Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays!!!

We had lots of Family, and when you get to our age, the kids return home for the Holidays spending half on one side of the family and the other with their spouse's side. No grandchildren yet, but we did have a 9 month old white German Shepherd for Christmas....forget how much work a puppy is.

But, now the war is back on, sent the turn out this morning...looking to make some more daring intercepts in this bloodbath of a game!

Over here in the (soon to be defunct!) UK it was a very weird, socially distanced Xmas.

Hoping for a much better 2021 in has to be said

On the plus side though, managed to do a lot more turns in my game than normal for this time of year!

Looking for several night time encounters in this area, but we miss....that is until the morning!

4 Inch US shells are deadly to ships with fuel and supplies.

KB is busy, now the IJN seems focused on extending the perimeter. I think there is a fair bit of VP on these islands.

These guys are strafing tanks with machine guns, can't be too effective, but I hoped to gain experience and more importantly raise DL for the Banshees.

The day ends...Japan pulls off a surprising shock attack, shouldn't be since it is the IJA MO, in Burma routing a third of the Burma 1st Div...but most importantly no paratroop landing in India which was the Allies greatest fear.

Unfortunately, Japan has good DL on Pensacola and the surviving destroyer squadron from the morning fight.

Lots happening on this map...

Supplies are being flown in small numbers from India to China...two Commonwealth units air transported in (Indian Mtn Guns and British AT guns), while most of five Chinese Divisions have been air lifted out to India.

I think Japan made a tactical error in not cutting the Lanchow road...oil/fuel will continue to trickle down and eventually reach the remaining Chinese heavy industry.

The 43rd Cavalry is a scant 26 miles from the Chinese border with Burma, and although they lack Stuarts, they will eventually get them and prove quite the counter...the 254th is now moving east to join them, after securing Magwe from paratroop landing ensuring the good order evacuation from Prome. They also lack decent tanks, but they had more than enough for paratroops.

I think I am doing ok here...of course, very little Americans have sought to reinforce the islands between Pearl and Australia.

Over by Perth, a Commonwealth Bde and a heavy AA unit seem likely to make Albany...they have come a long way from India.

Ok, I think that is my day's posts, now to work on the turn...won't really get back into cranking out turns till Sunday though and hopefully might be able to string a couple of 2 turns a day to catch up.

Japan lost 30 VP of land combat troops this turn!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

The P-40Es and later models carry a 500 lb bomb (range permitting) when they do ground attack, even at 100 feet. They strafe and bomb - but it takes a while to get enough skill and experience to score the hits. When they do, they kill tanks.

I did note that your attack uses P-40Bs that do not have bombs, but their strafing can knock off the trucks that support the tanks. Too bad the game lumps them into the AFV category rather than Motorized Support for clarity. The big gain from strafing is Defensive skill.

Maybe that will make him think twice about a Canton Is. invasion ...

I don't think my carriers will give him pause...but it will probably allow my destroyers and cruiser to get away...

I thought seriously about surging two to three more destroyers into Canton island...but ultimately decided against it. I have regrets now not doing it....

I was looking at Fulmars, and noticed they have cameras...so I enlarged the squadron to 12 planes and flew them off the carrier...they will train for a bit and then hopefully provide some good short range recon...kind of like how I use Sonia for Japan.

To compensate I also enlarged the Sea Hurricanes a bit, to 18. Don't have the planes to fully fill them out, but they are training too. Noticed these are Canadian pilots.

I have a Dutch fighter squadron belonging to ABDA at Singers. I can withdraw them for a few months, but they would likely only respawn on Java?

I didn't look, but there are 40 P40s at Singers too, I wonder if I can disband them back to the pools...and get those planes to Australia pretty quickly? The squadrons do get recalled sometime in 42 anyhow.

Bombing Medan today.

My carriers are doglegging to Pearl...a little replenishment is in order before hitting Hokkaido.

Dutch air units, if they are withdrawn to return in 90 days, will come back at Aden if Java is gone and attached to ABDA command, so they will no longer be restricted. Some game versions (like DDB-C) all Dutch units are perm-restricted, so this is a good way of "saving" Dutch units.

The ones most worth saving are the PA units, because Dutch have a deep pool of Catalinas for whatever reason that you can use all game

Fighter units are not very useful because they end at P-40E. The modern bomber models can be used by RAAF in most versions if the Dutch don't use them, so you don't really need Dutch bomber units back.

You would also need to save enough pilots, as you get no replacements (at least in stock, I’m not sure for the mods).

The replacement units come in at Tjilatjap, at least when you repurchase them.

But even at P-40Es, they are still useful in the back areas as anti Glen, Mavis, and Emily units. Or even long ranged anti-Nell units.

The bomber units would still be useful in the Naval Search and ASW modes in the rear areas. Not to mention bombing starving Japanese garrisons. They could also be used to haul some supplies.

This has always been the bane of conserving Dutch units ... lack of pilots. If you intend to use the PA's, then you need to really conserve pilots, don't fly any kami missions with the Dutch or you will have an aircraft pool that you can never use.

Our destroyer squadrons and Pensacola look to escape due west...from the looming KB, but the IJN has other plans, and sends out the Tachekaze, which must be low on ammo, to intercept...

A 2nd engagement immediately follows, and Tachekaze puts two rounds into a destroyer and one round into another all the time avoiding the USN counter fire.

No air attacks on Pensacola...some IJ sweeps, over Singers, and in Oz.

Touch battle here, but we are gaining experience and the heavy guns are coming up.

I saved the pilots...and probably lots of air frames too, but didn't switch most of their HQs to ABDA. Oh well.

Pensacola learned from the previous 2 fights, surprises Myoko and at close range pumps three 8" shells into her in rapid procession.

Looks like an all out push on my raiders here...

oops, this post is out of order, happened during the night after two rounds of combat with the Tachekaze.
