the enemy was landing at Surat and I thought we could disrupt the landings a bit but to my big surprise it seems a good part of the RN heavy units is there and my Graces can do nothing against them... best result of the bomb runs were a destroyed radar set on one of the BB... I didn't expect BBs at all here so I've thought the Graces would be sufficient... we will have two Judy units available too tomorrow, the 800kg bombs should be sufficient if the enemy stays at Surat... pity I attacked today and didn't wait for the Judies... flak fire over the task force was really heavy, we lose over half a dozen bombers...

damn it, alerted by my Grace attack yesterday the enemy left Surat and ends up 10 hexes from Bombay, well outside of normal range of the Judies... the Graces nevertheless go in again, not able to do any damage with their 250kg bombs... flak fire was even worse than yesterday and due to the longer range we suffer horrendous bomber losses this turn... FAIL...

the tanker convoy most likely loses the majority of it's ships... guess Mundy felt totally safe on India's West Coast for a long time as we didn't have bombers there for most of the time... pays off today... with the landing at Surat he increases pressure on my West front in India though...

enemy landing at Surat took place a week ago and the enemy units were marching East while I was moving my three tank divisions to Ahmedabad on the railline to march South... enemy tried to run but this time we manage an attack, forcing the enemy to retreat banging up three Australian bgds... after the disaster around Darwin earlier the Aussies must be super low on squads and equipment so I wonder if the enemy will ever be able to rebuild these units... the tank units will march on Surat to retake the base... guess Mundy expected me to fully focus on the battleground around Calcutta but I'm not giving up the rest of India without putting up a fight...

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Assaulting units:
1st Tank Division
3rd Tank Division
2nd Tank Division

Defending units:
17th Australian Brigade
16th Australian Brigade
18th Australian Brigade

6th Mixed A/T Mtr Regiment

not much happening this turn when I suddenly realize the enemy is breaking out of Diamond Harbour... damn it! I was preparing an Army in Jessore (hex East of Calcutta) to move into the hex East of Diamond Harbour to block any attempt to break out... enemy move is like four or five days too early... will be interesting what he's going to do now...

at the same time the enemy is increasing troop strength in Western India, bringing more and more stuff over from Ceylon... looks like three enemy divisions landed at Mangalore...

All tank units have upgraded to the latest tanks, no idea which ones they are. No expert on Japanese tanks here and they are pretty much all the same when it comes down to their soft value, only the hard value is increasing on the later IJA "medium" tank if you want to call it so. I'd give way more on a short barreled anti inf tank like an early PzIV as you mostly fight enemy infantry.

Its a Shame the Shinano is useless in this scenario

I would love to get a screen shot of the tank unit equipment since I have yet to ever see late war IJA tanks, in Witp AE. (I have a list of information on the late war Japanese tanks and like to see what is used being used in witp:AE and maybe compare to against the Allied tanks).

Hopefully the industry in Bombay gets ruined, maybe idiotically shock attacking the city when the first allied units move in would damage half the industry like the IJA did in Calcutta in 1942 with their tanks.

-------------------------------------

Now to say some stuff and ask more questions,

I noticed you didn't mention this but it's Spring 1944 now, India is in the Monsoon season, basically meaning bad weather everywhere and other sides effects I don't fully know, but I'm 100% sure the Monsoon season exist in the game.

The fact the Grace bombers were able to find the British BB's in the poor weather was lucky/unlucky since it led to their escape in the end but still.

Another odd thing was the complete lack of Carrier support, but then again the tankers were their and you confirmed yourself that you put next to no effort in intercepting shipping off the West Coast of India.

Obviously the breakout from Diamond Harbor must be stop cold, the rivers are our friends, the army shouldn't be getting supplies unless air supplies come in, if that's the case then place leaking CAP over the enemy units to intercept any transport planes, but I think you need a working airfield for that but I could be wrong.

Now this is a R&D question that I'm struggling to post.

-- Point out the R&D plans for the planes.

BIG QUESTION ALERT

IJN

Fighters

The A6M5 Zero will be replaced in mid 44 by the Sam's variant (?)

The arrival of the N1K5-J George will be (?)

The plans for the later variants of the J1N1 Gekko is (?)

Twin Engined Bombers

Plans for the late varients of the G3M Nell is (?) (My money is retired from frontline service)

The arrival of the G4M3 radar guided Betty is (?)
The other varients, including the Ohka carrying variant are (?)

Plans on the newer models of the P1Y Frances is (?)

Reconnaissance Aircraft

The status of the H8K family of float planes is (?) (I don't know if their is a new model to build after the H8K2).

The arrivial of the brand new Aichi E16A Paul is expected in (?) (The FP can dive bomb with a 250kg bomb and is faster than the old Jake but has less range).

IJA

Fighters

What is the plan for the Ki-100 interceptor that flys from Service 1 airfields?

