too many units assigned to the HQ (e.g. AGS) - but the original manual never made that clear.

The cross river attack is denied.

Massive number of Russian fighter's come forth to swarm the river line. Like shooting ducks in the pond.

Hard fought. I should have attached more engineers. I think too many are near Leningrad.

I also then attack the cv11 hex and also fail to cross.

Which leads to "what the heck do I do and in which direction" oh and also 'don't step into a mess"

Then I have to worry about the Russian blob building behind Kursk. I think he has his tank force there.

This must be stabilized. I think he has been lightly pushing in an annoying method leaving weak units for me to have to push back. Meanwhile everyone gets bombed. And not in a good way.

Final Orel area. I leave room for Russians and resume Fort positions.

Some tanks have moved into the area for moral support

Final North Stalingrad. I can't push all the way to cover the whole Don so I hold back waiting.

Final South

The 11th Army is just not that strong having been in heavy action. I approach the Don but can't reveal where my next blow may come.

A little frustrating as I think I could actually be stymied here.

leaving that hole by Bryansk will be a bad decision if he has even one tank corps there....as he can get through and clear your HQ and forts from the screen shot you posted...you don't even have a proper Zoc lock defend on the hole. That HQ is asking to be displaced with no defending unit stationed with it....and then that weakens the defense of that entire corps sector since they will lose support and most likely be outside 5 hexes for commander rolls if its displaced before they are attacked.

Wow. he has all these tank units near Rostov surely in reserve mode to deny any river crossing over don. You have already destroyed 6.2 million of his army. And its nearly September and too late for Baku. It would be no shame to start preparing the defense and rebuilding your panzer armies. Maybe just few attacks here and there to rout full stacks and drain his truck pool that way.

I don't believe he is ready for that thrust. I have tanks on the flanks. I would cut off any deep move. This holds for only the next 2 turns. Clearly I need to reinforce over here. And thus need Leningrad taken asap.

south open

Heavy russian turn.

ground attacks repeat near Kursk. Will need to plug. Also numerous partisan rr cuts

I examine if I could move tanks north and cut off this Kursk area.

Seems like a minimum 2 turns to set up and clearly would cripple attacks over the Don. And i'm sure they would be spotted.

Hyla does not sit on the Don instead moves units west into the Don bend. Also denying the river line with counterattacks also in Don bend area, west of Stalingrad.

I said hq changes were coming and in nice OKH planning Guderian is freed up for free.

I put Kluge as head of OKH, and Guderian moves to AGS.
