Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Axis #1. End Impulse.

The Eastern Front. Though Reich production is off the charts, their armed forces are spread from East Europe to West Europe to the Middle East. And on the Eastern Front, Army Group North is practically encircled and Army Group South in the Caucuses have brittle supply lines and are practically encircled themselves.

The units the Russians need in 1944 is their Artillery, particularly the self-propelled types. The ability to execute a Ground Strike, without using an air mission for that or to ‘re-base’, as well as being re-org’d for one point in a land impulse, is all priceless in a rolling mobile offensive. Operation Bagration is only 3 turns away. The historical Hitlerites never recovered.
Unfortunately, Uncle Joe has neglected to gear up and build his artillery. He's been so focused on building up his army masses that he's completely overlooked artillery.

I notice Chiang has made the same mistake. The Chinese need their artillery!

How many Medals of Honor were given out to the 4th division? That was a decided American victory.

The damaged Japanese submarine should not have subjected itself to being destroyed. 2CPs for a damaged submarine is in Japans favor. 2CPs for a sunk submarine is in the US's favor.

I hope that US/CW forces are building up in England.

I think the 4th was trying to uphold the honor of the Regular Army (somewhat a pre-war division) after the performance of the newfangled Paratroopers and the New England National Guard divisions holding off a Panzer Army Group over at the other end of the Med.

Teddy Roosevelt Jr was surely a 10-3 leader counter in that battle.

They are. The plan is for a "traditional" time for landing in Western France. Except this landing might be on the Atlantic coast.

Yes, I think he was. Last fall I read a book about the 4th titled, "Red Platoon" by Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha, Medal of Honor Recipient. Staff Sgt. Ty Carter also received the Medal of Honor for the same battle covered in the book. Red Platoon was one of three platoons (Red, White and Blue) in a cavalry troop defending the most remote US outpost in Afghanistan (Combat Outpost Keaton). They were attacked and almost overran by over 400 Taliban fighters and not for the heroics of the men of Red Platoon would have been overrun and destroyed (i.e., killed). I highly recommend the book.

Also, even in the heat of desperate combat there's funny moments (I guess). Romesha relays a story about one of the troop members using the Vietnam slang, "Charlie in the Wire" when the Taliban breached the camp walls. That got a chuckle form Romesha and others (even) at that time.

Wow, the Turks just blew a wide open hole in their own front line for the Allies to exploit, linking up with their out-of-supply forces that have encircled the Germans.

Spain is surely looking at how things have turned out for Turkey and not regretting staying neutral.

On a different Turkish shore, but sort of like Gallipoli in reverse.

The Pacific. USN/ARN. Bismarck Sea (2/2). Four massive USN task forces out in the Bismarck Sea including two invasion ones.

A mix up in orders has Adm Nimitz and King fuming! The 2nd Mar div was supposed to have loaded on the CA Augusta and NOT the BB Missouri!

China. End of Impulse. With the damage done by the USN to Japanese supply lines at sea, the Nationalist and communist Chinese "push" all out to cut or stretch Japanese supply line on land.

USSR (2/2). End of Impulse. Except for an attempted ground strike that missed badly, the Soviets decided to forgo any land combats. With the Red Army "pouring" through the axis lines, the last thing the Soviets wanted was a bad land combat result to flip a large number of units, especially HQ's.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Axis #5.

Actions. Japan. Japan would have like to take a combine in order to replace some of the lost CP's in the China Sea and Japanese Coast, but the situation in China dictated a land option. The odds are 90% that the axis will get another impulse this turn and Japan will get the opportunity to get those CP's out to sea.

Actions. Euro-Axis. Germany - land. Italy - land.

German Naval Air. Black Sea.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Axis #5.

Euro-Axis. Eastern Front. End of Impulse (no combat). Getting complete zone-of-control locks on the Soviet cavalry corps in the woods just east of the Pripet marshes was a major PIA! It literally took an army to corral and contain this weak cavalry corps.

The Finns are another area of frustration for OKH. Well, it's their refusal to move further east and secure Volgograd and to help secure Army Group North's northern flank. Editors note. Truthfully, I just forgot to move them but it retro-spec I do feel this is historical and have decided to let Finnish refusal to move too far from Finland stand.

In Georgia and the Caucuses, Army Group South is moving at flank speed with the intention of link up with elements of Army Group Center.

Also it's worth noting that there are two encircled German armies. The first is in the north at/near Gorki and includes Rommel and his HQ-A. The second is a little bit south in/adjacent to Razan.
