Status: offline 		As the allies I am training my pilots but can not seem to find a way to rotate the pilots out of the squadrons? Where is the mechanic for this? I have looked and looked and can not seem to find the wat except to disband the squadron.

The trick is not send them to "group", but to "reserve".

Status: offline 		First you need to make sure the squadron has more than the number of in brackets next to the squadron name. For example if it is 25 then max it out to 33. Always import from replacement if it is a training squadron. Then select the pilot you want transfer and send to group reseve, name will gery out. Click again (left click i think) and then send to general reserve. Make a note of the name. Then go to squadron you want to send pilot too, select add veteran (if i recall correctly) look for pilots name and click. there will be a delay to simulate travel time before pilot becomes active on the roster.

Perhaps. If the squadron is training fighter pilots and all you want them to learn is escort/sweep, you should draw from replacements (unless you have another holding group, I use transports for pre-fighter training, so I draw from Transport Reserve first). If you're training for torpedo naval attack, you might want to draw from trainees who are already well trained in naval search, dropping bombs on ships or ASW. Drawing from raw recruits should be your last resort (unless you're using transports to do general training, or fighter pilots who don't need training in bombing skills, etc.).

Status: offline 		Another thing, someone recently commented that they visit their training squadrons once a month to graduate pilots and order replacement trainees. Doing this means trainees you order from Reserves who have a maximum lead time of "7" will sit there doing nothing for 3 weeks before you get around to making them active in the training squadron. I do my best to visit every training squadron once a week. I divide the map up into regions and then visit every training squadron in one region each turn. For instance, the Home Islands west of Osaka (inclusive) is a region, the region east of there is another, Hokkaido and Manchukuo is another, and so forth.

I use skill specific sqaudrons as training squadrons, ie fighter squadrons to train fighters, bombers airfield/ground attack etc. The one difference is the USN training programme that allows torpedo training on float planes. But yes either way is fine.

I do the once a month view, however this is dependant on the needs of the service. If the current pool of a certain type of pilot is low then ofcourse I look into training squadrons and expedite the route pilots take from trainers to front line postings. Noramlly the USN/USMC squadrons get looked at once a week as the pool is smaller than the USAAF, well at least at the start of the game.

Status: offline 		Group reserve is used to keep the pilots in the squadron but not using them on the missions. Useful for the rookies in China to build up their stats while the more seasoned veterans are at the base drinking saki. This helps the rookies gain skills faster since they are in combat yet the veterans are still there to keep the group experience and averages up. This would also help rest fatigued pilots yet keep them in the group.

Status: offline 		Good stuff, I train all the land locked US and Australian air groups. I take the top 10 every few weeks, mostly fighter pilots but some bombers. I train escort mostly because in 1942 the experience is bad for fighter pilots. My bombers and dive bombers do ok. Also LA float planes train tons of naval bomber pilots.

Status: offline 		Oh I also move a couple of Fighter groups from China to Burma and generally two bomber groups to bomb ground units moving into burma they train well.
