Good point.

The troop number by recon have been pretty stable for a good while. They also can't fly in heavy equipment, which means quite a lot in combat, IMO. There are also hundreds of fighters on CAP, not LRCAP, over the island. While a good number of Emily were shot down on search (as told by message in the reports), I believe our CAP shot down a large number bringing in troops. That is not happening now.

Fortifications are so high, 6 as I recall, that I think we need to have a really stout assault force to avoid it being slaughtered.

Another part of that equation is the naval bombardments. Again we will use all the old BB, 8 in total, and half of the fast BB, 4 of them.

One of my goals is a much shorter cycle between assaults. The current recovery is from the landing + shock attack.

For the next few assaults, I am not concerned about enemy casualties as much as I am about keeping our force intact for succeeding assaults, and reducing fortifications.

• 508 AV at Iwo-jima but disruption jumped greatly in three units. Pretty much as expected. I assume at least a week to recover before the next assault but it could be as little as 5 days. The Marines only have 22 enabled squads now, ouch. The 11th(Sep)IR have 0, yeowwww!

I think it's more the ground combat routines than leaders - I recall Andy Mac stating that the ground combat model tends to favour larger units, and that fits with my experience and from what has been said about the routines by the devs.

The 11th got hid hard initially because they were about 82% prepared for the target plus low experience. The USMC Rgt just due to aggressiveness I guess.

That's news to me, what patch was this change made in?


I don't recall, but I do remember (hopefully correctly! ) that MichaelM made it.

It makes a nice difference. There is still the usual AE variability, so any unit can get hit much harder than other units in any given combat, so a small unit can still take it on the chin but that's occasional as opposed to hard and fast.

• The RN cruisers, unspotted, will head back to Manus. The USN cruisers, at Biak and spotted hard, will run like hell for Hollandia, where more fighters are massing. The two AVD disbanded at Biak are not being copied on traffic.

The enemy fleet. Highlighted is the main carrier concentration. Battleships are at Biak. A smaller concentration of carriers is near Sansapor, and there might be invasion forces with them.
