Once more!

This is going to be a different game:

Scenario 2 (with AndyMac's latest patch) Read that to mean more light cruisers and destroyers (for Japan), lots more bases, and other joy.

2 Day turns

Combat animations off
Combat summary off

HR: Scout1 is thinking about them

PDU On; Realistic R&D On; Advanced Weather On; Reinforcements Highly Variable (forget the proper term).

And finally, Scout1 will be allowed full access to the AAR to give Japanese point of view. This will hopefully give lots of color to the game to the players and readers and active participants.

I can't believe I am going to play the Allies. What will I do? Fighters that can't dance. Swimming in supplies and fuel. Plentiful reinforcements. Fletchers, and Jugs, and Beasts! How can I adapt?

Strap in, true believers, this is going to be a wild ride!

I did not know about any new patch, but you can go to a little town in Norway if you want to. It freezes over every winter:

Welcome to Hell

Welcome to Hell, the Norwegian Town that Freezes Over every Winter

But I look forward to your AAR.

I should warn you - I have heard a rumours that IJ players have been plotting how to land at US cities and kill the aircraft industries there ... something you would never think of doing!

Looking forward to it, partly because of your famous well-annotated maps and mostly because of your skill and ingenuity. Bon Voyage!

He would never think of that! Invading the West Coast?

Of course, if you want a link to the threads . . .

The Government of the Empire of Japan has always sought a peaceful solution in these times of turmoil. Accordingly we have concluded peaceful relations with the German and Italian governments and now seek the same with the American & English governments, though we've found them to be more much more belligerent...... Our hope is a peaceful solution where the Empire can lead the free Asian people to a new prosperity casting aside the shackles of past Wesrtern Imperialism ....

Did you not also conclude peaceful relations with the French government and are attempting to have peaceful a relationship with the Siamese government?

The French have already concluded their peace ... so not needed .... The Empire intends to raise up the Asian people to their full potential under the guided hand of the Japanese Empire

House Rules:

The biggy, thanks to Obvert for this one:

Only 50 planes max on night bombing runs of ports or runways per turn. No restriction on other night bombing missions.

Political Points for troops to cross borders except Thai allowed into Burma for free, unless already free.

Turn one Allies can only move already existing task forces turn one. No creating new task forces day 1 for Allies. No on purpose American CV hunting on turn 1. Mersing tactic ok since Allies can give orders to Task Force Z.

Not discussed, but things Allies won't do: I won't engage in single ship or small PT boat spam. I won't use 4E on skip bombing on naval ships. I won't use only supply or very few troops landed amphibiously to improve the performance of shore bombardments.

We both reserve the right to call out gamey tactics and discuss them immediately. Since this is a game, our definition of gamey behavior might vary widely but frank and open discourse is the road to a happy game.

Scout1 wants to heckle. Both in the AAR and in the emails. Emails will remain private, unless they are too funny not to share. (with prior approval of course).

Can't think of any others, feel free to chime in if you can think of something we should add.

I have to put this here, on page 1, cause I never can remember them.

AndyMac, change log such as it is for Scen 1 and 2. Why haven't more people downloaded them?

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4692890
------
OK been a while since I messed about

Attached to this thread are revised and updated Scen 1 and 2.

Main changes.
Bases - Lots of new bases in NZ/Aus/China/Burma/Malaya some are to make the AI perform better some are purely because it offended me to have railway lines on the map that couldn't be used bases are in the 1600 - 1720 range if you want to look at them - some of the names may be slightly out especially in China.

Resources etc - A little more on map LI for both sides to better reflect food production reduced off map supply and 'magic supply to compensate in most cases. (China/Burma/SEA/Russia mostly)

A few minor aircraft tweaks - eg Beaufighters now attack bombers becdause the code handles them better as attack bombers than FB's same with Mosquitoes - if you don't like change back

More allied aircraft set to CW nationality especially FAA types as FAA sqns are a mix of nationalities and this allows them all to use the aircraft.

Small tweaks to OOB in China (splitting units) to cope with new bases

Post 6/45 increases in US and CW device replacements to reflect re prioritisation of replacement to the hot war - basically just in case the game is still going until mid 46

An updated AI file please delete all existing aei01-00x.dat and aei01-00x.dat files if you want to keep them copy to a subfiolder - at present the new AI file has NO variants and therefore will not overwrite the existing files so you need to delete them or you wont be using the latest files.

Scen 2 only on top of existing Scen 2 increases - added about 30 additional ships to the IJN to make them a little stronger in mid war period 6/42 - 12/43 specifically 2 extra CA's and few tankers, Ak's, DD's and a couple of my surprise AMC's again feel free to delete they are at the end of the file - they give both the AI and an IJN player a couple of extra toys to play with when the Fletchers start rolling in but not enough to unbalance scen.

Lots of tweaks and corrections that have been sent in as well over the last couple of years - I am sure I have missed a few so feel free to let me know of any errors in the thread below.

