By the way, Dan has not logged on in over 4 weeks that I know of.

Dan took a breather from the forum, well, he kind of got cancelled on that cancerous covid thread where thinking for yourself is highly discouraged. Enough said...I don't want that stuff coming into an AAR.

Impossible! Orwellian Truth is the one true truth. I haven't looked at the supposed 'no politics' version and I don't plan to.

I hope you get the turn Friday. Even if it's later than that, I doubt he would just string you along. That would be a lot of effort just to punk you. It would be nice if you received a clearer explanation of the timeline, but whatever.

That is quite the evocative name.

Yup and yup.

I 100% agree with thoughts of Alamander and Witpqs on Scout. He does seem sincere in his threads and looking to putting in effort. I hope you get that turn by Friday. Anyways, I'll be seeing myself out till hopefully the actual game (or at least pre-turn) starts.

I know he feels bad for taking so long, but he wants to do well. Who knows what will happen! I hope he tears the Allies up!

On the Allied side, I do so want to use the Thundering Herd as a giant worm on a hook leading some big IJN warships into a trap. It is a long shot, but it would be glorious.

I got my electricity back!

About 24 hours running on genny power. I have three sump pumps and the house would have literally floated away without backup power.

6 inches of rain...all roads but one closed leading away from the house. Weather makes for fun & scary times.

Teaser:

I have discovered what I think is a novel aspect of the game mechanics, it is not gamey, but an unexpected relationship...to a very important aspect of the game.

I have been told, by people that I trust, that my n is very low (and, it is) and I am conflating things, false connections, but I think not. In the first week of the game I will reveal all, both here in game, and then on the forum at large in the War Room, which sadly needs new threads about tactics.

Stay tuned true believers! You are of course free to guess what it might be -- and it is not sushi.

I actually thought of that, and alluded to it in a previous post I believe.

Anyhow, protecting the strategic resources in America and in Oz are pretty high on the to do list. In this beefed up game for Japan, I don't want to gift Japan with 5000 strategic vp.

I have the first turn and a message from the Empire...

loaded the preturn, no error messages, everything looks good to go.

Will publish the Empire's message tomorrow. I think it is game on.

Nice! Luckily, for speeding things up, the Allied 1st turn can take 5 minutes depending on your preference and house rules for TF creation.

Dec 7, 1941

It is a dark and stormy day, scratched this out serenaded by the hum of generators with hurricane lamp and candles, with flash flooding expected, thunder rumbles in the distance and rain spits down from the darkish skies. In a word, foreboding.

Energy is diverted briefly from the ever important sump pumps to provide this update, although the Captain is insisting the power be diverted to the truly important...the industrial strength hair dryers and bathroom lights. Priorities, man!

The Americans, Dutch and British are handled with ease. Task Force Z is told to hold the coastline, make her base Batavia from now and on, and to be timid. For Gods sake, we don't want to start a war accidentally here...

Boise and Houston are sent to small ports and told to keep a low profile, as is Marblehead group. US Minelayers south of Pearl are diverted to Canton for some odd reason, we are guessing fouled orders...but the rest is untouched.

Waiting for the hammer to fall.

The first 9 pp goes to the operation against Ichang. These troops have 30+ fatigue, and might have a short nap before assuming offensive operations...the troops in the area are some of China's absolute best. But we need recon, Changsha runways are stripped, most going to Chungking and some to Kweilin. Recon flights are ordered. I wonder if the they will reveal anything, I wonder if they will even fly?

Mass exodus out east by the Japanese -- could Sian be safe or will they approach Sian from a a different road? Will still make a long march abandoning Yenan, but perhaps I don't have to spend PP here yet, and the artillery train at Chungking might rest for two days before marching out....

Interesting choice for first PPs!
considering there are a million other places to spend PPs

In my game, I would be surprised if I spent more than those 9pps in China in total for ~a year of play

So I spend a lot of PP in China changing leaders, I guess I broke Jorge's record. Mostly HQ commanders, and some of the more important Corp Commanders.

Two recon flights with bombers, 3 bomber squadrons training recon, and the transports training are the air orders. Everything else stood down.

I am pulling out the Wenchow base force...I need it elsewhere. I would really like to pull out the 100th Corp there, as it is one of China's best, and Wenchow normally gets bypassed...but for now they will have to stay, for a top secret mission perhaps. Another Corp is on the march to Wenchow.

In a lot of places we are moving units to threaten railroads, or to a position that can threaten railroads.

Setting up stockpile cities, and really trying to restrict supply flow across China. Aviation support and support are the only non-stockpiled Chinese devices.

I can't recall, but I think Japan might start with the Tank Divisions in this scenario....it will be super interesting, but of course, the really neat moves start on the 9th of December when this map should be covered in yellow and red exclamation points! (by design)

No tank divisions at start in my version of the scenario. But the 144th Infantry Regiment which is usually in the 55th division is now independent and the division only has two regiments to form it up. The 144th is the regiment slotted for the Guam invasion.

Tokyo Free Press Release (Dec 6, 1941)
After endless rounds of negotiations with the AngloSaxons who have historically taken advantage of the Asian peoples, the Emperor's patience is running thin. Though the Empire of Japan has tried to keep the peace in the Pacific, the warmongering peoples of the West have gone too far ......

As of yesterday, Dec 5, 1941, distress calls have been received from Wake Island, specifically the local Children's Hospital is reporting damage due to both allied naval and air gunfire upon this peaceful community. Accordingly, the Emperor has ordered Imperial forces to investigate these allegations and if necessary apply any and all force necessary to stop these senseless attacks including the limiting of Allied capability to repeat these heinous crimes in the future. It is believed that the gangster "Halsey" is behind these terrible events. Justice will be served ......

I bet you will find countless instances of similar offences, if you "investigate" elsewhere.

I also spent a lot of PPs on changing Chinese leaders. It really is worth it.

Ichang is a critical position as it provides one of the most important links between the regions north and south of the Yangtze. Its possession was instrumental to the success of my China campaign and has proven pivotal to my current China operations as Japan.

I always reinforce Ichang as Japan and absolutely trash the attacking Chinese. Worth it every time.
