It is intended, that Verdun be unsiegeble? I have cut it off, and surrounded it by 4 corps, and it never seems degrades the way that the manual says besieged resources should, no matter how many turns of it cut off and surrounded by more than 2 units? Units in Verdun cannot ever be out of supply no matter what? Is this a bug?

All the fortresses are "secondary supply" sources, so I'm pretty sure it's intended.

I had the most success with advancing the line beyond Verdun and besieging it with about 4 Units, taking it later.

It probably is intended. It took about 5 months to besiege Przemysl in WWI. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Przemy%C5%9Bl Interesting fact in this article is that there were airmail deliveries into and out of the fortress while it was under siege!

I think you can try to bomb the fortress to reduce its supply value and artillery will help you reduce the entrenchment value.

Advanced artillery will crack it I've found.

There are exceptions to the besieged resources rule, and Major Fortresses are one of the resources that are exempt to it.

I've taken Verdun; I've seen the AI take Verdun. Artillery plus multiple attacks.

Playing as the CP, I've taken Antwerp, Verdun, Toul, Epinal, and Belfort.

Way to take Verdun, research artillery level one, once reached bombard it with an artillery fully supplied (10 shells) don't forget to recon the terrain with a bomber before executing the bombardment.
Attack with ground units, the French don't stand a chance...

My experience exactly.

Once you get upgraded artillery, you can take virtually any hex, as can the AI. The key is having reserves in place to counterattack and retake the hex.

I try to place my reserves behind hexes attack-able on three sides. It's harder to make a two hex attack, and when you advance, even if you have a fresh unit with sufficient APs to advance and entrench, it's going to get hit from four sides, one of them inevitably un-entrenched.

I have taken Verdun, not even with advanced arti, but by first surrounding, once cut off it was taken in 3 turns using layered attacking corps from multiple sides.
Won’t say it did not take a major effort
