Is it worth moving resources from Sumatra? I personally don't, unless empty ships are going that way anyway. Especially in Dababes, it's very inefficient to burn the fuel to move resources that far.

It seems like there's enough resources closer to the Home Islands on the map that you can still build a surplus with....am I missing something?

There are usually reasons to send empty AKs to home islands after dropping troops and supply, so I do always pick up resources with those at least, even if it's distant.....but that's it

Move the resources to Osthaven, then pick them up at Palembang. You should also have resources, fuel and oil at Medan. There is another small port with oil and fuel seems to migrate there.

I don't think it is; I don't think the math works. You burn too much fuel hauling it that far.

I can confirm that, but that's my take

If you're using the "magic highway" via Singapore, that may be different, though that doesn't always work perfectly

Here is the Math:
--An Aden-class xAK will consume about 630 fuel on a round trip from Singapore to the Home Islands. It can haul 3195 tons in DaBabes.
--Assuming you do not refuel in Home Islands...you spend 630 Fuel to haul 3195 resources, which converts to 213 supply. 630 fuel for 213 supply? That's not a good ratio
--Even if you figure it's being used in HI, that's still only 319 supply, and burned 600 additional fuel to get that....terrible
--You can make a case to use that xAK to move FUEL. It can carry 1597 fuel; basically, that turns 2327 fuel in Singapore to 1597 Fuel in the Home Islands.
--TKs will move it more efficiently, at a 10 to 1 ratio, but xAKs are better than leaving it in Singapore if you don't have enough Tanker capacity to move everything. You still come out ahead.

I don't see the case for moving resources long distances, unless it's by rail or road

I don�t think I need the resources from Sumatra, at least not yet.
Whether I need them later or not depends on how the war goes.
I�m not moving them all the way to Japan, just back to Singapore.
Ref the fuel use equation, from Singapore those Resources are picked up by merchants moving back from dropping stuff at Rangoon, so that fuel is already being burnt. There are 500k at Singapore that isn�t moving unless by ship.

Load up at Cam Rahn Bay, Haiphong, or even Hong Kong. Get those resources moving while saving fuel.

This could get interesting. 4xCM could be 4 xAKs or it could be 4xDD!
All IJN ships are on patrol with max reaction. Aikoku Maru is ordered east to either mop up the remnants if the allied ships are xAK, or help rescue survivors from Hokoku Maru if the allied ships are DDs!

You are probably correct, I did not look it up. But I like to set the dive bombers at 14,000 feet while the torpedo bombers go in at 1,000 feet. If they get coordinated, it really messes up their CAP.

This is the current situation in SEAF in colour...

As mentioned above, the excrement well and truly hitteth the fanneth today�

Warning bells sound with the prelude to the battle being the sub attack on USS Lexington. On hearing this news, VADM Nagumo instantly got a sinking feeling in his stomach. By the time the signal from the sub was decoded and handed to him it was too late to cancel the strike on Ndeni�

The IJN were then given a lesson in carrier warfare by the USN.
KB was effectively halfway through launching the escorted strike on Ndeni, aimed at trying to sink 3x USN subs that were spotted in port and destroy more planes on the ground.
The reason the KB was caught in this position was that it was trying to move away from an expected USN submarine swarm on its last known position.
Intelligence Staff failed to remind the Commander that the presence of the rest of the allied Pacific Fleet was unknown and what played out was the most dangerous but feasible enemy action. There had been obvious intelligence from previous months that the allies had a tendency to form large task forces in SOPAC.
The escort fighters from Zuikaku and Shokaku were both set to escort strikes on Ndeni, so didn�t fly with any strikes on shipping�
The result was that the USN Wildcats had a turkey shoot against a large Val strike on the USN carriers that was pressed home with suicidal bravery for no gain.
A massive and coordinated strike then arrived over the KB, with all ships taking evasive action, expending nearly all of their AA ammunition in a desperate battle. The only positive was that not a single A6M5 was lost and they proved themselves in combat. The only problem was that there weren�t enough of them.
So many what ifs here that I won�t waste time on, but despite losing about 100 aircraft the remaining 3x IJN CVs still have a reasonable amount of combat power between them, especially when set now with a focus on defensive CAP. The allies also lost about 100 aircraft with late arriving Dauntless packages shredded by the dwindling CAP.
Akagi is doomed but will be left afloat as a diversionary target rather than scuttled.
Kaga needs to find a thunderstorm to hide in to have any chance of escaping. As there is still a chance to save her she has been left with 1x damaged DD as escort.
Neither Akagi or Kaga will have any fighter cover tomorrow. All pilots have been transferred off by life boat and the focus for all remaining Zeros is to save the remaining 3x IJN fleet carriers from destruction.

