It was taking long for this type of comments again...
Emotive? For who? You? Perhaps you didnt like the "One of the largest and most powerful armies in the world" or maybe it was the "Some of its drills still impress and amaze with their scope and scale"?
Maybe this one here: "One of the largest and most impressive drills in world history, Zapad-81"?

Refrain from your polical views, please. I am posting here, I hope, interesting pieces of historical materials about Cold War period (period of our beloved Flashpoint game, of course) from some other sources, sice most of the military literature on the subject is American, at least for us living in the western world. And I am ok with that. I have a huge respect and admiration for the US armed forces and its history. It is just interesting, sometimes, to try to find different perspectives. As I am a big fan of russian hardware, I always try to find as much as posible interesting videos, images and documentaries from Russia. There are lots of interesting materials available if you search. As in any other place in this planet there are also lots of garbage circulating around.
I have just read again this interesting historical publication from Russia Beyond and honestly I didnt see any more bias that I would find in any US military literature describing some american military event of the past. So, you miss your point.
Every media coverage has its agenda at some degree. Some more evident, some others less...we can chat about that at another forum, more appropriate for this kind of discussion.
