Status: offline 		Also, check your Windows event log. Sometimes it will give more detailed information on the faulting process. Not nearly as good as a *.dmp file, but it can be helpful. (see - https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/597856/Using-Windows-Event-Viewer-to-debug-crashes)

For example, you should see something similar to the following:

Status: offline 		First, this is one of my favorite games. However, this Runtime error problem should be fixed by the developers. Its not a new problem and the game wasn't cheap. I see a lot of patience from players and the same responses from the devs and yet no permanent fix. I think the devs should offer a discount on future WitE 2 for those of us who have purchased the game and experience the continued frustration of a game that is unplayable.

Status: offline 		I am also getting this error after turn 2, I tried saving or end turn and it crashes. So the game is basically unplayable at the moment, is their a fix for it?

Status: offline 		Try renaming the sound folder. That combined with restarting after every save made it pretty stable for me. Also if your game is slowing down run it in Windows 8 compatibility mode.

Status: offline 		Hi.It seems i get that error. I play this game every Week for along time and still have two MP games work on. After Windowsupdate last week i get this fck Error,befor that all runs fine for Years,but now unplayable, every time then i end the Round in MP this Error come and end the Game. I try all the tips from sides before but dont help and im not willing to rename every day a foulder or something in that way. My Steam Version did not show me the Introvideo for a looong Time,i hear it but didnt see it,but the game runs fine, after windowsupdate last week i see the Video and think,hey cool it runs, but then this error come and makes me crazy. In my fault it only comes in MP and only if i klick the end turn button.

Status: offline 		Try removing your sound/video folders. My crashes also seem to come and go with windows update rounds. I end up alternating between two saves every 10 minutes (no reloads of course). I notice crashes tend to happen after aircraft activity.

I have this game two times,buy it normal for many years and buy it on sale on Steam for 2 or 3 years.My Steam Version runs with 1.11.03 and i patch the "normal" Version to 1.12.04 today for testing. I load both version today x-times and load the full campaign 41-45,then i try several times to save and it works on both version x-times,on try nr 6 or 7 games crash and go to desktop without warnings on 1.12.04. I restart game try to save and it works,as i get back to desktop i didnt move any unit or do something.This fck error makes me crazy,seems both versions can have it,i have two big campaigns in MP with 1.11.03 running and not able to play on,i cannot play 2-3hours x-times again and again and didnt know save or crash,2 days ago i play 3 hours in MP push end game and runtime error,grrr, ok try again,play 30min and think try to save and see how it works,push save and grrrr runtime error. Load game go in singleplayer,try to save and it works,load game again go in singleplayer try to save and back to desktop without error message…..very strange all.With 1.11.03 i never have problems before,only i see no start video on Steam version,but skip it and all runs nice.In mid march after a windows update i start Steam version and wonder,i see the intro video,i think cool,go to play my MP games and then i see this runtime error first time......i reinstall both version,didnt help, i reinstall all Microsoft Visuall C++ in Windows,didnt help, and play without sound i didnt try,thats no solution for me.

Status: offline 		Happened to me again with quicksave. The worst part is the game writes over previous saves BEFORE actually creating the save information. Thus, I lost my PREVIOUS quicksave and my current state, making me restart the entire turn;

Morvael: is it possible to make quicksaves sequential instead of one file only?

Status: offline 		Is there any solution available for this issue yet? I have followed the previously posted advice but still encounter the same problem. It appears to come in groups, where I may go a few hours without the issue, only to have it repeatedly for occur for a while.

Steam version, running 1.11.03. Game files are located in the regular steam place on the C drive (steam/steamapps...)

Status: offline 		I had encountered this too recently after the game running fine since I first got it (I'm running it on Steam). I tried the Beta there and did not resolve the issue. It only occurred once or twice when trying to boot up and mostly affected loading a save game or saving a game. I tried a few of the fixes such as renaming the sound folder with no success. I finally just deleted the game (making sure to delete whatever Steam leaves behind) and reinstalled and it seems to be working now under the stable build (knock on wood).

An observation: this started after I got lazy and started using the windowed X to exit out of the game straight from the map rather than exiting the "proper" way by backing out to the menu and exiting there through the menu. Is it possible doing so corrupted a file? Maybe something to consider, also may have nothing to do with it.

I'll see if this issue comes up again, but I will exit the game "properly" now and see if it comes back.

I've continued playing my 1.11.03 SP game, and haven't encountered the issue now for at least 10 turns I think. No idea why it has temporarily disappeared: The only real change I can think of is I no longer play with fort level displayed by default.

I checked the Event Viewer and there were no relevant events raised.

Renaming the sound directory does seem to have worked.

Status: offline 		Try to not run other full-screen applications concurrently. Also I find having alternating saves (or saving every ten minutes in server games) helpful. Also I tend to crash after I have air force activity. Not sure if that's just superstition or actually relevant.

Also I am running on WIndows 8 compatibility mode, not sure if that would help but seems to have lowered crashes.

Status: offline 		Facing this crash on autosave every single time I try to start a new grand campaign single player as the Soviets. Version 1.12.05.

Any further word on this issue? Alternating save every 10 minutes mitigates it but is still extremely frustrating. Just called time on a German grand campaign game in summer 43 since I keep losing moves done in an offensive, and playing again only to get different rolls gets old quickly.

Status: offline 		I'm at a loss what causes this, maybe some anti-virus software? Specific hardware? Install in specific location? Non-ASCII characters on install/save path? This never happens on my machines. I did all I could with disabling disk cache when saving. I can't help much (except adding some save rotation, but that's only a workaround, not a solution).

Status: offline 		I only run Avira Antivirus, but i did it the last 10 years without problems. I run 1.11.03 all the time without problems, for me it seems that the weekly windows patches makes often problems. I reinstall all this fck visuall C+++ drivers but the problem goes on. Thats me most wonder is,that sometimes it save and send in MP games and sometimes this error occurs. The same in Singleplayer, but there is no action it seems then you can say,hey i do this or this and the error comes. And for MP games this is total frustrating like Nez say, i have a game played for two days that i must restart 6 times, first i played 3 hours,all attacks and so on played will send him turn on server game and boom this error comes and back to desktop,grrr, restart game, open single player, try to save,error,grrr,restart go in singleplayer try to save and it go, think ok go back to my MP game play 10-15min and try to save only and it goes.Then i end the game,perhaps if i try to load directly new after save i become an error,but this was so from beginning from playing this game for years,also i restart game new load my MP game and play 10-15min try to save and error,grrr, reload game and MP game and the same **** every time,sometimes it goes sometimes error, but if you play the same **** 4 times behind with 4 different endings in the rolls……..my nerv, i have this error at normal version and with steam version,i have it two times, and i become this error with 1.12.04, i try it out for a few days with the normal version. With 1.12.05 didnt test it but i think its the same.

Status: offline 		Is it about server games? I always thought it's about locally saved games. Server games are sent via network, and it's way less stable channel of communication. Perhaps error handling for sending server games need improvement. I'm not an expert in this kind of code in C++, but I'll take a look.

Status: offline 		Locally saved games are the issue for me, haven't tried server saves. I use Avast Antivirus personally. It's added to the exceptions list so I wouldn't expect it to be an issue. The frequency is very strange: I went about 3 days last week without a single error (maybe ~12hrs of playing), yet sometimes it is on almost every other save. It is impossible to start a game as the Soviets in any scenario, as it crashes on autosave at the end of the Axis turn.

I didn't have the issue at first either, but it seemed to start after a Windows 10 feature update a couple of months back.