An afternoon counter strike found the USN SCTF with minimal CAP, but because the Vals were still set to 20k� to avoid flak at Ndeni, they missed a chance to land a decisive counter blow. Another what if that we won�t know the impact of until the next turn is run. All remaining Vals are now set at 14k' without secondary targets.

The most aggressive move now from the USN would be to surge forward and follow up with the large surface combat and all remaining aircraft that it can muster for a knockout strike. The IJN is setting up to try and counter that scenario. If this scenario doesn�t play out, then Kaga and the remaining IJN forces may be able to extract themselves. If the allies do charge forward there will be fireworks again, with the aim of the IJN to sink as many allied ships as possible.

USS Lexington is reported sunk from an ammo storage explosion from the sub torpedo hit but I doubt that is true. From the presence of VF-3 in the battle, it doesn�t look like she is even out of the fight.

VADM Nagumo has taken direct command of all available CA, CL and DD in the hex, to provide some ships with AA ammunition in the KB task force.
RADMs Tanaka, Daigo and Takeda will bring their cruiser task forces forward from Ontong Java to RV with KB and provide more close surface force protection. This is to counter the large and powerful USN CA/CL/DD task force which I expect to charge forward. They are all set to 0 reaction and need to all meet in the same hex or they won�t have fighter cover�
RADM Fujita is moving the CVE task force forward to RV with the Nagumo task force as it withdraws to provide another 70ish Zeros on local CAP.

The main remnants of the Akagi and Kaga fighter units have flown their A6M5s to Hiryu and Zuikaku respectively, filling the space made available from the �massacre of the Vals�.

The carrier based Vals and Kates will have to strike again tomorrow without fighter escort, so lucky die rolls are needed for them to target SCTF instead of the enemy carriers.
All available land based fighters in range (about 60 from Tulagi) will provide LRCAP. That should put about 280 IJN fighters over the KB task force.
Betties and Nells in range have been set to search and naval strike at 5k�, with lucky die rolls also needed for them to target enemy Cruisers rather than the Carriers.
All available submarines are ordered to patrol likely USN withdrawal routes.

The aim for the next 24-48 hours is for the IJN to survive this battle with the loss of �only� Akagi and Kaga.
If the USS Saratoga can be finished off by subs, and a few more allied Cruisers sunk if they charge forward, then it won�t be a complete disaster.

If nothing else, it should be entertaining for the next few turns!

Fires rage on Akagi through the night as damage control parties are overwhelmed.
Flooding is also out of control. As the first hints of dawn appear on the horizon the skipper gives the order to abandon ship.
The exhausted crew watch on in silence as the fires are finally extinguished when Akagi sinks beneath the waves, taking the Captain with her...

Meanwhile on Kaga, damage control parties get no rest as they work through the day, waiting for the knock out blow from the skies that doesn�t arrive.
As the sun sets, fires are still burning but they are almost out. Flooding is under control and the stokers are generating enough horsepower to make 13 knots. Kaga lags the KB by just one hex and seems to have been missed by allied search aircraft.
Land based Zeros from Tulagi on LRCAP are approaching exhaustion, but they need to fly again tomorrow. They will be joined by more Zeros from Shortlands to provide LRCAP over Kaga tomorrow. Hopes remain to save Kaga, but the biggest risk now may be the stubborn fires (14 points).

