Can not seem to get any above Arid, most are Dry or Desert.

Is this normal.

Tried Unclassified, many times and the others.
Got the most water on a Siwa result.

If you ask me it's an issue with just that line of text. I've had planets which had loads of rainfall and they still said 'arid'. Just look at the rainfall numbers I guess.

Most of mine are under 30mm.

With 1 in 20 hitting over 100mm.

Here in ABQ where I live High Desert our Avg is about 200mm.

Yeah me too, and actually no problems with water at all.

The description text is bugged, it says things like dry even when I get a world with like 600mm. Which, considering that Earth's average rainfall is about 1000mm, is pretty good. So just look at mm.

As for how to increase that, the planet generation is actually pretty realistic, so there are a lot of factors that go into it. For example, planet spin speed influences wind speed, which is important for a robust water cycle. You also don't want the planet to be too cold, because then all the water will be locked up in the ice caps. You want high gravity (the closer to 1g the better) so you can have a thick atmosphere. You don't want all the lighter elements leaking away into space like Mars. For the same reason you also don't want to be really close to your sun, or the solar wind will blast away your atmosphere. I think different star types are better or worse for that. I think for some (like red dwarfs?), in order to be close enough to have Earthlike temperatures you'll also be so close that you get blasted. But i'd have to look that up to be sure. I know some stars are also highly variable, so your planet might have had it's atmosphere chipped away by flares periodically.

Keep in mind that in order to roll a higher gravity world, you need to increase the map size. At the planet type screen there are options for small-medium, medium-large, etc. Small worlds rarely go above like 0.5g, which isn't really enough.

You basically want something as close to Earth as you can get, in terms of all.

I found earth like atmosphere, between .7g and maybe 1 G or a little over, not to large a tilt earth has 23 I think, and at least 10 percent mountains and oceans you get over 1000 mm of rain and then if you roll enough you get billions pre war pop.

Yes, check the 'rain fall'...plenty on arid planets.

Some questions:
1. Wich class of planet did you generate? Siwa?

2. If you say "generated 100 Planets", do you mean "from scratch" or "rerolling Biosphere 100 times"?

3. Do you use small maps?
Currently small map size = small planet.
Wich means low gravity. Wich means thin Atmosphere. Weak seasons. And a lot of other things that can hinder the water-cycle. And the evolution of life.

It does appear, to me, that the star type plays a factor in the generation of a planet.
This is a consistent theme in other games that offer stars & the type of habitability that exists on those planets within that star's system.

I have gotten it above 2000mm on Medusa worlds and it will still say it is dry. Think it is slightly misleading, though considering surface water never goes much above 10% I guess it makes sense that planets would always be considered drier than earth.

It's all part of the game, there being little water. Probably because of the war.

1: All Types.
Most Unclassified.
Mostly Large
The SWIA once gave me over 1000mm the rest hardly go over 30mm.

2:Reroll 4 to 5 times, then grab another Planet and retry.

3: Mostly Large some Medium.

Even reinstalled just to see.

As for the War answer, this is way before that in the generation step.

Are others getting this low rain under 30mm or is it just me.

I believe the size also affects this. When I started to larger planets they tended to be more life like. Also use a class that says it has water and it 99 perecent of the time will.
Is worth saying though that playing on a horrid unbreathable hell can be fun with its own challenges.
I assume if navies are added we will get more earth like planets and water worlds.

I never had this problem. Getting over 200mm was easy, but then again I only rolled Medusa world's because I mistakenly thought that was the most earthlike. (it often is, but the air will never be breathable even with a perfectly earthlike atmosphere, because of the native spores and such)

But I know other people have gotten non-medusa world's with billions of people, which requires good rainfall.

Are you sure you are only proceeding once you get an earth-like planet at the Stellar phase? Keep in mind too that the average temperature of Earth is 15c. Going even 10c lower means a massive amount of water will be locked up in ice across most of the planet, which means no rain.

My experience with Unclassified Planets was similar to yours, so I stopped using them and now use Siwas--problem solved.

I think Vic just hasn't written the flavour text for high rainfall planets.

The Beta patch has gotten me many in the 300mm to 500mm range.
This leads to 8 to 12% Oceans as well.

Still deserts but much better than 30mm.

No Jungle planets yet for me.

Again: Wich planet class?
I could roll 100 moons and complain about there "never being fertile soil".
And that you will get a lot of dry land on a Limos is kinda the reason that class exists.

Getting enough rain for fertile, non-dry soil requires both:
a) A lot of surface water (Oceans and Lakes. Note that lakes are not accounted for)
b) a good spread of that surfrace water, so the rain reaches as many places as possible.
Even on a Siwa Class, ther can be deserts. That is kinda how it is on earth as well.

Keep your eye on the AU distance too, earth has an AU distance of 1. If you get too close to the sun you'll get dry arid worlds too far away you'll get colder icier worlds.

Mostly you can just look at the temperature for that.

But again, no specific of the planet class...
