Can I get these guys into Rangoon? DejaVu.

Maybe the weather gods will cover for you! If he does spot you and lines up his bombers to hit south of Rangoon, I see no reason why you couldn't unload at Ramree Island instead since the TF is Amphibious.

I have two PT boat squadrons set to intercept the Aparri invasion forces, but the leading Q boat squadron is very poorly piloted, while the other PT squadron is well led. The idea is that the Q boat squadron acts as a diversion, while the PT boat squadron can follow them in and actually do something.

Don't hold your breath!

Looks like NJP will bottle up the Luzon forces and not totally skip them.

The one sub tf is a transport carrying 500 supplies to China, while a second sub transport is a hex or two ahead with 200 supplies.

Fastest and most maneuverable plane out there

Shouldn't they be categorized as night fighter?

Boise and Houston would get to Aparri for a daytime intercept, but then most likely would die to Betties and Nells…

Japan will sure LRCAP Aparri...there are 51 fighters at Takao and planes at the tip of Formosa.

Awfully tempting.

That was what they were used for but I see no radar sets on the plane in the game.

IIRC there is only one squadron of them and no replacements- not worth programming an upgrade since 90% of the time they will be expended in the first six weeks. I think the initial idea was to get a fighter with good range, as opposed to the dismal range of the Hurricane and modest range of the Spitfire. The leading pilot in the Blenheim 1F must be good with the 4 x centerline MGs against unescorted bombers. The good times won't last for him, so he spends his nights at Raffles sipping G&T and retelling his exploits. That is the other reason they are not being used as night fighters...

Anybody have any ideas how to get more recon early as the Allies?

What frames do you like?

In the scenarios with the early versions of the game, Recon squadrons could not be split, but now they can. Certainly remember to do that so you can send one (or two or three) planes from a squadron each to different targets (which I believe is realistic).

As far as non-Recon types, I've never pushed that. I have used PBY types with very modest success, but I haven't done it very much.

Lysanders with a short range but with a camera. They really did a lot of different things.

I split up my Catalinas. In theory, 12 Cats would do much better searching than 4, but I've had no problems with using just 4, and that spreads the search out over many more locations. I also never use search arcs. Again, the theory is that focused search arcs are more productive, but I do just fine without.

I have used Cats for recon. It worked if the pilots have Recon training.

I think Blenheims and Hudsons look ok...

Finished my turn kind of abruptly, forgot quite a few things...but they are traps at least.

It isn't that bad, I think.

If you do the most critical things first, even if you come back and change your mind later then you are insulated from most disasters. If in doubt what to do, do the safest move first. That way, if you blunder you blunder safely.

This turn, I decided to send Boise but not Houston to Aparri......under a cloud of Warhawks LRCAP, I hope...

Turned off Cat attack out of Batan...instead will just search today to aid Boise.

Setting up things for encounters in 1-2 days...

Lots of little little strikes here and there...

Enjoying not having a turn to do! Although, I bet that maniac NJP has a turn in my mailbox after my dinner party this evening. Madman.

Dec 9th, 1941

IJN destroyers are good, even at night with some range they are able to sink two of the patrol boats...but the destroyer squadron should have no more ammo left for further offensive operations.

East of Luzon...Boise breaks off north to head for Aparri, while Houston is looking for SAGs in the Philippine Sea...I guess this is the way the Thundering Herd will come.

Buffalos' are doing good work chewing up enemy naval bombers over Medan...this is one area I neglected to address in the last turn.

Don't worry, Dutch are going to take it on the chin retreating out of Soerabaja.

Boise missed a an intercept at Aparri…

Houston is scouted by Betties...

Things could take an ominous turn...

Oops. Castor wasn't supposed to be there...and the task force didn't move under their CAP at another base. I suspect a lousy supply ship was unloading.