The allied Carriers are spotted 7 hexes SE of Kaga, 8 from KB. Allied Cruisers have largely disappeared, but there was one sub contact just west of Ndeni. The allies didn�t charge forward yesterday so they may not tomorrow either. SEAF Int Staff warn of a possible allied bombardment of Tulagi, so preparations will be made for that.

Ouch. So, you now understand the word "brittle" as it applies to IJN CV's. Sad to say, but my experience in that they are good for one battle against the allied CV's. You can count on one for sure. More than one is strictly related to a lot of luck. The second is that allied DB's are just, or more, deadly than the TB's. 1000lb bombs start fires. I actually think that the IJ is better against flooding than fires. I dread fires of any size on any IJ ship.

If you only lost the Akagi, you still have a decent force. I agree with you, I doubt that the allies have lost any CV so far in this battle. It looks like they are all still operational.

The thousand pounders will also penetrate into the ship and cause damage. In actually, some of the worst damaged came from near misses as that caused flooding damage.

Orders for 7 Sep, let's see if this goes to plan tomorrow...

Enemy Carriers and what looks to be a 4xDD ASW task force moved forward about 5-6 hexes. The Int Staff are uncertain whether the USN will charge forward from this position or just claim the victory, lock in the points and withdraw to replenish.
Enemy Cruisers are unaccounted for, but there is a good chance that they are near the red circle where the battle was fought yesterday, hunting for stragglers under LRCAP from the USN Carriers.
Many enemy submarines are still spotted with others expected to be moving in.

Kaga and Samidare are lucky to move 5 hexes last turn as I was only expecting them to move 4. They were also lucky to avoid an air strike as they are still only 7 hexes from the USN Carriers.
Kaga is not showing any detection.
KB is showing detection of 2, probably because it launched two unescorted Kate strikes that were cut down merciless by Wildcats.
The ASW task force of 4xDD is also spotted, but the IJN surface combat task forces are not spotted.
KB is ordered to zig directly west to get closer to land based LRCAP and should move 6 hexes.
Kaga is ordered NW but will probably only move 4 hexes. LRCAP Zeros will fly from Shortlands to provide some morale boosting air cover for the crew as they keep firefighting.

23, 25 and 26 Air Flotillas will all contribute with long range search, ASW patrols and LRCAP fighter cover.

Breaking news. No sign of the USN carriers or cruisers in SOPAC!

I just need to wait about 10mins for the Chungking artillery bombardment to process before I can check whether Kaga�s fires are out.

Bad news. Fires increased from 14 to 19... Now only able to move 1 hex per phase Shortlands is too far away at 9.
Kaga will make a stop at the Ontong Java Fishing Club and ask if it can borrow a few hoses.
Naval support squads from HQ 8th Fleet will be flown in from Rabaul to try and help.

Fires are out on Kaga!
Now I just need to get her back to Rabaul without a submarine finding her on the way and reduce some of the 60+ system damage...

Even if I can get her back to Japan for major repairs, she might not be ready to fight again until 1944!

Some idiot just managed to issue 12 new Vals and 12 new Kates to an inoperable flight deck...

I was so shocked by what I was seeing that I couldn�t get a screen shot in time. This event gave a disproportionately large boost to morale in the entire SEAF area. The mother ship is moving back to collect the midget so it can rearm and then get itself sunk.

