I downloaded and installed the hotfix (Game shows 1.06.01 in lower right) but since doing so have had very poor luck in being able to open, play, and send moves on existing games I get Communication Error 4 or 5) or even to resign (Got a Download Error 7).

Any suggestions?

If this was today I believe there might have been some testing of the PBEM++ server for the new updates we are working on for the game. Can you try again and let us know if it is stable now?

Nope, error occurring again. very frustrating to spend a half hour moving and then having it vanish when I try to upload!

Glad to hear it is working again :)

To clarify, I don't actually have any meaningful access to the server in a technical sense, this is all the Matrix side of things and my guess on what might have been the issue was just that a guess, e.g. if they were possibly testing things with the new patch.

Off hand I don't really know if they were or it had any effect on what you were experiencing, but since this is the only report of possible issues, my other other thought is that perhaps it is a connection issue on your end.

I just suggest that as usually the only change they might make to the PBEM++ server when testing a new patch is to change the client connection number/value, e.g. the message you'll see when you are playing with the wrong version requiring you to upgrade to the latest patch, but with the error messages you reported, it would on second thought, be more likely a general connection issue more than anything else.

If this is possibly the case, what I would suggest is perhaps trying to save your turns in progress every once in a while to the PBEM++ server so that your moves are not lost when you then click on End Turn, e.g. worst case some of your last moves will have been saved and therefore recoverable.

I also find that these types of connection issues are only temporary and your internet service provider eventually resolves them after they sort whatever the issues are out.
