air units in the west have the option to train with modest resource use, rest & refit with minimal resource use, and fight the WITW AI once the allied bombing campaign starts to protect factories. If the allies take a blood nose from strong fighters presence in the west, allied bombing of factories would be delayed until losses are made good. The Germans have limited resources and play fire brigade moving assets to stabilize one front at the expense on another.

Being able to manage the fighter/bomber pool with some options would be nice (training/transfer etc)...

WiTE2 has the concept of Theatre boxes (see Joel and Red Lancer's posts in this thread) to capture the rest of the war. Some of these are passive, such as the Soviet commitment to the Far East, others model the largely static low intensity wars such as in Finland or the partisan war.

The war between Germany and the W Allies is in a few boxes and one holds the strategic airwar (& the post June 44 Allied offensives).

You can leave these off, and then historical transfers of assets will take place and, mostly, the wider war will proceed as historical - there is a random element and if you start to take really heavy losses vs the Soviets that will leave less replacements for the West. Alternatively, you can actively manage these, choosing what to send/draw back and when.

Personally I’d wait for WITE to go on sale, you just missed some 30-60% off deals or just wait for WITE2 it’s much better than the first by far.

I bought mine 1 year ago full price, and the cost per play hour is now somewhere under 10 cents and goes ever shrinking!!! lol!

I concur, if you are going to play the game you can easily get your moneys worth many times over before WITE2 comes out.

Well, we'd obviously love it if you were to pay full price now and then decide to pay full price at some point for WitE2. There are sales that happen so if you are willing to wait you can get WitE at a discount. Morvael and Denniss have done an amazing job updating WitE over the years, so there's a lot of play time and enjoyment to be found in WitE. We think WitE2 will be something that will also provide a lot of play time and good value for the money, but they don't have to be exclusive of each other. There is a lot to learn and explore in WitE, and much of your experience with it will carry over into WitE2. Tyronec is one of our most experienced WitE2 testers (in fact he's created the first turn AI scripts for many of our scenarios), and I agree with him on this.

Just came across a recent thread on rail repair. Question: is there rail repair in WitE 2.0 ? And if so, will it be partially "automatic" ? In the current (?) version Axis may see rail repair in Kurland in 1941 while you desperately would need rail repair upfront or as collaterals connecting your main lines.

Yes, rail repair in WitE2 is more or less the same as in WitE, you have FBDs that you manually use to repair rail lines and there ia automatic raill repair happening too.

Ok. But don't you thinks that the way automatic RR works is ineffective ? RR doesn't take place where the axis in 41 really needs it.

You have the FBDs to help you with the main lines. Automatic RR is not meant to be a replacment for it, it is simply secondary/complementary repair. I think the system is fine the way it currently is.

There is a way to control some automatic by using your security RHG HQ's. Put 3-4 construction units in them and place them on important rail branches you wish to repair in priority. And you can do the same with unused infantry corps if some are available, which is rare for the germans but happens with the rumanians.

You can also use your army HQ's in the same way. For the army HQ's, you must be aware of the number of construction SU's it can hold without them being automatically sent to their subordinate corps HQ's (see updated manual article 7.7.3.3).

And you also need to be aware that the permanent support levels of 7.7.3.3 apply only to the off-map construction units assigned to an HQ's, those already working on the rails don't count. So by example 4th army can have 3 units listed in its assigned list (in the HQ's unit window) and 3 more working on rails, so a total of 6 in its OOB, but won't send down any construction SU to it's subordinated corps because it only has 3 off-map.

Another thing to be aware is that construction units affected to an HQ will be sent to repair rail up to the max command range of the HQ. So as you bring your HQ's forward, the rail repair happens more and more to the east. My own preference is to use Army Groups more than OKH to host construction units.

Thanks to both of you. I am a long time WitE player and I know what can be done with FBD's and constr units.
Still, I feel that any decent railway manager would prioritize distribution of available resources. So again: sending constr units in 41 to places where the are least needed doesn't make sense to me. My hope was that this RR gets some overhaul in WitE 2.0

I wrote a long post about automating the whole RR and indeed getting rid of the FBDs as unit counters from the map of the game in the developers forums. I think players should be able to set priority routes and change them when they want to, but then otherwise not have to do anything for those priority rails to b repaired every turn. But I think it is fair to say it is just not a priority for development for the game.

Yes, I agree with both of you, priority routes would be great and one thing less to think about.

But at the same time, it can be argued that historically not all rail repairs were done with the military operations in mind. Once the main ressources were commited to repairing behind the panzers paths, many other areas would need rail for many reasons. So not always in the full control of the military leaders.

And honestly, I don't see it as much of a problem once you know how to deal with it. But it again separates the casual from the dedicated as many other things in this game do.

well, given the way that rails and freight and the wider logistics system intersect in WiTE2 this would be more problematic than it appears at first sight. Its not only utterly different to WiTE1 but it has significantly diverged from WiTW.

Frankly I do hope for one also.

We are officially at Q2 and considering the Coronavirus, quarantines, home offices and so, that would be hell of a motivation boost.

Hopefully everyone understands that those of us fortunate enough to be play-testing WiTE2 are not at liberty to post screenshots as non-disclosure includes these public forums. I would imagine at some point the powers that be will pull back the curtain a little. In the meantime, just hang in there.