Device Nakajima Ha-45 advances R&D to 1/43 and advancing 4% per day.
It might enter production very late Oct, but if not then it will start in Nov. There are currently 3x30 and 1x40 factories on this engine. They will all be expanded to size 120 once they start production. The plan is for the Aichi engine factory to eventually change to the Nak 45 once the Aichi engines are no longer needed. Myrt, Grace, George, Frank and Peggy all use this engine, and I plan to build lots of George and Frank.
Aircraft Ki-44-IIc Tojo advances R&D to 7/43 and advancing about 10% per day with close to full engine bonus.
Aircraft A6M5c Zero advances R&D to 4/44, advancing about 12% per day with close to full engine bonus.

Kaga Watch, season 1 episode 4ish
She moved 5 hexes when I was expecting two.
Cruise speed is only 6knots so I don�t know what�s going on.
I�m not complaining though, as she�s now only 8 hexes from Rabaul so st this rate only two days more to avoid subs.
I have lots of aircraft on search and ASW over her approach path to Rabaul and look to have a clear run vs subs now.
System damage increased by 2 to 63. No change to flood or engine damage.
There are 2x ASW task forces moving with Kaga plus 3CL 5DD in her task force as close protection.
3x SC/DMS ASW divs are also patrol the path yet to be travelled.
The Combined Fleet Battle Force is now all at Rabaul. I might detach multiple DD ASW task forces from Battle Force just to help shepherd Kaga into harbour at Rabaul.
Kaga is currently 15 hexes from Ndeni which is still showing 100% airfield damage. The Int Staff believe that Ndeni is out of supply.
That means that Rabaul should be safe from B17s.

Kaga makes it safely to Rabaul and offloads aircraft. 108 days in pierside mode to get rid of all but 14 major flood and 10 major engine damage.

The IJA 12th and 17th Divs were trashed this time, although they only had about 1xBn of infantry destroyed each. They both suffered nearly 100% infantry squad disablements that will take about a month to recover. The rest of the disablements were shared around, with similar casualties and very high disruption/fatigue to the last attack. The next attack is pencilled in for the 21st of September.

Hiryu-2 at CV Hiryu takes D3A1 Val replacements � VADM Nagumo�s CVTF1 arrives at Manus to replenish, draining the place of fuel. CV Kaga arrives safely at Rabaul and starts pierside repairs for at least the rest of Sept. HQ 8th Fleet will move forward from Truk to increase the number of naval support squads.

Multiple BB, CA and CL task forces remain at Rabaul to protect against an allied cruiser bombardment raid and also to be available to react quickly if the allies make a move to invade the Guadalcanal area.

The damaged DD Samidare will move to Manus from Rabual and then all other damaged ships, including CV Zuikaku, will move to Kure for repairs in one task force. All CS will also be returned to Japan to prepare for conversion to CVL, to try and avoid losing one or more of them to submarine attacks.

3x BB Kongos need repairs, leaving only BB Haruna as close escort to CVs Hiryu and Shokaku. This ad hoc carrier division will remain in SEAF to keep feeding allied signals intelligence reports of IJN carriers remaining in the area, but they will stay in the Manus area so that they are under land based air cover.

Back at Yokosuka, CV Soryu will finish repairs tomorrow. Options for CV Soryu are:
1. join RADM Yamaguchi�s CVTF2 (Junyo, Hiyo and CVLs Ryujo, Shoho, Zuiho) for a raid of the Bay of Bengal, or
2. move south to rejoin CVTF1.

I am leaning towards option 1 to go hunting for RN BBs, as CV Soryu would provide a bit more striking power if the RN CVs show up. CVTF2 will move to SEAF after the Bay of Bengal raid, ideally after sinking some major RN warships. Compared to the well armoured RN CVs, the ships in CVTF2 are made of balsa wood�

Yep, I�m on it.
HQ SEAF is already at Rabaul but HQ 8th Fleet will join it.
There are only 2x ARs in the empire right now but one is nearby, so I will send 4x DDs to escort it.
Way too valuable a ship to use PBs or SCs as escort!

The other AR is in SWAF where it might be needed if the next Bay or Bengal raid doesn�t go well...

I have 6-7 more AR in the process of converting but they are still many months from being ready.
