Crippled Boise location- just narrowly missed the troop laden convoys.

Close but no cigar!

Scoreboard after the first week.

Fairly certain his shipping losses are close to 200 ships in the first 7 turns. The Dutch and Brits have been smashed.

when you get recon reports like these showing 9 CVs and only 55F/136B do you always discount the number of CVs and focus just on the planes. I mean this early in the game it can't be 9 CVs. What about later on?

Yep good comment- I think some wiser heads could add some good feedback here but that is pretty much what I try to concentrate on - the a/c numbers. Clearly in this situation there can only be 2 or possibly 3 CVs here. I was trying to calculate whether Saratoga could have got this far this early but it all got too hard after a couple of beers so I gave up.

In these situations always plan for the worst scenario (planning on 3) and then there can't be too many surprises

His taking some big risks here. If I manage to damage one of these CVs this far from home I will swarm him with every surface combatant I have. KB will stay focused on its objectives.

Snap shot of about 60K Empire troops headed for glory.

Remnants of the Allied surface raiders escaping down below after narrowly missing the convoys. Hopefully we can nail a few more DDs over the next turn.

And another near miss below with Marblehead and friends.

I don't hang around the beaches after the initial assault which is probably saving me a fair bit of grief.

When I have a sense the Allies are targeting an invasion hex I swap the amphibs out with the surface ships to give me a nice welcome.

Still it is costing a me a few days as I have to reroute major convoys to keep them out of harms way. Sooner or later he will get a bit luckier and run into one of them.

Launched about 25 torps at Marblehead from Betties for o hits!

Despite his very hectic social schedule this weekend, Lowpe has reappeared on his AAR and jumped ahead of me again. We can't have that!

I'll just whack up a picture of China- all going okay here, no way he holds Sian. Pretty obvious what I am up to in the North.

In a move of strategic brilliance, Tojo has convinced the Imperial War Council to relocate its head quarters from Tokyo to the coast of Queensland (no easy feat given the state of hostilities between Australia and Japan).

Well provisioned with sake and Japanese beer (and the occasional Corona), Tojo comfortably awaits the Allies next move in between bouts of ocean swimming, fishing etc

How good is life.

So, it looks like it is Oz invasion that's coming next - higher ups are doing on site recon

Been thinking a bit in a change on strategy with the game.

Once Java is overrun in the next couple of days it is too obvious to move directly to India. May need to think a little out of the box to keep Lowpe reeling.

There is one idea........

Good turn for the good guys (????), some additional hard blows delivered to the Dutch and British.

Key Summary.

1. Finally got the Boise
2. Repulse confirmed crippled in Singapore.
3. The route to Sian is looking clear in China.
4. Java getting close to falling.
5. British surface group savaged by air- the Mavis being employed as a torp bomber is lethal (almost too lethal)

Still smashing through the remnants of the Dutch.

Your opening is interesting; I hadn't considered a full-KB commit to Singapore area before. Nearly everyone decides between the standard PH opening, or maybe a Manila strike.

There are pros and cons all around that probably deserve a string by itself, but I can see some of the pros....you neutralized Force Z and facilitated these quick landings on Sumatra and Java. I don't think you can do that without KB down there.

An alternative to that opening may be splitting KB on Turn 1; sending half to Singapore area, and the other half to Manila or PH or other area that allows you to quickly support a move into SW Pac. But not sure on that.

Thanks, good points

In my view, splitting up KB can really dilute the quality of the initial blows where you may end up damaging a number of ships but failing to sink anything of consequence. In this game the risk of having KB concentrated in the DEI has worked well (better than I hoped) as it has allowed me to really work over the Dutch and British very quickly.

I just don't see the value in targeting the old US BBs any more. In the first 12 months of the war they are more of a liability than an asset just waiting to be torped by an I Boat.