When is the arrival of the Ki-102 Randy's coming?

What is the situation for the last variant models of the Ki-43 Oscars?

What is the situation for the last versions of the Ki-44 Tojo?

When is the arrival period of the Ki-84u Frank variant?

Is the Ki-83 being given a chance? (Also I should ask but is the reconnaissance version Ki-95 available?)

I remember you saying things about the Ki-94...

Attack Bomber

Is the late versions of the dive bomber Lillys getting produced?

Bombers twin engined

The situation with the Ki-49 Helen's, is the pool climbing or declining?

The arrival date of the Ki-67 Peggy + The torpedo type will be by (?)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Are their plans on getting the Wunderwaffe operational such as the jet planes

I forget what role the C5N Myrt is suppose to be so I left it here to ask what plans you have on it.

Well that took some time, I had to be evil and invade this monster of a comment to your AAR CT buuuut you have me the green light to question away, so question away I did.

IJN

Fighters

The A6M5 Zero will be replaced in mid 44 by the Sam's variant (?)

Sam will be available some time around 8/44 then everything on the carrier is going to convert the next months, means at the end of the year it will be most likely Sam vs Corsair instead of Zeke vs Hellcat...

The arrival of the N1K5-J George will be (?)

end of 45, not planning to use it

The plans for the later variants of the J1N1 Gekko is (?)

not going to use it, all IJNAF night fighters will be equipped with the Frances

Twin Engined Bombers

Plans for the late varients of the G3M Nell is (?) (My money is retired from frontline service)

no plans at all, all IJNAF medium bombers will be equipped with the Frances, already in service... only ASW groups will stay on the Nell, no further Nells built though

The arrival of the G4M3 radar guided Betty is (?)

no idea, same as the Nell, we're only going to use Frances

The other varients, including the Ohka carrying variant are (?)

Plans on the newer models of the P1Y Frances is (?)

already in service

Reconnaissance Aircraft

The status of the H8K family of float planes is (?) (I don't know if their is a new model to build after the H8K2).

H8K2 went online in 3/43 already, no further variants

The arrivial of the brand new Aichi E16A Paul is expected in (?) (The FP can dive bomb with a 250kg bomb and is faster than the old Jake but has less range).

won't be built, all FP groups are equipped with Jakes

IJA

Fighters

What is the plan for the Ki-100 interceptor that flys from Service 1 airfields?

Ki-100 can't stand up to Allied aircraft, all the IJAAF is flying Franks

When is the arrival of the Ki-102 Randy's coming?

should be available mid 44

What is the situation for the last variant models of the Ki-43 Oscars?

pure crap, not beinb built

What is the situation for the last versions of the Ki-44 Tojo?

none built

When is the arrival period of the Ki-84u Frank variant?

Frank-r is the latest variant in the mod, going online in two or three months

Is the Ki-83 being given a chance? (Also I should ask but is the reconnaissance version Ki-95 available?)

nope, was going for the KI-94 as I have been building it's engine early on for the Jill already, so there are already 2000+ engines for teh Ki-94 in the pool... the fighter should be available in early 45

I remember you saying things about the Ki-94...

Attack Bomber

Is the late versions of the dive bomber Lillys getting produced?

crap with it's bomb load of 2x100kg, none built

Bombers twin engined

The situation with the Ki-49 Helen's, is the pool climbing or declining?

2000 in the pool, -a and -b models, -b is still produced

The arrival date of the Ki-67 Peggy + The torpedo type will be by (?)

torpedo carrying Peggy started production this month

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Are their plans on getting the Wunderwaffe operational such as the jet planes

well, plans... yeah, there are plans but the problem will be the engines as I have only two remaining R&D engine factories running and those are going for the Ha-43 which will be needed for the Sam and the Shinden so at best I can switch one R&D for the jet engines in mid 44 but that would mean the Karyu won't arrive before late 45, perhaps three or at best four months ahead of the normal schedule... heck, never planned for those late war models, usually I don't even really invest in the Sam but with the decisive win in the carrier engagement in the Marshalls it became well worth it

I forget what role the C5N Myrt is suppose to be so I left it here to ask what plans you have on it.

won't be built, have Irvings for the Navy and Dinah-IIIs for the Army

Well that took some time, I had to be evil and invade this monster of a comment to your AAR CT buuuut you have me the green light to question away, so question away I did.

like I've said, feel free to ask

the enemy has so far only moved his tank units into open terrain but the rest of the Army seems to be following soon... got 500+ medium bombers in the area, the IJAAF Helens are all highly trained in ground bombing but the IJAAF Frances' aren't as they are tasked to attack enemy shipping... going to use them though if there is no sign of Allied shipping and with the enemy moving out of Diamond Harbour it's clear that the relieve naval operation is not going to happen... the only question now is where will the Allied Army try to run to, they won't have any supply within a week or two...

