Playing as the Allies and still in the initial stages of the game, I'm still finding it next to impossible to send fighter escorts with bombers. It doesn't matter if they are land based or carrier based - bombers just fly alone.

Is there some way to 'force' fighters to escort the poor bombers?

1. Same altitude.

2. Same base or carrier.

3. keep strike packages within coordination limits.

4. See point 1.

Edit - Alfred has also says that the exe does check HQ affiliations more often than we may suspect, so ... same HQ - and be in range of it.

Also, if the fighter base is closer to target than the bombers, apparently that can be of advantage if you must use aircraft from different bases.

Altitude I have not found to be a big problem.

Unless it's a lot different with groups.

The fighters need to have a cruise speed close to that of the bombers, IIRC.

Has the cruise speed one been "proven"?

It's in the Air Mission Coordination guide, at least.

Me neither, as long as the delta is not too large.

and pretty much the most was proven wrong when it was tested and discussed up and down years ago when this "guide" showed up, done by a guy without much experience on the game. No idea why this seems to have become gospel over the years it seems.

You can pick the cruise speed and about 2 out of 3 times engineer an attack with the vaunted sweep ahead phenomena with some more micromanagement. But that is probably a little off topic and more advanced play.

Does Alfred agree about that?

Speaking as the poor mans version of theElf or michaelm75au.

Aircraft speed is a factor in determining whether a sweep goes in ahead, or behind, a bomber only raid. Needless to say there are several other relevant factors taken into account in determining the arrival order of enemy raids.
