Crossing the river was a mistake on my part. The forces I had available were simply not strong enough to attempt to pocket Rostov.

The Tula pocket was very impressive. Did all German armor come from the north? They crossed a major river and penetrated two-deep defenses seemingly with ease.

I was intending to do a strong drive southwards this turn and had done HQB in preparation, as far as I can remember it was a combination left hook/right hook to seal the pocket.

Looking back to turn 15 and 16 you could see in hindsight the potential for a large Tula pocket. When multiple German units were situated east of Moscow on turn 16, I think the Soviet player should have moved all his units around Tula further east to straighten out his defensive line - leaving a large Kursk like bulge in 1941 or 1942 in this game I think usually only results in large pockets being formed by an experienced German player.

I think another major point is stacking three units along a front that is already sketchy. IMHO hard walls in hard terrain with a minimal rear checkerboard, whereas active fronts with infantry and panzer need a minimum three deep line only AFTER which you can consider beefing up the front row. No point in concentrating forces that can be bypassed, or worse, encircled.

I felt at risk in any direction.

If Tula retreated, he may just have gone East. or southeast or north west. just difficult . Losing the units north of Moscow was the doom.

From where i began turn 14 to this. very hard end of summer.

Here was where i found bad surrender issue (IMO)

This unit was supplied. And frankly not very far from supply.

Rout rule needs tweak. and oil change.

OK so here is the very large mp's for German tanks in Mud.

Thus the question raised is will these tanks have lots of fuel at the end of mud If they dont move the whole time.
B/c they should be low while stuck in the mud.