Edit v2
Added Cav Designation to 1st Chinese Cav Corps
Adjusted MG device in 7811 Chinese corps
Changed Device in Mobile Eenhid
Amended Wiraway Bomb Load
Removed Port from Reid River
Moved starting Location 1st motor Bde (aus) to Brisbane
Updated Dutch and Soviet Subs to match class files
Wright now arrives day 3 at PH
Moved Alchiba/Aries and Mauna Loa to later arrival dates

v3 a few HQ changes in 45 per Kulls spot on Air groups and a few Chinese HQ changes
Enjoy

v4 fixed Boomerang bomb load and tried again with Kulls updates !!!

v5 Corrected a couple of issues with Chinese supply caps on bases, amended 24th Chinese Base Force, Corrected 2 ships from list above moved from PH to Anchorage, reverted Beaufighters and Mosquitos back to FB's undoing change above as on balance not an air guy so trusting original team more than my testing, added 5 new Gulf bases in Australia, removed Fairey Battle except as Invasion reinforcements

God bless you AndyMac!

Take a gander at a portion of China! How all these new bases will impact game play in a pbem is anyone's guess. I am not up to speed on all the changes, as I haven't looked at Japan's OOB, but egads do I know about those blasted Qship creations. Plus extra destroyers and cruisers!

Let us all hope that last minute peace talks bear fruit...

PS: I have decided I don't particularly like this map art. I mean it is a work of art, but it is too difficult to distinguish jungle and jungle ridge. I will change shortly to something else.

General DeWitt is in charge, nothing to fear, but fear itself. (PS: Hopefully he isn't in charge for long).

your famous well-annotated maps

I didn't know they were famous! Thanks.

Anyhow, this is going to present a challenge, but I think the censors will let lots of maps in!

I am looking forward to sharing with Japan details about battles, like what tanks are presents etc to add flavor to the game.

We can't see them until the start of business on Monday. Tough luck. Nothing important ever happens on a Sunday.

New map. More AndyMac level of godhood here.

I have to tweak my settings a bit to see those damn dot bases, but I like this Chemkid map better than my previous one.

Using windows magnifier at 200% (Window key and the Plus key 200%), lest you think I was making up a name like Thanbyuzayat.

PS: I am amazed I typed it correctly twice! Three Pagoda Pass sounds better, perhaps we can get Andy to change it?

From my experience sync bug happens during replay but when i compared results with my opponents , in game combat report seemed to be unaffected and always telling the truth. Also good luck looking forward to your AAR!

The Empire wants it. It can be changed if I recall, by the Japanese player to be on or off.

I normally play against the AI with it off. It does speed up running the replay, but at a cost of some information and visual goodies.

As the Allies I have the option of not watching the replay. You give up quite a lot of intel doing that, but at certain phases of the game is probably acceptable or even encouraged.

I got tracker up and running, along with combat reporter and intelmonkey. Not sure what all I will be using.

Also, not sure how long I will let Scout1 wander in to the AAR. The idea of a dual AAR is intriguing, but sure seems it would be difficult to manage. A second Allied or Japanese only AAR discussing tactics/strategy and secret stuff is far too burdensome for all involved.

For me personally, getting into tactics, toes, is the attraction of the AAR. I love learning new things (daily with this game), and experimenting.

I haven't looked at all the new toys Japan gets thanks to Andy other than his short notes. I want to be surprised.

I am currently overlooking the Allied OOB and units available, thinking about strategy and some tactics.

Hardly ever use tracker as allies, only to help with LCU completed moves, which is pretty small help.
Intel Monkey is huge help as allies to organize intel. I feel it is almost a cheat it is so much a help. I use it when testing for Andy Mac and I am playing allies, but I would never use it against the AI in a game, makes everything TOO easy.
Reporter: can't imagine NOT using it in every game. organizes all the action so you can see each area easily ... if it had the replay imbeded, it would be the ULTIMATE!

I don't really have much experience using it. Almost 0. Haven't been the Allies in a long long time and only against the original ironman.

Maybe I won't use it if it is that powerful.

I thought tracker would be of some use digging into the TOE of Allied forces, plus of course managing my plane builds!

This is going to be 2 day game turn....

What I recall is that on ground combats if the attacker gets a 2-1 or greater the attack settings remain the same for the 2nd day of combat which can potentially be pretty catastrophic.

Routing task forces, offensive missions, reaction ranges, and aggressive commanders will have be monitored closely.

Overall, I think it slows down the pace of the game.

I use (Allied) tracker for the alerts and for ship upgrades/ conversions as it can get very confusing without it

Then to download CSV files from time to time; very helpful to figure out reinforcements and important LCUs that somehow got lost in some small USA base

I was never able to download intel monkey properly, and first time I am hearing about reporter, which I will check

Combat Reporter a wonderful tool

Combat Report is a kick ass tool ...

Also, I believe I may have a solution relative to this AAR and my access .... Perfectly happy to provide you Japanese Press Releases if you would be so kind as to post on this site ...

This way I won't access your AAR and ponder your strategies .....