Interesting. I know I've seen my ships gain exp from bombardment ... now there could be a cap on that gain for that activity though. my gains have always been noted earlier in the war when there are plenty of ships in the 30's - 50's and I've been able to drive them up into the 60's.

There is a cap for different classes, I can only talk about IJN but here examples:

AO/AR/AV etc = 25/25
PB/E = 45/45
I am not sure about DD + bigger combat ships I believe 65/65

These are max peacetime exp levels, want more ex=needs combat.
But shooting up defenseless xAKs with your DDs will not yield much if at all exp.I believe none if you are over 65 or 70 already.

Let me quote myself as I noted that IJN AOs get to 50/50 without fighting not 25/25. Im not sure if the values are the same for both sides... but they should be.

Except that IJN ship get their exp halved in ASW combat - this is my memory, it might be also 2/3 or change in later war. All I know in ASW IJN gets a malus.

Edit:
BTW!: Why are most IJ players building the Frances ? I only see 2 stats that justify it: Armor and speed, however bombers with armor will go down almost the same by any Allied planes armed with 20mm or 6x12,7 (or even 8x). Same is true for speed, almost useless vs. 400+ mph fighters....

I know the other 2 are not better, but cheaper as for these engines are build en masse early. Also more range and Betty even gets some defensive 20mm weapons. Sad thing is, all IJ bombers even the better armed ones can not defend themselves, but eg. the B25s on the Allied side can do this to a decree. Not even naming the 4Es

Yes, they get a malus but it's not halved. From memory, it's like 80% in 44

It may go up in 44 to the 80% I guess. So in 44 with some escorts/DDs having SS radar and T2 DCs one should be able to hit Allied subs finally and even sink ém for good. Which in 43 are only rare occurances. Even with many "E" classes, that PBs do not sink anything is logical. Getting "unsunk" messages in the Ops report every 2nd turn for subs

that's been an interesting one... we're using our paras to take empty bases that are still in Allied hands North of the Calcutta area as I don't want the Allied Army around Calcutta being able to retreat into that direction... when we drop on the empty airfield of Gorakhpur we destroy over 50 enemy carrier aircraft... these must have been leftovers from the CVE that were sunk off the coast and the aircraft diverted to this empty base...

nothing happened this turn except a damn lucky Allied movement yet again... I reall can't believe it, when it comes down to movement at the exact perfect day, it's always Mundy who's the lucky one... moved an Army into the swamp hex (going on the road) and while it took the enemy some 10 days or so to reach the hex they enter it exactly the same day as we do (2 out of the 150 units in total), means noone is owning the hex now... the enemy can move just through my units now...

I suspect not fixed as the devs don't think it an error. I agree with them.

when units are "at a base" they are still spread out over 1600mi of area (40x40 right?). so, your AC are going for a specific portion, and a very small one at that, when on AF or Port attack. Most of the units will never be in range to repel the attack. When you attack units, you are centering yourself on them, so naturally, they fire back with far more intensity.

At least, this is how I have always looked at it ...

there are 500k troops in a 40x40mile hex, my bombers attack the divsion on the far West, ALL AA guns in the hex fire on my bombers (they all use supply so they fire) and the intensity is x times higher than when attacking a base in the same hex. Sorry, I don't get your logic because it's not the "unit" that is firing back, it's the whole f*cking AA in the 40x40 mile hex

and you know that all of the AA is firing, how?

Or better to say you know that it is all firing at you with a chance to hit?

I know because I have looked at my flak units ten years ago already when this issue became obvious?

You guys are abstracting so much more stuff into the game that isn't there I always wonder.

Finally the Allies protect their ships with decent CAP...

Can you post a pic of starting base (plus perhaps the units) of the strike ?
Weather, AF size, IJN or IJA escorts, plane fatigue, distance to fly..etc..??

Also is he trying in a desperate move to cut you off over the swampy hex Can he even fly in supply at all (airdrop I mean)- where is the next bigger AF from him?

Well, I would make a line completely around those units that left Diamond Harbor so no supply at all could reach them until they breach the line. But then, there would be another line behind that one by then.

Keep bombing them targets as well, as many different times during the day. Both AM and PM phases, keep the supply burning.

BTW, have you tried torpedo bombers flying at 100 feet? instead of the dive bombers?

sorry, not worth the effort. All was totally fine, just some honky tonky idiocy once more. Level 8 airfield, no fat, all settings ok, 99 morale, even all that stuff like same alt and so on. The fighters didn't take off. Been there gazillion of times just like the forum is full of it.

He can't fly in supply, Ceylon is something like 26 or 27 hexes away and even if he could fly in some supplies, he's got 500,000 men there and we know how it worked out with the Luftwaffe and Stalingrad where they couldn't supply the 6th Army.

There's no supply line for him, all bases are mine, all raillines are cut. Currently he has no chance to draw supply from India's West Coast, that's some 1500 miles away.
