• Troops at Iwo-Jima have recovered from 437 to 456 AV; even with big declines in Disruption they are still badly disrupted. I expect recovery to accelerate once disruption is down.

• South Dakota, Canberra II, Reno, and 9x DD are leaving Pearl Harbor for Iwo-Jima. CVE Barnes made it back to Pearl Harbor and will enter the shipyard.


Pacific

• As amphibious TF's are clearing the primary danger area up around Iwo-Jima we are stripping destroyers out of them to be rearmed at Pagan for deployment back at Iwo-Jima. The OBB are all rearmed and refueled at Pagan but will wait for the troops at Iwo-Jima to call for them.

• There are fighters building up again in the southern Marianas. Pagan airfield is size 3 + 52%, perhaps 4 days from expansion; the engineer force in place is 279E + 70EV and the base is below stacking limit so no penalties.

Task forces break off...


• Disruption among the assault units at Iwo-Jima is high, with only one unit not up in the 30's or 40's. AV is up to 470, better but not an astounding gain. I believe in the coming days Disruption will drop significantly and AV recovery will accelerate. We have just shy of 150,000 supply among the units on Iwo-Jima and we are only 20% over stacked. Just in case this becomes a very protracted battle, we are preparing more than a division's worth of Australian infantry units and three additional armored units; that will take time, of course. We are still shooting down flying boats over Iwo-Jima along with other types, but they appear to be on search missions.

• Iowa, New Jersey, San Francisco, and 5x DD will join the battle fleet just west of Iwo-Jima tomorrow. 9x CVE escorted by 2x DD and 4x DE will arrive at Iwo-Jima tomorrow.

• None of our destroyers which engaged in combat this turn is in jeopardy. Those TF's are returning to Pagan to rearm and drop out ships that need repairs. The ground troops condition is improving and AV is up to 498, but disruption has further to drop.

• 380 defensive mines have been laid at Pagan; the airbase is at 77% expansion, so two more days for expansion to size 4. Two CVE, one with 90% flooding, are 13 hexes from the nearest mysterious convoy sighted NNE of Iwo-Jima. Although the CVE cripples have been unspotted all along, we are dispatching a small SCTF to their location. They are still 6 hexes from Pagan and creeping along. Wasp (in port) is still very slowly pumping out and has flooding of 39(30)%, and so will wait until either pumped out or the CVE's arrive before she sets sail. A few oilers are leaving to head for Iwo-Jima.

• The tactic we used here worked: they bombarded a decoy base. Manokwari is building an airfield but only as fast as the infantry can manage, and they will withdraw before they finish. Noemfoor, 1 hex back, is the search base (no built facilities) with AVD's camouflaged by potted trees on deck and thatch roof huts built over gun turrets. Biak, 2 hexes back, is where the airbase has been/is being built and will be staffed.

• Assault units at Pagan have 551 AV, but the division and an infantry Rgt still have Disruption of 22. I am putting them into reserve for a few turns to see if that helps. The battle fleet just west of Iwo-Jima has begun slowly refueling. Their attack groups are now set to 3 hex range.

• 9 hexes north of Iwo-Jima a TF of 3 ships is spotted moving southwest: PG, PG, SC. 10 hexes north of Iwo-Jima a TF of 4 ships is spotted moving west: BB. Could be anything.

Unfortunately, Alfred says that escorting ships only help with putting out fires. Seems they can pump water in but not out!
Of course, it is still good to have them to fend off subs and air attacks, and rescue the CVE's captain if she sinks.

• We now have 562 AV at Iwo-Jima, and Disruption continues dropping although less quickly than I desire. The OBB's will bombard tonight, which is just in time because port damage is down to 1 and we don't want them thinking they can build even more fortifications. Refueling of the battle fleet continues.

• Only enemy submarines in sight. 5 more Emily shot down today. I sure hope production of those things is low; 142 have been shot down in total so far with several dozen of those being around Iwo-Jima.

The xAK may be a PB to give the SCs a bigger gun to back them up against a surfaced sub.

I've seen a lot of PB types in his ASW TF's. I could swear many have depth charges, so I assumed they were converted types to beef them up.

• A force of up to 400 enemy CVL (spotting error?) with 77F and 30B is one hex east of Sansapor.

• It look like Pagan airfield will max out at size 5 in a week. We now have an AR at Pagan. Wasp has repaired temporary flooding and will head for Pearl Harbor in company with some damaged destroyers; likewise Copahee is heading out to Wake to see if hte the 55,000 ton ARD there can deal with her hull damage.

• 609 AV at Iwo-Jima, an increase of just 5, but the good news is that Disruption is below 10 in all units and Fatigue below 20. I'll give it a minimum of three more days; if AV is rising fast then I'll wait; if AV is merely creeping upward then I'll assault. The old battleships stay put tomorrow; after that they will make for their jump off point near Iwo-Jima (a two day journey) to stand by.

• Today's action is what was expected and what I expect in the near future. I still have no real idea how strong is the main IJN carrier force at this time.

• San Pablo has some damage but flooding is small. Search our of Noemfoor (where else) showqs the enemy carriers west of Peleliu and heading NE, the retiring surface force south of them, and an APD convoy 1 hex NE of Morotai heading SE in the direction of Noemfoor. We are sending our cruisers to Noemfoor to intercept them and a squadron of Corsairs into Biak to cover the cruisers, plus a squadron of Spitfire VIII to Biak for good measure.

• 653 AV at Iwo-Jima today, another nice jump, so I will wait and see if we get to my hoped-for 700 within a few days before assaulting again. Now, as a side effect of the troops needing time to recover, all units are 100% prepared for the target. Fatigue and Disruption both are in the single digits for all units.

• We now have 8 fast battleships with the fleet carriers near Iwo-Jima, so I split some into a second task force, four BB's each.
