A task force of about 10 allied ships was spotted at Terapo including CL, DD, xAK so I set up a big operation to try and sink some. With about 25 allied fighters spotted at the base, the ops plan included sweeps by Zeroes from bases in northern New Guinea, then about 100 escorted Betty/Nell carrying torpedoes from Rabaul and some low flying escorted Kates carrying bombs from Manus Island. It didn’t go exactly to plan as the allied task force moved south, but it was still a partial success that should make the allies adjust some more fighters to provide local CAP and take them away from escorting large bombing raids. This operation helped three more IJN fighter pilots reach 81 experience so they "graduated" to the reserve pool and will be posted to a CV fighter unit. AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Nov 12, 42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub vs Sub: SS Growler attacking SS I-23 at 112,109 - near Truk SS I-23 Allied Ships SS Growler SS Growler launches 2 torpedoes at 2,000 yards -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Truk at 112,107 PB Daiya Maru Allied Ships SS Pickerel SS Pickerel launches 2 torpedoes at PB Daiya Maru -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amphibious Assault at Salamaua (98,127) – Salamaua had auto-flipped to the allies which is a bit rude, as I have a lot more force next door at Lae than they have at the more distant Terapo. Maybe the 2x Divisions they have betweeen Port Moresby and the Kokoda hex are sending recon patrols that far north. This is a SNLF Coy that should flip the base back tomorrow without having to attack. TF 84 troops unloading over beach at Salamaua, 98,127 Japanese ground losses: 65 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Chiba at 115,62 SC CHa-4 SC CHa-6 Allied Ships SS Gunnel SS Gunnel launches 2 torpedoes at SC CHa-4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Tandjoengpinang at 51,86 SC CHa-39 SC CHa-37 Allied Ships SS Runner Captain of SS Runner elects not to launch torpedoes at this target -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Terapo , at 96,127 Weather in hex: Thunderstorms – not a great start to the day with bad weather Raid detected at 43 NM, estimated altitude 20,000 feet. I was expecting a lot more allied fighters on CAP as recon are currently reporting the following allied aircraft at PM: 73 fighters, 97 bombers and 74 auxiliaries. A large IJN bombing raid on the airfield is ordered for tonight to try and destroy some of these aircraft on the ground. A6M5 Zero x 48 G3M3 Nell x 16 G4M1 Betty x 27 Japanese aircraft losses A6M5 Zero: 1 destroyed G3M3 Nell: 3 damaged G4M1 Betty: 3 damaged Allied aircraft Kittyhawk IA x 7 Kittyhawk IA: 1 destroyed Allied Ships – unfortunately not the 10 ship CL/DD/xAP task force that is now spotted 4 hexes SW of PM moving back to Australia, but this should be all 4x APD sunk with a chunk of a support unit destroyed with them. Fingers crossed it was something important like an Air HQ.
